Introduction...
« on: April 05, 2011, 03:12:50 PM »

Just wanted to introduce myself, I'm also known as Klat on the CBT boards and was KlatBlutig on the pre-crash CBT boards.

As I've grown tired of the behavior on the official boards I thought I'd come here and see if I had any better luck. The whole AU concept is a bit new to me but I'm eager to start looking into the various settings the BT community has created.

Just wanted to say hello and get a feel for the boards before I start posting my assorted newb questions  ;)

Welcome aboard Klat! Glad to have you around. I see from your avatar you like the Black Widow. What else draws your fancy in BT?

Welcome Klat!

While AUs might be a big draw, we do it all! This place is built so anyone can find their own little BattleTech niche. If there's something you like to do, want to do, or just try - let me know!

I build to suit.

Welcome Klat, you'll find this place to be a bit more amiable than some of the "discussions" that occur over at CBT.  Welcome, enjoy, and bring friends.

Welcome aboard Klat! Glad to have you around. I see from your avatar you like the Black Widow. What else draws your fancy in BT?

I'm just a fan of mercs in general. Recently I've been grappling with the economics of playing mercs in the canon BT universe and I'm pretty well done trying to make it work. The whole Wolf Spiders thing is really thanks to the only MWDA minis I ever kept, the "Wolf Spiders Action Pack" and their easy to paint colors... oh and the whole "mercs in Mad Cats" thing too  ;)

I'm really stoked for the TRO 3063 project and recently donated to get the two Privateer miniatures made. I'm currently looking into trying to create a setting that address the private military market and any speculation that may occur within it (I simply can't imagine that investors wouldn't want to get in on the merc market).

I've been leafing through the Merc Guild download on this site and I have to say I'm really happy to see the write ups on support companies that have cropped up around the merc industry.

Welcome Klat!

Wow, thanks! I'm going to start exploring the economics of the private military setting in BT with the intention of modifying the setting with an eye toward market forces and their effects on both mercs and sovereigns. The whole C-bill concept is brilliant as it gives the illusion of being a hard currency while in truth Comstar can create excess liquidity without much worry of a run. Things like that are what draw me to the BT universe, and the lack of writing on them in canon is a missed opportunity IMHO.

As a disclaimer I'm not an economics major, my degree is in political science and my grad studies were in law (I dropped out). I've spent the last couple of years following the RL markets as a hobby and with the realization that market forces have a huge effect (I'd argue more so than policy) on everyone I'd like to start exploring how I can add that as an aspect to my games.

Welcome Klat, you'll find this place to be a bit more amiable than some of the "discussions" that occur over at CBT.  Welcome, enjoy, and bring friends.

Thank you, "discussions" is a good way to put it. I'm pretty sure I was the first person to get a thread locked on the new boards. I wanted to discuss my players using Celestials as mercs, everyone else wanted to argue about Nazis. I should have just thrown in the towel then  ::)

I feel your pain regarding the main CBT Boards, hence why I wrote this http://ourbattletech.com/2011/02/you-know-who-you-are/

Welcome and have fun.

Speaking of which Klat, if you have the writers itch and want to add some flair to your thoughts, the Blog is always available.

Wow, again thanks everyone. I'm going to try to start thread on some if my ideas regarding the "war markets" of the BT universe and how (in theory) the markets drive a state of near constant conflict. I'm thinking this will be the primer to a much more ambitious project to paint a more realistic image of mercenaries and perhaps contribute to a mercenary centric setting where privatized armies are the norm.

Just one question; where the heck do I post such a topic?

General Discussion is probably the best place for it.
