As the question above states.

I'm looking to revamp and revise the Clan OmniMech roster for an alternative universe.  Part of this has already been posted (in the first looks at Handbook:  Clan Goliath Scorpion).  And right now, I'm running a Configuration Challenge contest for some new OmniMechs that will be designed and put into production by Clan Ice Hellion.  Those will be part and parcel of this AU as well.

Now, some designs (Adder, Stormcrow, Timber Wolf, and Dire Wolf among them) will be retained pretty much "as is".  Others, however, I'm taking a long hard look at and trying to find replacements that just FIT the Clans better!

And one idea I have had (dating back to my initial look at the Clans), was why didn't any of the Clans (with their superior technology) concentrate not on SPEED but on MOBILITY?  I.e., the ability to use jump jets to move around the tactical battlefield.

I know.  I know.  But MA, JJs can be pod-mounted; there is no need for a Clan to accept a lower payload to feature FIXED JJs on EVERYTHING.

You're right.  But it would be cool.  A Clan where 100% of the Touman in EVERY configuration could jump.  Imagine fighting one of THOSE Clusters in 3050 as member of the AFFC or DCMS or KungsArmee!

So.  Back to the question.  Which Clan, in your opinion, would make the best use of developing and deploying only OmniMechs with fixed jump jets?

Personally, I'm leaning towards the JADE FALCONS.  They already have the Nova, Summoner, and Turkina in their canon Touman.  And it would give these guys a niche (other than being antagonists of Clan Wolf) that no other Clan fills.  Highly symbolic as well!  At least, I think so.

But what do YOU think?

One could argue that the Falcons are heading that way as they are in the 3100s.  They have their IMMA BURD!!!! Mechs with jump jets and partial wings, they reintroduced the Cougar-X series, even things like the Flamberge II and Onager as well as their ongoing smutty love affair with the Summoner series.

Other Clans, off the top of my head, Cloud Cobra and Raven due to their aerospace fettish.

Snow Ravens, had Mongoose lived longer Clan Mongoose, Ice Hellion, Cloud Cobra's, id even say that the Coyote's would lean toward JJ's.

Off hand I would say Nova Cat because of their number and skill with 'hot drops' during the invasion. I believe these maneuvers which drop Mechs from orbit require jump jets to control their atmospheric descent although that claim can be researched as I am sleep deprived at the moment and could be wrong. But it is a long held assumption that I have made based on their operations in stories.

Here are some of my thoughts on other Clans -

Blood Spirit should be the Zombie Mech Clan building cheap machines that can take a pounding but keep on going
Burrock never develop any specialization in my opinion and is all over the place based on circumstances something which fits their totem IMO
Cloud Cobra seems to be a light Mech Clan primarily with fighter support and at least in my setting develop 'parajump' tactics like the Nova Cats
Coyote and Smoke Jaguar are Vampire (Assailant) Mech Clans relying on Assault and Heavy weight firepower to annihilate their opponents
Fire Mandrill is primarily a medium weight Mech Clan that has great equipment (Vampire focused on heavy firepower) often in poor shape cause of constant fighting
Steel Viper lean toward Zombie Mechs imo to protect their slowly developed ultra skilled Mechwarriors as best as possible

These assertions is made without any sort of data mining or design research to see which Clan actually has the most fixed jump jet OmniMechs in its possession at the start of the invasion circa 3048 (see Operation Revival Trial RATs). When I get finished with my Quicksilver Upgrades (this year some time) such data should be readily available.

i was basing my opinion on the Clans with Aero as their primary focus, Snow Raven, Cloud Cobra, and swift blitzkrieg tactics Ice Hellion, Steel Viper, Diamond Shark, and early Coyote.

I would say the Snow Ravens who have a naval focus which is different from Cloud Cobras aerospace focus would be another interesting candidate for a jump jet Clan. Especially if the are adept at Mech fighting in space. Of course this is offset by the Clan's scavenger economy which relies heavily on salvage.

Hard not to disagree with the Falcon suggestion either

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

Falcons get the number 1 slot for me.

Then I ran some numbers based on designs with integrally mounted jump jets certain clans were noted to use heavily in the TRO descriptions (only up to 3058).

Smoke Jaguars - With their heavy emphasis on individual warriors, they are least likely to have an entire cluster employing them.

Ghost Bears - I could see certain commanders demanding the employment of jump jets in certain circumstances, but I don't see them having clusters dedicated to their use.

Nova Cats - A mix between the Jaguars and Ghost Bears, I see them as more individualized than the Bears, but more organized than the Jaguars.  But this means to me that they are unlikely to have an entire cluster dedicated to JJ use.

Ice Hellions - I could very easily see a them preferring to use jump jets given the additional mobility they would grant.

The Cloud Cobras and Star Adders were honorable mentions in this.  And in both cases I could see cluster-sized formations emphasizing the use of jump jets being used.  The Star Adders are more likely in this regard due to their overall strategy-based nature.

The last one to mention is the Snow Ravens, I've always envisioned the Stoop Clusters were a version of striker cluster entirely utilizing jump jets - though there is no real evidence to support this vision.

TLDR:

Most likely to least likely permanent cluster-sized formations utilizing jump jets:
Jade Falcons
Star Adders
Ice Hellions

With Cloud Cobras and Snow Ravens a distant 4th and 5th.

Given the way they have been developed I could see Clan Jade Falcon being the one to do this.
