ProtoMechs!
« on: August 14, 2017, 10:57:27 AM »

I guess I'll ask here since there's no clear answer. I have some rules for constructing IS ProtoMechs, plus a bunch of designs, but there's no Proto section on these forums. (Not surprising given its status as the red-headed stepchild of Battletech, but whatever.) Shall I toss them in the Mech section, or is there somewhere else they can go?

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

While I was never fond of ProtoMechs there are Ultralights (Mechs weighing less than 20 tons) posted on this board.

SQUEE!
I mean, I designed a series of 10-19 ton Ultralights based on home-brew AU tech.  I'll take a look at them.

Speaking of Proto's have you guys seen Plog's take on a 'production' version of them, I don't know who commissioned them but they are lovely!

I saw those Plog arts. A much better fit for the BT aesthetic, I think.

Red Pins, I'm assuming you're talking about your ELMs/PAMs; do you have stats for any of them up anywhere? I'd love to have a look. :D

the closest thing to rules for Inner Sphere Protos is the Word of Blakes disturbing means of integrating Manei Domini into Protomechs to grisly effect.  functionally the construction was still Clan Tech, it just used a VDNI interface as opposed to EI and there where some... add ons since Domini Operators were quadruple amputees.

Um.  The original designs are packed away - I haven't had a playtester or reason to pull them out for a long time.  From memory, the most common was to be the 12-ton Striker

6/9
Light Cockpit - 1.5 tons (Think enclosed motorcycle seat.  The fluff said it wasn't sealed against water, NBC, or Infernos, but I might re-think if I ever open it back up.)

Armor - I can't remember how much or the layout - I think there were 60 points of armor total, but I can't remember what the IS looked like.

Wpns  - Two Medium Lasers, two Small lasers, four RL-10s

The rest of them were deliberately slated for different roles.  From memory,
9 T - Scout, 9/14, Beagle AP
10 - ?
11 - ?
12 - Striker (above)
13 - ?
14 - Permanent Air Mech, 6/9, internal mission bay, Guardian
15 - ?
16 - Wrecker/Field Maintenance unit, 2 lift hoist, fluid gun
17 - ?
18 - ?
19 - Assault/Fire Support, Large laser (I can't remember if its an ER)

I can PM you the construction rules if you want to make your own.  Keep in mind they belong in the AU for a reason, though - they're vicious little killers, but there are other tech items in the AU that make them less dangerous, like the Cassette missile system that fires 30 SRM/40 LRM, etc.
