So, I brought up the IlKhan book over at the official forum, and I didn't care much for the dumpster fire it started. Here it is;

I'm starting to wonder about CGL's ability to get it published, what with the tariffs on China and all, and the turnover in writing staff let alone the other issues I won't bring up. I'd like to see the end of the Clan story arc, but it doesn't seem to be close to being published.
Opinions? Comments?

Interested in seeing what they come up with but doesn't affect me in any way with what they come up with. I'd think this will be the next major project after kickstarter so late this year maybe early 2021.
-
But - why the kickstarter? I mean, they've invested in the success of a video game, using the staff of a BOARD GAME to launch a kickstarter, right? I thought the video rights were held by Microsoft?
-
Because the Kickstarter was for the board game. It's for the Clan Invasion box and a whole bunch of add-ons.
-
Ahh... Right.
So, are Kickstarters going to be the norm in the future? Why choose to do a KS in the first place? I thought that was for companies that needed investment, I'd think CGL was an established company with enough assets not to need money like this.
-
I think it's way of the future if not enough interest not worth investing time and money.

Personally, I think the future of BattleTech is whatever you want it to be. FASA I feel like Marvel let certain things like the video game get away from it along while ago. Creative control even before its demise was a shaky proposition que the Somerset Strikers. Before Bradshaw starts going on about everything that the original game ripped off (much like Pacific Rim) I want to say how much fun it all is to me still but I really don't have anything invested in the ilClan storyline. Will I see what happens? Sure but it won't be like my emotional investment back in the day when say Focht said Terra isn't that important or Victor fights an entire Civil War only to let his sister go, yikes... Look I loved the job that Herb and others did with the Jihad, I mean they picked up a storyline which was all kinds of blurted up and did a fantastic job with it. I mean they almost made the Word of Blake plausible, not easy to do. BattleTech Shattered Dawn was the first of my alternate settings which attempted to go its own way before the Year of the Star League sat on it. Now with Salient Horizons I am trying to do the same. Go off in another direction while canon is doing the kickstarter in what is the Golden Age of my BattleTech playing. I know that probably sounds old to many younger fans of the universe who want to see the next chapter written but I like it right here.

...I don't know...
I'm fifty this year and said this was the end for me, IlClan was supposed to wrap it all up, and it seems CGL is a bit screwed what with all the background starting with the embezzlement. I'd almost welcome them losing the license to somebody else, and starting fresh without Randal and the rest of them.

In certain ways I'd be fine with a complete restart. Start over from Star League collapse and move forward from then.
Some of the advanced tech is fine but its the addition of retrotech that somehow was lost is ridiculous. Tech needs to be completely revamped as lasers that only go hundreds of meters is frankly stupid. Technically space weapons can't even reach planetary surfaces and vice versa per their ranges. Its all sad. But hey its a game so I play it because I love the old fluff. Anything starting with loss of Terra I can say f'it and ignore.

Pretty sure they will, it might be delayed but they will.
