...to add to my concerns, clicking on the "go up" button centers the bottom of the thread on my screen.  And my wife just emphatically refused to change browsers.

Edit; ...then I sign in, and it works. WTH?

At this rate, I'm looking at a long leave of CBT and a bunch of other websites until it all levels out or the computer crashes.

Why not run both browsers?  Your wife can use Internet Explorer and you can use Firefox.

You know there is something wrong with the FWL, when Word's spell check changes Impavido to Impetigo and Zechetinu to Secretion.

I might put it one the box in the basement, but the wife would shit a brick if I put it on the laptop.

Does anybody have a solution for this?  Will I be able to access the site later if this attack stops, or does it depend on the site administrator fixing the site so people using explorer can access it?

Hmmm... I've just tested to access the CBT-website not just with Firefox, but also Opera and IE(the last one I usually refuse to use).
I was able to access the CBT-website with all three of them wíthout incident or delays.

So I wonder if your problems are browser-related Red Pins.

Ciao

...Even resetting to factory settings and diagnosing connection problems doesn't help.  I'm considering updating to google chrome, but that won't help.

Google Chrome is an ok browser - by far Firefox is the best in terms of usability and security, followed by Safari and then Chrome. Tell your wife that you want to protect your electronics investment (read: computer) and install Firefox.

I'll run through the logs and browser testing again for ya Pins.

Any rational reason why? It'd certainly increase the security of your personal computer.

Alright, you're still not able to access the CBT forums? Are you only having trouble there and not here? Correct? I just want to get a quick recap.

What type of Anti-Virus/Firewall Software are you using. Are you using any IE plugins? What version of IE?
