Overview:
Din Steiner describes the Reckoner as "a Summoner with less powerful engine".
He'll face a Trial of Greivance from the team who developed the Cloud Cobra's
new OmniMech just as soon as they find a Warrior willing to act as their proxy.
No one's holding their breath on that.
The Khan's words are a fairly accurate summation of the original concept the
actual development of the Reckoner from the Summoner has been underway for
several decades with the Cloud Cobras never quite having the resources to put
it into practise, instead favouring aerospace production where they were felt
to be more competitive. The Quicksilver project changed that and a prototype of
the current iteration was constructed within days of the announcement.
Capabilities:
Starting from the basic Summoner chassis, which has seen at least limited
production from most Clans since it was first deployed in the 2840s, the Cloud
Cobras completely revised the structure to use modern endo-steel materials and
carry an extra 1500 kg of armour.
Fitted with jumpjets and MASC, the Reckoner lacks only a little of the
Summoner's mobility while the additional armour and integral electronic
counter-measures improve the protection noticeably. The engine can't support
quite so large a coolant system, but the 21% reduction in capacity can be made
up for by modular heatsinks as needed.
Configurations will be easy for Clan Mechwarriors to recognise: they're almost
identical to the Summoner's existing configurations. The larger available
pod-space has allowed the designers to tweak each to better tailor the
heatsinks and ammunition capacity of each. With longer battles against the
Inner Sphere in mind, the Reckoner has more endurance than the notoriously
limited Summoner.
The Reckoner Prime carries a much needed extra ton of autocannon ammunition
while the Reckoner A doubles Gauss Rifle ammuniton and upgrades the SRMs to use
Artemis targeting. The Reckoner B also improves on standard SRMs, fitting
Streak technology.
The Reckoner C has the usual additonal ammunition for its autocannon but also
trades out a six-shot Streak SRM launcher for a pair of four-shots. In D
configuration the Reckoner replaces the machineguns with small pulse lasers,
retaining the anti-infantry capacity without carrying additional explosive
ammuntion.
The Reckoner E doesn't mirror an existing configuration, instead set up to
mimic a variant being used for weapons-testing by Clan Coyote. The Cloud Cobras
admit they're not sure what the Coyotes are up to so they have mixed SRMs and
LRMs for an admittedly impressive short range punch on what's otherwise a
long-range combatant.
