Bannson's Raiders
« on: March 17, 2014, 03:39:46 PM »

Anyone know what happened to Bannson's Raiders?
The 3145 era report has a sidebar mentioning that Bannson is missing but I didn't see a write-up on Bannson's merc units.

I'm not an expert on the Dark Age whatsoever but I believe that they got killed over some outrage done by the commander. Didn't he steal some money or something??

Bannson's raiders was an umbrella group of various ill reputed mercenary groups and street gangs hired by BUU to either secure Jacob Bannson's economic interests or disrupt other players.

The most prominent forces at his disposal were the Wyld's Jokers mercenary regiment, the band of five cult, and the core of BUU's private security forces before the blackout named The Scourge.

Little about the make up of these forces is known.

You can find mention of many of their prominent members in various sources.  Cynthia kelly, jack farrell, and basil kozka i think all get a mention

Thanks for the responses guys!
I found a website Warrenborn that had links to the Mechwarrior clix info on the figures and pilot cards.  And I found a Battletech forum post with a PDF of collected Mechwarrior pilot dossiers.

I was curious more if anyone had seen stuff for Battletech I could convert to Alpha Strike.  I'm a newbie and I don't really have any idea of how to write this stuff up or convert it.  Not yet anyway.

It's strange because alot of the factions for the clix game were stated up in the 4135 book but not the Raiders.

I wanted to ask around to see if maybe I didn't miss something.
I haven't gotten the 4135 Field Manual or TRO yet so I guess it's always possible some info might be in one of those.

In addition to the Mechwarrior pilot cards I think the group is mentioned in a few of the early Dark age novels, I think Ghost War (#1) and some of the Proving Grounds trilogy (books #4-6).  The Raiders but not One Eyed Jack Farrel or Bannson make an appearance as antagonists in Heretic's Faith (#17).  I vaguely remember a mention in another book with the Capellans but I don't remember the context or the actual book title.

Is there a standard form that writers use for merc write-ups?  If I try to throw together a fan project, what sort of information should I include and in what style?

Thanks,

Monty

You may want to look at the Historical: Wars of the Republic Era for some more information. I haven't bought the PDF yet, but that would certainly seem to be a time when Bannson's factions were seeing more focus.

I can't recall exactly, but I thought I remember a Historical: Early blackout or some such product being mentioned as upcoming. If so, that would also be one to look at.

Also, this thread over on the BT forums may help as well. I know that Deadborder has always been a huge fan, and he may be able to direct you to more resources as well.

Historical Wars of the Republic Era only covers a small amount of Bannson's Raiders.  considering that at the time BUU was a startup run by Xavier Bannson...

there has been repeated talk about an Era Digest product detailing the Republic Rebellions of which BUU was heavily involved (including an 8 way battle for Iran's Battlemech Factory.)  as well as other products... when we will see that is unknown.

too bad I am something of a Wyld's Jokers fan :P

I feel like FM 3145 covers Bannson, but for some reason I might be thinking of something else...

Only thing I found on a PDF search was a minor reference to him building up forces, and his involvement with the 12th Vegan Rangers (for a short period of time).

yeah, I just wanted a table showing his forces at the height of thier size, akin to the tables in FM 3145.  I would like that for all major republic factions (Steel Wolves, Stormhammers, SwordSworn, Dragons Fury, Bannson's Raiders, Spirit Cats)
