ity is weird for me because at one point, I feel that the people complaining have few legitimate arguments.

Iron Wind, as far as I am concerned, is not innocent either, but that is also a conversation for another thread.

Is there much of a difference in popularity between the Spectral LAMs and the Mark 1 versions of the Star League LAMs? Would it have made a difference to the project had the Mk1 units been the ones originally offered, and the Spectral LAMs added in as stretch goals?

(Of course, I'm hoping that the project will be successful enough to allow both sets of LAMs to get their due; but I'm wondering more about the relative degrees of interest there may or may not be among the BT fanbase for either set of units.)
With me there is. I have a total dislike, bordering on outright hatred, for the current trend for the artwork, especially anything from the WoB omnis onward. This includes the Celestials, Demon-series BA, Spectrals as well as the Stag, Bruin, Penethesilea, Onager and perhaps a dozen more (mostly in TRO3085). While the artists have talent in how they draw/ink/paint, they are seriously lacking in style.

CAVEAT: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so I don't expect any of you to agree with my view.

Group image of all of the 3085 Star League LAM's that are part of the Stretch Goals.

To see a larger image of it, go to the Stretch Goals 3085 LAM Gallery

Great picture; I can imagine how the Mk1s might look if lined up to fight their Spectral LAM counterparts.

Additional Pictures in the Gallery of the Waneta.

Also, three days left to make it to the goal and fund the project.

guys, we got a little under 48 hours to go and 5 grand in order to get 12 miniatures (the spectrals plus the Wasp)

I know it is too much to hope for beyond that.  I have already kicked in 1600 for this so I am tapped out, but if we could get the rest of the OBT Community to kick in either 10 dollars (for a thank you) or 30 dollars (for a Mini and a thank you) I am sure we all could put a serious dent into making it towards the goal.

lets show IWM what the OurBattletech./com community is made of!

I've been watching this kickstarter, and have given far too much to various projects over the past few months...

But $255 for 9 miniatures, OUCH, that is $28 each.  They aren't made of gold or anything..... or are they? :)

But, if they get near $35K, I'll bid $750 to get the additional Wasp/Stinger/Phoenix Hawk LAMs as the additional mechs help offset the larger price.

Of course, a lot of folks may just be like "meh", as these designs are, in the current universe completely obsolete and dead.

Good news is there is a robotech miniatures game coming, perhaps even through kickstarter, and some of us may be waiting for that more as the unseen still look better than the new designs, by al ong shot.  News for that here:  http://robotechbattles.blogspot.com/

One thing I was wondering in the longer term is this; should this project serve as a means of helping to introduce IWM to the ins and outs of 3D modelling, could it act as a precedent for getting other miniatures done up in the same manner?

For example, could any pre-existing minis (such as the Timber Wolf or Savage Wolf) or future potential options (such as the various totem 'Mechs to be published in Technical Readout: 3145) be candidates for (re-)development in the new style?

I'm thinking of how the hand-crafted Starline 2400 miniature range compares to the 3D-modelled Starline 2500s; where ships like the Romulan SparrowHawk are, in my view, significantly improved in the transition to the new miniature line. (The 2400-series ship looks like this, while the 2500 series is shown here.)

Indeed, whatever the 3250 'Mechs may end up looking like, could it be an option for their minis to be drawn up from scratch with 3D modelling in mind?

That was what I was thinking.  Personally I am only marginally invested in the WOB LAMs, having already given blood sweat and tears to make the Star Leauge ones happen two years ago (which will be coming one way or another in the next year.)  but I view this as an oppourtunity for IWM to get into using 3D printing for mold making, and considering what will be happening tot he line in the not to distant future, this could if funded right and with the cost covered up front, provide a huge boost for IWM.  that is more why I throw my weight behind it.

I'm shocked that they made their goal, given the way that it started off and how it was managed early on. Good news for IWM, though, they can finally join the 3d protoyping craze

they didn't just make the goal, but they have the Stinger and Wasp stretch goals (Caveat, with 33 minutes left to go)

down to the effing wire!
