Blackwell Heavy Industries
« on: July 03, 2016, 03:44:51 PM »

ok over at CBT boards i asked a question about Blackwell making more than the two omni's for the Dragoons. (kit Fox and Dire Wolf).   so in the course of the replies i began to wonder why didn't Blackwell expand to more than 1 major complex (underground Remus continent Outreach) and 1 minor facility on New Valencia.  they had the capitol to expand further.

Also why didn't they sell the rights to make them to the Fed Suns during the jihad?

Exclusivity contract? Wolf's Dragoons controlling it (via shares or more direct control)? Everything located on Outreach with no easy way out? Loyalty?

I'm surprised they didn't go the standard Clan Mech route instead of OmniMechs if I'm honest although they did add Clan weapons to a few Mechs.

Selling to the Suns would have brought them increased amount of capital as well and possibly access to other designs that could have had the Clan upgrade treatment

The Dragoons trying to maintain their independence is probably what limited Blackwell overall.  To expand further I bet the company would have needed outside help with the Dragoons starting a fight with the Blakists and then slowly returning to merc life (at the same time that was awfully clever) construction got replaced with preparations for war.

If anything I think the Dragoons were too quiet on Outreach.  I know they were devastated by their own Civil War conflict but I've always thought as soon as they had one or two Regiments back up to strength they should have been contracting out - at least keeping touch with what was happening in the Inner Sphere.

Their pre-occupation with the WoB/terrorists in the Chaos March ultimately screwed them and Blackwell if the Dragoons had stopped being so secretive and started sharing with ComStar and the SLDF what the WoB were up might have been caught on quicker

A little off topic... oops

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.
