Awesome IIC: A Quicksliver proposal
« on: September 09, 2014, 01:50:22 PM »

Takiro said he wanted an awesome IIC, here it is.

Overview
The Quicksilver program spurred a number of trials as every clan was seeking to get technology from every other in a bid to make the most complete entrants that they could find.  Clan Blood Spirit was once limited by the fact that it could only create succession grade armor, chassis, and engines until it was able to beat down the doorsteps of other clans and sweep up storehouses and even entire manufacturing facilites from other clans.  the biggest and most daring raid was made by Emmett Vargas and his Trinary from Sigma Galaxy against the Smoke Jaguars Warhawk production facility on Huntress.  the Trial of Posession was for the entire years output of Targeting systems from the facility, but when it was discovered that all of those systems were already installed and sent off to the inner sphere, AStar Captain Vargas immediatly issued a second Trial for the facility itself.  This Double Trial resulted in extremely tough succession wars era assault mechs stomping down already battered top of the line Omnimechs, in perhaps the most humiliating defeat any jaguar had encountered since Wolcott.

Despite the loss of the Triumphant in Quicksilver, the IlKhan immediately proposed the creation of the Awesome IIC to honor now Star Colonel Vargas's determination.

Capabilities
The Awesome IIC for all of its successes, is little changed from the AWS-8Q, and this was by design to ease manufacturing, and by extension, make the mechs armor ans structural components compatible with Inner Sphere Manufactured Awesome parts.  this would make the Awesome IIC valued in home world garrison clusters as easy to repair, even if intermediaries had to be found to procure them.

Classic Awesome Armament remains in the form of three Clan Grade ERPPCs and a Small laser.  The Advanced Targeting systems now manufactured on York, (and a major source of revenue for the Spirits) provide devastating accuracy to the weapons.  enhancing the defensive capabilites of the Awesome are a quartet of A Pods, making infantry provided leg attacks suicide, and an Anti Missile system to shield the alreayd powerful Awesome further from counterfire.  Finally an ECM suite makes sure that the Awesome IIC is the only mech on the field that can use it's advanced targeting systems.

Deployment
After the failure of the Triumphant, the Awesome IIC was immediately approved for production, and is expected to be distributed heavily among the Spirit Touman.  The Fire Mandrills will be given preferential treatment for traded IICs as well, all other clans must either pay a premium or trial for the design, an effort that is expected to be difficult at best.

A nice design JP but I was going to incorporate a 3/5/3 movement profile as well as some other parts from LordGrayson and Shadow Wraith.

Busy at the moment so I will give u more details later.

I'd also love to hear from Shadow Wraith and Lord Grayson as they had the other Awesome entries.

I was trying to continue the tradition of the impenetrable brick more then anything else, and all of the extra equipment I gave the design supports that ideal.

it does not jump, it does not dance, it does not run.

IT

JUST

KEEPS

COMING

AND

SHOOTING

Your model is fantastic JP, I get where you are going. I think it is also a lot like the Blood Mantlet (LordGrayson) proposed which was a slow moving wall of death. His was a Blood Spirit-Fire Mandrill effort which got the 240 Fusion Engine from the Glass Spider. That could have been a problem since the Iron Spider is coming online for full production but still could provide further parts when needed.

Shotgun (Shadow Wraith) featured a Diamond Shark, Blood Spirit, Goliath Scorpion and Snow Raven design effort. Using the Pitban 240 Fusion Engines from ancient Rhino tanks I also thought was inspired. I also liked the jump jets he included in his entry giving the Mech added mobility.

Now I like how your story from the Triumphant of Emmet Vargas carries over on his sheer determination but I miss this;

Quote
Nearly two centuries of isolationism has worn down on many in the clans leadership, and though none were willing to directly speak out against either their leadership nor tradition in fear of damaging esprit de corps, the fact was that many command level officers in the Spirit Touman were weary and war ragged and feared for the long term future of their clan.

Brilliant stuff. That emerging from isolation can lead three different Spirit design efforts all built around the Awesome to create the Awesome IIc.

So my overall vision of all three of your designs would have featured Blood Spirit looking to build on its triple Awesome effort with a solid defender it spreads to its Fire Mandrill-Snow Raven allies, Diamond Shark marketing a replacement for the Warhammer IIc which are currently being upgraded to front line service as Glaive OmniMechs, and Goliath Scorpion recognizing the need scrounging up some parts from the Rhino and ancient Awesome's for its own salvage "production" line.

Now the only thing I would add design wise is Jump Jets. LordGrayson used EndoSteel on his entry which I do not see as an easy build on existing Awesomes while Shadow Wraith used Ferro Fibrous which is more plausible. But your entry only has 4 critical spaces remaining opened so no easy Ferro fix there. So if you take off 2 A Pods and a ton of armor you could fit 3 jump jets. Thoughts?

Just for in realm the Blood Spirits actually used battle reports about the Marik Awesome build to come up with this loadout but didn't want to admit to basing a design even just a weapons load out on a IS mech.

As for the armor over the Int Str , With a non Omni mech I'd go with the armor as it was with that load out I actually had to do some thinking on how to use all that pod space and still be a legal design. I think with the armor switched to FF and the Endo removed u just have to remove one of the SSRM 4's and I think U got enough weight left to add a ER Small Laser in its place :) . Also I think when it comes to Slow assault mechs yes Jump Jets are almost a given as needed to help it even a little bit against lighter faster machines.

if Jump Jets are an absolute must, and they really are not, I would sooner shed another heat sink, the AMS and Small laser.

I avoided all advanced construction materiels cause I wanted this mech to be rock simple to build.

as far as the low morale of the Spirit Clan, I was trying to portray the Spirits tired of being Victims, particularly of Adder and Burrock aggression, and how they went from being the moral center of the clans to being a kid with no friends or allies or being taken seriously.  hence the portrayal of the Spirits in the Awesome IIC entry was suppoused to indicate a "coming out" of sorts, evidence that the Spirits were strong, and could be stronger if they only embraced thier role in the larger universe.

I like JPArbiter's version.

I do too!

Not bad either LordGrayson but JP has the ECM and AMS which add to the defenses of the Mech wish I love and should certainly be included. If I had to use one or the other it would be Ferro Fibrous over EndoSteel just cause you could use older Awesomes easier in IIc conversions. Again JP makes a solid point about being simple as possible limiting any such materials.

It is my goal to have the Spirits emerge from isolation and work with others. That is why past designs and this one should also have other Clans included who the Blood Spirits are finally working with.

Well Star League in Exile likely took a few hundred awesomes along with them during their road trip but most likely placed them into storage since well it was a pretty slow and not really great machine compared to their other choices of assault mechs .
But then came the Clan's of old saint Nic and still likely keep those awesomes all in storage but after a few decades/centurys some clan's down on there luck go looking into their supply shed and find the base awesome and go well lets upgrade it to current tech and see if its useful and so along comes the original AWESOME II C

switches out the PPC's for 3 Clan ER Large Lasers and some additional heat sinks now its got 37 heatsinks and 3 ER L.L's and its trusty ER small

A little later a clan not so down on its luck gives it FF armor with more HS's for the AWE IIC-B

Now some stupid clan came and made the improved PPC and of course the awesome going to get upgraded to use theses
so Here comes AWE IIC C Double Heat sinks and ER PPC's this thing looks like  JPArbiter's version largely just minus the ECM mainly Clan's don't like sneaky things and rarely put ECM on anything until the Inner Sphere reminds them its wise to put it on it. Along the way some sub variants come according to the clan some with FF armor others with Jump Jets( really its what ea clan likes).
Well now the clan's in 3052 have comes to the IS and well (not sure since this is Tak's realm but in cannon only thing that stopped the clan's was a suicidal Aerospace fight) since at the time the Clan was largely kicking butt and taking names with only a few minor defeats to speak of I don't think they really going to worry about putting ECM on a mech.
Now we jump ahead a decade and Well JP's mech shines very brightly since my god the IS has taught the Clan'ers and there overblown pride a thing or two about being sneaking and what a ECM is good for.

On a side note I just noticed this things going to go head to head with the MAD IIC(not sure who makes those) with its similar loadouts

ECM for the clans represents not stealthiness, but a leveling of the playing field, it prevents other clanners from trying to use technology to make up for a lack of skill vis a view Artimes FCS, Streak Missiles, or favoring a Warhawk cause they all have targeting computers.

for the Blood Spirits, who are resource starved and need to be able to compete, ECM would be a vital resource to ensure they can stand up against more advanced machines.

70-tons of death and destruction with three ER PPCs, an ER Small Laser, and an ECM Suite moving at 4/6/0.  11 tons of ferro-fibrous armor gives an Armor Value of 211 . . . or ~97% of max coverage.  It is a wee bit oversinked with twenty-four doubles (max dissipation of 48 and you generate 47 on a running assault with all three Peepers).  But add in that ER Small Laser and you are heat neutral on a run.

And the second design incorporating an XL engine:

Same tonnage, same armor, same weapons, equipment, and heat sinks.  But this one moves at 5/8/0.  It is twice as expensive, sure, but that little speed boost might well be worth it.

Neither carries a Targeting Computer, but you could get one by dropping four DHS . . . giving you max heat of 49 (47 w/o the ERSL) versus a dissipation of 40.  Since you don't carry explosive ammo anyway . . .

:)

Anyway, that is what I've got.

Of course, if it is a Blood Spirit design, they might instead consider a whole lot of THESE:

Code: [Select]
Eviscerator

Mass: 65 tons
Tech Base: Clan
Motive Type: Tracked
Rules Level: Tournament Legal
Era: Clan Invasion
Tech Rating/Era Availability: F/X-X-C
Production Year: 3052
Cost: 3,225,750 C-Bills
Battle Value: 1,536

Power Plant:  195 Fusion Engine
Cruise Speed: 32.4 km/h
Flanking Speed: 54.0 km/h
Armor:  Ferro-Fibrous
Armament:
    2  ER PPCs
    1 Unknown Targeting Computer
    1  ECM Suite
Manufacturer:
    Primary Factory:
Communications System:
Targeting and Tracking System:

================================================================================
Equipment           Type                         Rating                   Mass

Internal Structure: Standard                      28 points                6.50
Engine:             Fusion Engine                195                      12.00
    Cruise MP:  3
    Flank MP:   5
Heat Sinks:         Single Heat Sink             30                       20.00
Control Equipment:                                                         3.50
Lift Equipment:                                                            0.00
Armor:              Ferro-Fibrous                AV - 134                  7.00

                                               Front     60
                                          Left/Right   25/25
                                                Rear     24

================================================================================

2 ER PPCs                                    FR        30        2        12.00
Targeting Computer                           BD        -         1         3.00
ECM Suite                                    BD        0         1         1.00

BattleForce Statistics
MV      S (+0)  M (+2)  L (+4)  E (+6)   Wt.   Ov   Armor:      4    Points: 15
3          4       4       4       0      3     0   Structure:  2
Special Abilities: ECM, ENE

Only two ER PPCs and it is slow and lacks a turret . . . but that front armor is THICK and it has a targeting computer, plus an ECM.  AND it costs just over 3.2 million C-Bills . . . less than half the price of my 4/6/0 Awesome IIC or JPs 3/5/0 Awesome IIC.  Since the Spirits use vehicles in their Touman fairly extensively (not as much as the Horses, but a full Trinary in every Cluster!), it would make an . . . (wait for it) . . . awesome defensive garrison unit.

Interesting options. So far the only IIC that has been inspired by Quicksilver that dramatically drops weight is the Black Knight. The Wasp IIC actually adds weight. What I like about most of the Quicksilver IICs so far they concentrate on working with what the Clans have. They are really mobilizing their strength to complete the invasion.

not all IICs change weight, look at the Urbanmech, Commando, Guillotine, Orion, Highlander, Clint, Hunchback, and Wyvern.

I am dismissing the Wolfhound IIC cause it is a unique mech and the Dervish IIC cause it is Acrophyl, as well as anything developed after the clan invasion.  the argument really stands that there are just as many if not more IICs that keep the mass the same rather then change it.
