Clan versions of standard weapons?
« on: May 01, 2024, 06:45:15 PM »

What was the rule about clan made standard weapons (LL, mL, AC-whatever)?

IIRC it was one ton and one slot lighter and more compact but I can't find where I read it.

Compact yes but lighter, not for all of them.

I'll take a look. You know it is too bad resource poorer Clans (Blood Spirit or Goliath Scorpion for example) didn't make use of these Clan Level 1 weapons. Could be a real interesting use of these Clan low tech tools and would explain their brief appearance in the TRO. We could go even poorer though I suppose with the Bandit Caste deploying these tools. Hmm....

What is the rule Ice? -1 critical? Are some -1 ton??

There is a FF on Space Battles called 'Guided by the light of a (Red) Cameron StarĀ“ Where the Wolverines and 295th makes it back to the IS and start up the TH in exile with the Niopsians. I was thinking standard weapons made to clan specs would make a good export item without handing over clan level weaponry for reverse engineering.

One less critical space (but never less than 1) and the missile, flamers and machine guns weight only half as standard weapons.

I like the idea but the real question is would they be worth producing. Are they much cheaper/easier to produce?

Ice my friend I hear ya but you have to ask the question how are these things even around in the first place? Once you open that door you're going somewhere with it, aff?

Neg. If you have problems getting access to ammo or to production, how do you use them?

Perhaps they were bought into existence when the Invading Clans needed to find a solution for their long logistical road and preserved the advanced weapons for their OmniMechs and when they found out it was easy to "improve" a little the captured Inner Sphere factories.

This makes sense but it doesn't give the Home Clans an easy access to these systems.

That's interesting Ice. Perhaps it was done during the initial invasion to augment logistical support. Remember TRO 3050 was set at the start of the Year of Dread when the ilKhan was killed and the Bloodnamed returned to the Kerensky Cluster to elect a new ilKhan.

Likely yes to both, any clan that has small holdings would use what ever is cheaper and fast to to produce, like blood spirit!
