Hypothetical - One Clan in the Homeworlds

So let's say that the bulk of the Clans have moved to the greener pastures of the Inner Sphere and Periphery.  However, they wouldn't want to completely abandon the Homeworlds.  These worlds sheltered and forged them into what they were.  A decision is made to cede all territories there to one Clan who will act as protectors of the Homeworlds.

Who would it be?

...Um.  Good question.  Bigger ones would win the ToR, the weakest would inherit the Pentagon and Cluster.  I'll have to think about it.

Ghost Bears and Sea Fox were happy to get out of dodge so rules them out

Goliath Scorpions and Blood Spirit don't have the influence

Star Adder have the strength and have rarely showed the interest in the Inner Sphere so I'll go them

Plenty would depend on how the initial invasion of the Inner Sphere was organized, executed and finished. Assuming an ilClan was declared said Clan would be in a position to dictate quite a bit to the other Clans. Removing all other fictional possibilities, I'd say whichever Clan is ilClan could designate a single Clan shepherd for the homeworlds from whatever Clans were either, A. not a part of the invasion, or B. arbitrarily assigned. It's kind of a cop-op answer, but you haven't really provided enough (IMO) information to make a "good call".

So here's the scenario:

All 20 Clans participate in the Invasion.
Invasion goes as planned (bar anything like Tukayyid) and Terra is conquered.
Clan Wolf manages to seize Terra.
ilClan Wolf assigns XXX Clan to shepherd the Homeworlds (but can not - as far as I know - remove said Clan from its Inner Sphere holdings.)

Here's where it gets messy. I don't think the ilClan can just hand stuff over. They'll rule/make policy, but I'm pretty sure reassignment of assets can only be accomplished through Trials since said assets were won in honorable combat. So ilClan Wolf can't stop the other 18 Clans from stripping their enclaves before the hand over, or trialing with the assigned shepherd over ownership.

Although, I might be wrong about that. I'd have to check.

I like Blood Spirit for this role. They are isolationists who would be excellent caretakers of the homeworlds in what ever function they serve. Would new pledges be sent out here to prove their worth to the Way of Kerensky? Would prisoners or undesirables?

well if we are in a post WoR universe, the Star Adders have the biggest potential to say "screw it" and just ohm nom everyone else.

pre Wars of Reavhing, the Blood Spirits want as little to do with the clans as anyone else, so why not them.  sell it as protecting kerensky's legacy, even ceding them the McKenna's Pride and patting them on the head for this great big important task.

The only thing I see as an issue here with the Blood Spirits isn't whether they would or could, but whether they would be allowed to.  I voted Star Adder because they have the clout to actually get it done.  Sure, the Spirits being out of the way of the other clans can be seen as a boon, but iirc they are also seen as the most unclanlike of the remaining clans, barring the Mandrils.  It would be an important task, as I feel the clans would idolize the home worlds much like Terra should they actually take the cradle of humanity.   Few clans even canon wished to fully leave their home completely, and a clan with some firepower and steeped(pre WOR) in clan doctrine would be. Better fit.  I'm sure the spirits could find a home, but not necessarily as the caretakers of Nicholas' dream.

the Star Adders are oppourtunists, and would see the untapped wealth of the inner sphere as a manifest destiny.  the clan left behind would not really be a prestige assignment.

it would be like an elemental being assigned to the Ebon Keshik, prestigious, but also a dead end.

...After a bit of thought, I have to agree that the Blood Spirits would be left behind.  Isolationist, yet one of the weaker Clans, they would take custody of the systems and facilities not worth moving.  I suspect the population of Clans moving to the IS would be taken with them, and just about everything else not bolted to the ground.

All the Clans want to get the glory of the fight to bring back the Star League but the Blood Spirits are more likely than others to agree to stay behind as they see themselves as the true heirs of the Great Father and the keepers of his ideals.

The Clans idolize the worlds of the InnerSphere as paradises hence the homeworlds are not somewhere you would want to stay. I really see them abandoned by most Clans except for a ceremonial post on Strana Mechty in the event they conquer the InnerSphere or take their piece of the pie so to speak elsewhere. You could then use them - the Pentagon Worlds, the Kerensky Cluster and the Tanite Worlds - as a place for the Spirits home where they could instruct new arrivals on the Way of the Clans.
