Does anyone think it is strange that Catalyst is only gonna spend a single years worth of products in the dakr Age era before jumping on to 3250?  I am not expecting six years like the development of the Jihad, but two would have been nice, you know.

I'd think a year maybe 2 years on the DA era - 1st year makes sense of what happened when WizKids did to it.  2nd year shows the solutions to the problems created and sets you on course for the start of the second golden century.

(my take on what is likely to happen I did post on CBT forum)

One of the Clans takes Terra is declared ilClan.  In the 100 years from DA-new era the old names Federated Suns, Draconis Combine, Wolf, Jade Falcon etc are forgotten as are the houses Davion, Steiner, Liao, Kurita and Marik.

Under The ilClan's stewardship a new golden age flourishes but individual nations disappear.  Behind that however there is a growing resistance movement that is driven by individuals hailing from the "dead" Succession Families.  As the timeline unfolds the ilClan falls back into the Terran Hegemony territory while the new Succession States rise up regaining their independence.

Pretty much the Clans do everything Nicholas Kerensky wanted them to do and then some, but in the end the Inner Sphere resets to what it was during the Star League-era just with a different nation in the middle.

(if this happens I will honestly shoot myself for working it out)

believe it or not there is not much that goes "wrong" or "awry" with the Dark Age.  the only faction that acts traditionally out of character is Clan Jade Falcon, and that can be explained as a particular leader (Malvina Hazen) that no one has been able to honorably usurp (Because only falcon Khans and Scientists are known for duplicity)

the only other thing that was weird was the dissolution of the Free Worlds Leauge and that was explained away from the Jihad Arc (and was AWESOME!)  even Clan Wolf's "4th Exodus" made sense in light of Clan Jade Falcons psychosis, as well as starting the road to Reunifacation with the Exiles.

Well, its not like DA stuff is only going to be released from January 1st, 2013 to December 31st, 2013. There will probably be stuff before and after that.

...As others have mentioned, the DA were controversial - I suspect this is Catalyst's answer.

BTW, I was in a thread on the official forum, and both Ben Rome and Herb chimed in; the new 3520 era will be under tight security until the last of the DA books has been published.   Ben and Herb admitted to talking about the new timeline already, and Herb admitted he's going to be extremely frugal with any hints.  So we can, at best, look forward to more one-word hints for the new era.  Given how 'IlClan' and '3520' have stirred curiosity, I think it could work.

ABTW - the next Battlechat is Oct 20.   :D

I do not believe that this is a coincidence. Both DA and Jihad were not considered to be best FASA/FanPro/CGL settings by majority of gamers. In one poll DA was considered to be best by just 3% which is very low number considering the level of support it had gotten (dozens of novels). Thus bypassing poorly received setting makes sense if company's developers truly believe that 3250 is going to be the new hotness that turns property's fortunes around.

As far as publishing speed is concerned, CGL's publishing plans have always proven to be overtly ambitious. I believe that single year will be 1.5 years in real time and last product(s) of first time jump are going to be mixed with first product of new time jump. Whether we are going to see all planned products published will naturally depend on sales. Poorly selling lines are not finished off or they languish for few more years.

I now believe that 3250 is where they have put all their eggs in one basket. At least the statements have been strongly supporting on making it as the new default setting.

That makes sense.  the Jihad only got more popular as it got fleshed out and CGL "proved" it was not just wizkids fiat, but something that could stand on it's own merits

Jihad's popularity as the best setting hovered at about 10-15% which was very low considering that it was a setting being heavily supported (last 5-6 years). This is shockingly low number considering that it was current setting supported with just about anything and everything company could muster.

Polls make poor candidates to render judgment on the success of anything.

This is especially true of web polls and questionnaires. 

While polls can be useful for quick snap censuses, they suffer from some serious shortcomings; the least of which is the platform. The best determinant for the success or failure of a setting or product line, is sales. Plain and simple.

Herb has mentioned numerous times the relative failure of single-faction products, despite a fair number of players espousing a desire to buy them. Why? Because no matter how "loud" the internet gets, sales don't lie.   
 
IMO, I'd be careful basing any argument on an internet forum poll – especially when the question is the success or failure of a setting.

Still, it's an interesting question.
