Replacement for Endo Steel
« on: August 25, 2013, 01:56:09 PM »

I was going over Endo-Steel. Now Endo-Steel is formed of High Density Steel with Lower Density Titanium and Aluminum. I realized that either the Clans or The I.S. can have a epiphany because there is a Higher Density Metal Non Alloy. Which Steel being an Alloy. That when combined together with a Lower Density Metal can produce a stronger Endochassis. The Higher Density metal is Tungsten an which when mixed with Cobalt should produce a stronger material which would be stronger than Endo-Steel but be less bulkier than Clan Endo-Steel.

Sounds good, but what drawbacks were you thinking of (besides cost?

Still working on it but the advantages will be great and if I work it out right Lam's can use it.

LAMs can already use Composite internal structure...

True but the structure is more fragile and takes twice the damage from a hit.

the thing is there has to be a trade off, and the LAM Rules, as it is presumed to be written, prohibit construction materiels (Engine, Gyro, Cockpit, Chassis and Armor) that use up critical space (though you can use compact components).  if you are making an endo steel replacement that is lighter then standard and takes no internal space, then there HAS to be some form of trade off that affects gameplay.

Oh I know still working out the kinks then offering up for gameplay. I figure to let other resources be discovered. I had created years ago but cannot find it at the moment Duplex Autocannons. It created a little more heat than a Ultra but did not use additional ammo.

Hm.  I know there's Reinforced, but how does the atomic weight of your new material compare to the ones in Endo-Steel?

Okay I am a Mechwarrior not a Scientist. Now we are getting way into an area that I have to grab a scientist.

You know there is something wrong with the FWL, when Word's spell check changes Impavido to Impetigo and Zechetinu to Secretion.

I'd step away from more metals and start working on adding carbon fibers and advanced ceramics.

Aha.  How about, using the ceramic/graphite to provide weight savings, but the ceramic is less effective against the physical impact of ballistic weapons than the damage caused by lasers/PPCs.

That gives us a reasonable excuse for weight savings, and a reasonable problem with the material.

we have that, it is called composite internal structure (fluffed as a series of carbon nanotubes and ceramics) introducing endo steel into the mix of course creates endo composite chassis!
