And like Morgan Kell before her, Callandre called up a bunch of Hounds Retirees and descendants to get together and shove thier boot up Malvina Hazen's ass

As long as she's being paid in good Steiner Kroner then all is well.

Yeah, I know. Such a shame that the targeting wasn't more precious. Ah, if only the Lyrans had finally been rid of the traitorous Kells.

And I love it. Anything for more dead Kells. It's a shame, because as a character, I can dig Callandre. Then I get to the Kell part and it's all "Nope, has to go."

Probably because they were the white hat, Mary-Sue go to guys for so long.  Much as I love that era, those types of good guy units seemed against the grain for me.  I understand you need a mob to cheer for in a novel, but the era was meant to be 5 nations, all as bad as each other.  The treatment of the Kells, and a few other notable units, jarred this a little, at least in my mind.

You know there is something wrong with the FWL, when Word's spell check changes Impavido to Impetigo and Zechetinu to Secretion.

Aye, true enough, still at least that seems to have changed now, all the mercenaries seem to be being portrayed correctly.

Aye, true enough, still at least that seems to have changed now, all the mercenaries seem to be being portrayed correctly.

Not sure if I'd go that far. There's still some definite white hats out there, and the Hounds seem to still be one of them. (I'm quite thankful that my 'Goons have gone back to be scrappy folks without insane resources who are quite willing to say "Screw your silly blood feud, Wolf. You're dead and buried. We're here to prove we're the best all over again.")

And BN pretty much covered it. The Lyrans were jammed with a plethora of white hat do-gooders for their house merc units, many of whom had the kind of loyalty you normally had to pay the Highlanders to showcase. They talked a good game about caring for the state, while buddying up to whatever outside interloper happen to have the shiniest chapeau in the moment. As a bit of a Lyran fan, it was rather annoying to see the fans clamoring about how awesome these fair-weather units were, while ignoring the ugly beauty of things like the Skye Rangers, the horrific elitism of the Royal Guards, the awfulness of the New Capetown sect, and the complete no-limits lifestyle of the Saucy Sixth. If you want the perceived white hats (they really weren't, but we can pretend), Davion space is over that way.

The dirty little messes are what make the Lyrans such a fun faction. Without them...why bother?

Funny how some things come full circle, isn't it? The Wolves are back on the Border. :)

I really starting to like what I see in ER/FM/TRO 3145. I like the hodge-podge of tech levels available. Makes for interesting forces set-up in combined-arms formations..

Personally, I like the Dark Age.  With a few exceptions, I really liked the novels.  The setting, especially with events set in motion in the later novels, is ripe for story and scenarios potential for both tabletop and rpg campaigns.
I look forward to getting a hardcopy of the 3145 era report and reading through.

Do you guys have any idea of what different stuff is in the 3145 Era Report versus the 3145 Field Manual?
And, what is in all the faction specific pdf material?

Era report=historical and political situation

Field manual= military status and troop deployments

The faction specific pdfs are tros of stuff produced by various factions and their associates (i.e. Clan wolf in exile for the steiners)

Not everything in those tros made it into the print 3145 tro save for the republic of the sphere.  For example the awesome spectre battle armor from mercs or the loki, thor, and vulture mk II are not in print.

One sad thing is that its only now at the end of the era are we getting real sourcebook information about the Dark Age.

Still, I'm excited for the Era Digest and the ilClan books!

I hope big mysteries like who caused the HPG blackout are finally resolved.

I had an interesting revelation when perusing some of the various "OH NOES! REBOOTZ!" threads over on BT prime. There is now an established Dark Age grognard mafia. Same for the Jihad era. Sounds strange, doesn't it? But you are looking at a time period that has existed now for 12 years, if you go back to the first Mechwarrior: Dark Age set in August 2002. It is hysterically funny (and/or sad, take your pick) to see these threads become a furball scrap between the "Clans suck!", the "FedCom4EVARH!", the "Jihad DO NOT WANT!", "Must. Have. More. Blakists." and the "3250 must DIE! MORE DARK AGE!" jerks.

It makes sense that such a group has popped up for this eras as well, I just kind of forget how long these two eras have been around.
