Writing and music prompts
« on: October 06, 2018, 10:54:46 AM »

When writing stuff I listen to music and that'll be anything from metallica to classic to the Magic Sword - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q29bweNyGjM&t

But when doing battletech stuff I tend to listen to music that I think matches the setting or the feel of what i'm writing about.

So for something about the Clans I might start with - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhWaufQD9Uo  or audiomachine - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzifeTuMijI as two examples.  So, do you folks do the same and listen to 'mood/setting' music whilst writing or is there any bits of music that make you think of Battletech or the setting?

When i want to focus on something i can't listen to music with words i use Pandora predominantly for music.

For Clans I use https://youtu.be/Y_ZrWUL4k68 as the basis for a station works for Capellans as well I'd assume

Draconis combine i have one for https://youtu.be/nQU8AdluxtI

Lyrans and FC traditional classic Wagner Bach Beethoven

I actually need silence to write. Any distractions are not really helpful. Jotting down all my thoughts then having good feedback from interested parties I find produces the best results.

Generally speaking I like some music in the background when I'm writing.

Mostly the music doesn't have to have something to do with the story, although I often pick something thematic when I'm planning the story and include that in the mix so I can cue it up quickly if I'm feeling stuck. This helps me to get in the mood. (I usually include a snippet of the lyrics from that song at the start of the story.)

Writing = Whatever pops up on Pandora

Designing = Whatever show/laptop I'm streaming on my laptop
