Hessian, the Great Houses had their fair share of advanced tech at the time, and no indication that they would be incapable of producing it, or losing it in the future. New Dallas was a tough nut to crack on the way to more important Hegemony worlds, but threatening enough you simply couldn't or wouldn't want to bypass. Plus there's that whole Member-State superiority complex...

Nuking it seemed appropriate at the time.

WORD (of Blake) is good for two things. 1. Leaving inappropriate notes on other people's work. 2. Adding fake words (of Blake) to the dictionary.

Or being really good so that they want to join you.

"In turn they tested each Clan namesake
in trial against the Ice Hellion's mettle.
Each chased the Ice Hellion, hunting it down.
All failed to match the predator's speed and grace.
Khan Cage smiled and said, "And that is how we shall be."

Silly Texans

 ;D

Given that they had royal mechs, It should come as no surprise that the houses nuked it, knowing that the defenders likely had a 'Battle of the Alamo in space' mindset
