It boils down to money.

Con Exclusives have better profit margin compared to time/effort/cost to make them and many people who do collect figurines buy them as impulse buys during cons. Such figurines are pride and joy for showing off later to other figurine collectors. Whether they are actually useful according to game rules is not of importance to many impulse buyers. It is the same phenomena in other figurine fields as well. You regularly have more rare German tanks in your bookshelf that German army actually fielded in any single combat or even have few units worth of night vision equipped German infantry. Naturally I do not admit that I am collecting such figurines compulsively.

That is pretty clear.  It also goes a long way towards explaining *why* they have not one, but four such offerings this year.  Making a generous withdrawal from the cash cow, it would seem.  I hope 'Wishes' is not the reason why.

[God, I have become such a cynic.  And a killjoy.  I am sorry, folks.  CGL is... fine.  It's just that some of the people working there have disappointed me on many levels, most of them having nothing to do with the game itself.   I should be used to it by now, but I'm not... and I've let it taint my enjoyment of the hobby.]

I understand your not wanting to collect such figurines compulsively.  Pity you cannot get them some fresh air on the tabletop... always assuming you had them ;)

For the record, IWM is an entirely different company from CGL, and CGL doesn't decide what they sculpt or release, outside of certain licensing guidelines.  They determine for themselves what is the most profitable avenue for the miniatures line.

And ALL the XTROs have that disclaimer, IIRC.

Incorrect.

And Wishes shares no corporate ties with CGL, just some common owners.

Incorrect?  Okay.  Sources?  I don't have all of the XTROs, but the ones I do have, have that blurb.

Regarding Wishes... I hope things look up for them.  I ain't about to lose any sleep over the place, but the statement 'shares no corporate ties with CGL, just some common owners' does not ease my mind one bit.  The sticky bit isn't with 'corporate' or 'owners', it lies in the word 'common'.

It's a game store up in Everett Mall (Everett, Washington).  Owned by Loren J. Coleman, I believe.  They are moving from their start-up location (a former Borders store, absolutely huge place) to a former Dollar Store across the hallway in the mall.  A lot smaller, but also a lot cheaper rent-wise.

So far, they've been following through with their promises, which is more than I can say for some people.

Pass.  I am up to my ears in new equipment.  But your point is made and I changed my original statement.

If they intend to make their living at it, I guess they ought to, eh?

Or if they plan to pass judgement on others.

No need to take my word for it, the proof is right here. Not changed at all. I'm glad to see that you finally got the "biggest BattleTech release of 2010" out.

Good call on the modify.

For the record, Ken's Yellow BattleMaster has everything to do with the Hexare Grenadiers gaming group, not an official tie to CGL. Comparing rank images between sites would be a mistake.
