Your favorite unit from TRO Prototypes
« on: February 11, 2012, 03:20:39 AM »

As the title says I would like to ask everyone on this forum of his/her favorite unit from TRO Prototypes and why you like said unit.

Mine are:
-the Garuda Heavy VTOL(because it is well armored and sports heavy firepower for a VTOL and because it shows the
  potential of Heavy VTOL's)
-the STO-6S Stiletto(simply because I like the switch to an all-energy loadout, greater speed and simply because I like the
addition of fully articulated arms and hands)

What are your choices?

Ciao

P.S.: I am going to ask similar questions regarding other recent CGL BT-publications

As I am not a table topper, I do not really have a favorite, but it appears to me that the XTRO's are something of a muchkins wet dream.

Actually, most of the designs in them are horrifically flawed.  I played in a game with the DVS-X10 Devastator in it, and pre-game expectations were that with two 20 point guns striking out to 18 hexes, it would be a real terror.  By the end of the game, however, the silly thing hadn't connected with a single 20 point hit, and had been kicked and pummeled with weapons fire.  Turns out the thing was a horrible heat-pig and extremely vulnerable to damage.  Fun unit, though!

Hmm...I hadn't really used any of the new TRO Prototypes units into play, so I couldn't comment on their munch, or not, but that DVS-X10 game sounded like it would have been fun to watch.

That said, I really enjoyed the Umbra Aerospace Fighter (also thought the Planetlifter TS was a great unit for mercenaries/militias), and thought the Procyon (Quad) ProtoMech was beast. Coming in third was the new Thunderbolt IIC. Definitely a heat hog, but I liked the weapons layout.

Yeah, I'm pretty biased in favor of most of the ones I wrote for.  I  have to say I'm a big fan of the Warrior S-9 VTOL, however, and the Wildkatze fighter, neither of which I had much of anything to do with.

Neither had I. So to clarify my original post: The reason why you like a unit from TRO Prototypes much better than the others is irrelevant. If there is a unit you took a special liking to ....post it along with the reasons why.

And the Umbra AerospaceFighter is certainly nice.

Well, then, in that case....

Warrior S-9 VTOL - with stealth armor & a +5 movement modifier, no one is going to ever successfully return fire on it while it lays down that ELRM barrage.

DOL-1A2 Dola - It's a Spider with TAG and a vibroblade.  Who hasn't wanted that?

TSG-9DDC Ti Ts'ang - Yes, it's completely useless without an elite pilot, but with one, the TC/X-Pulse lasers and Lance can tear up just about any opponent.

THR-C4 Thunder - Pulls down a +3 jumping mod and can indirect fire a 20 point face-crusher out to 18 hexes?  Move over, Archer!  That's my kind of fire support!

TR-13G Transit - The Long Tom Cannon under the Aerospace rules makes the Improved Heavy Gauss Rifle look like a silly waste of resources.

Vengeance-DC class Pocket Warship - Swarms of fighters and swarms of missiles!  Few Pocket Warships will be able to touch the firepower of a solid Vengeance-DC group!

I kinda like the Transit with the Long Tom. With the Long Tom Rules, it could cause some havoc...

I got a kick out of the Suzaku. Looks like a poor man's Sulla, but armored up. The Vengeance is pretty nasty, but I question the effectiveness of the heavy missile load when you can fly a couple of squadrons of SB-31D Sabres.  ;) I still think the SCC-armed Interdictor is just plain nasty.

I also like the new Hydaspes 3. It's a killer.

I figure 18 TR-15 Transgressors could hose down any normal number of SB-31Ds prior to launching those missiles.

Good point. I was thinking those same SB-31Ds would be flying CAP around the target vessel, with either other squadrons taking on the Vengeance and her air group, or using the carrier's guns to cover the little AMS-armed Sabres while they do their job.

Hence why I let the CO choose the car we buy, if the brochure of XTRO says its great, I take them at thier word. I should try to get the maps and minatures out some more.

The Hunchback. I love CASE II enough that it should simply replace standard CASE. Additionally, it's the kind of Hunchback I've wanted for a long time. I've found it to be a great strong point for Republic mixed forces.

I didn't use them yet but I like some of the new pictures they made.

I'm in love with the look of the Primitive Wasp. Way to bring it back!

Also like the Black Eagle Dropper. Nice lead up to the Lion & Union.
