Winners and Losers of TRO 3145
« on: April 10, 2013, 10:14:02 AM »

this list will obviously need to be revived as time goes on.  but I wanted to know what everyones winners and losers are in this TRO series.

Winners

Marauder Battle Armor- initially my reaction was "Really?!" but as time went on and I looked at the stats I can not help but like this beast

Gossamer VTOL- 3 Clan Medium Pulse lasers, excellent speed, decent armor coverage.  like the mantis before it this puppy is an excellent battlefield interdictor and gap exploiter

Gun Trailers.  Need Cheap Fire support?  yoou got it!

Hound- Proof Positive that IntroTech is not Dead

Vulture and Mad Cat Mk IVs- see my earlier thread, these puppies are the next leap in advanced clan equipment.

Nagasawa Drop Ship- Who needs warships when you can make smaller faster beat sticks like this?  Drone this puppy and put ARCS on the Foxes Cargoships

the Losers
Cardinal Transport- is it an assault ship?  is it a transport?  Tactical support VTOL?

Savior- for a repair vehicle it has little salvage and repair equipment

Stalking Spider II- like the Goshawk II HCT-7S and PNT-13K a completely unnecessary workaround to accommodate Dark Age artwork.  it does not take much blood sweat and tears to give existing Stalking Spiders Turrets.

Jade Hawk- I never liked this design, not because of the "Bird Mech" Aesthetics, but because it was to dedicated of a Close combat platform.  I almost think they did not go far enough, and should have added talons with the claws

The Diamond Sharks and whoever they sell product.

The Gossamer, the one VTOL transport, and that replacement for the Odin? Yeah, vicious. Gun trailers? Add them all together and you have a very viable, cheap BV alternative to 'Mech forces that can do serious damage above their weight class.

the Lamprey?  the epitome of Boring yet practical?  I would prefer a Vector Modified to have a 4 ton cargo capacity, but that does not make the Lamprey any less nice.

The Lamprey does have a 4 ton bay. And no, I'm not talking about the Lamprey. That's not Clan. ;)

The Cardinal and the Kite were the two names I couldn't remember. For their BV, yes please.

Also, I think you can tell that the tech paradigm has changed rather dramatically when the Calderon Protectorate seems to be making a battle armor suit using improved stealth armor, mag clamps, and light gauss rifles with relative ease.

yeah the spectere is an unknown quantity for me.  I want to figure out how to use it well, but unlike the Angerona, it evades me.  maybe if it had a Light TAG

I don't get why take a Lamprey when there's the Cavalry Infiltrator already around which I think is a better VTOL despite the lower armour

The Saviour does have a Mobile Field Base so I'd have it just for that, just because you can't see the machinery doesn't mean it isn't there hidden behind armour panels  ::)

The Cardinal I agree with a VTOL that can't decide what to do

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

honestly have little problem with the cardinal in and of itself, but the mass dedicated to the LB 2X makes me think it should be a strategic support craft.  gut the cargo hold and add more LRM 5s to make it a minelayer, while the LB2 is for pinking tanks or something.

or swap the LB 2X for a Medium Pulse and add more AP gauss rifles out of all of the sides.

Swap the LBX for a large pulse laser fusion engine gives sinks to cover it and weight is same

Remove ammo for more toys

Because there are no indications that the Cavalry Infiltrator is being sold outside the FedSuns? Because the Lamprey doesn't have incredibly expensive, harder to maintain, high tech equipment like a VTOL jet booster compact gauss weaponry, and vehicular stealth armor? Because they're not made by the same faction, and are made by factions not likely to sell to one another? Because they were made for completely different roles?

I dig the LBX on the Cardinal. LPL on that thing is just another over-optimized design. I like the idea of a transport VTOL that can have a shot at dropping other VTOLs in its path (via that scattergun). Is it a great unit? Not so much. Is it something that stands out on fluff and design mentality? Absolutely. I'll take the Hammerhands over most of the later Phoenix Warhammers any day. I'll take the Mad Cat Mk IV over the original Timberwolf.

I really like: Gun Trailers, Gossamer, Tiburon, Vulture Mk. IV, Mad Cat Mk. IV and Condottiere.
Oh and did I mention I like the Gun Trailers?  ;)
Seriously though: I can imagine some nasty applications for those Gun Trailers, especially that Arrow IV Gun Trailer.

I don't have it yet, but I've been using trailers for years now, as one way to set my AU apart.

My favorite remains the RL trailer, though.

Those trailers are interesting, though I need a bit more time to go through each any every option.
The Marauder BA elicited a "Wait, what?" response from me, but I like it over all, it may be a bit light on armor, though.
The Spectre on the other hand strikes me as intriguing; given that mechanical jump boosters only provide 1 MP, I see them more useful for RPG scale and for the ground speed boost than for their actual jump MP.
I like the new Vulture, but the latest Mad Cat seems excessive to me with that XXL engine, beyond that, why armor the gyro with an engine like that?

The weight savings have to go somewhere. Plus, I kind of like that concept. Hard to knock it out of alignment, but easier to kill that power plant. It's got pizzazz.

Also, trailers are game changers. If you didn't respect cheap militia forces before, you'd best do so now.
