With the exception of very few members (in fact, only one or two come to mind), the Manei Domini simply did not break ranks. The remote-kill option was instead a feature built in to aid teams in ensuring their partners were not captured unless mission specifics allowed for it. A Domini team of two or more would receive an objective, and some would stay in reserve, observing the situation. If a Domini became incapacitated in a way that somehow did not auto-trigger his suicide implants, his partner--entrusted with the codes for only his teammates--could initiate the self-destruct remotely.
Teamwork, not control!
Of course, this same system would be used on the "operatives" whose augmentations were somewhat less voluntary, later, such as one ex-Circinian pirate in particular...
