BattleMaster IIC: Lord of the Battlefield
« on: October 16, 2012, 12:30:13 AM »

BattleMaster IIC

Designed by Clan Star Adder, the BattleMaster IIC is a rare and expensive war-machine only seldom seen amongst the Clan toumans.  This design uses a weapons layout that follows that of the original BLR-1G almost exactly, on a slightly smaller chassis, and with modern Clan systems as well.  But in addition to that, it is a formidable electronic warfare BattleMech and contains a Command Console . . . an piece of equipment more myth and legend than reality among the Clans of Kerensky.

Built on an 80-ton frame of endo-steel II internal structure, the BattleMaster IIC was only slightly less massive than its predecessor.  The Adders utilized twelve and one-half tons of ferro-fibrous armor plating, giving their new second-line command BattleMech slightly more armor protection than the original.  The right and left torso feature a shade less armor, but the arms are slightly better, the center torso remains the same, and the legs have been greatly strengthened.  The rear armor also had to be reduced slightly, but is still considered quite sufficient.

The single largest change in the design was added next:  a 400-rate Extra-Light Fusion Engine.  This engine boosted the design to maximum speeds of 86.4 kilometers per hour (54 kph walking) allowing it to keep up with the main line of Clan heavy OmniMechs and BattleMechs in combat.  Adder Warriors assigned to this machine are impressed with the fast pace and maneuverability of the design and have urged the Khans to retain it in full.  Fourteen double-strength heat sinks are housed within the engine and provide some (but not all) of the heat dissipation required.

The primary (and only) long-range weapon is an ER PPC in the right arm.  For close-in work, the design is equipped with a Streak SRM-6 launcher (15 salvoes of ammunition), six ER Medium Lasers (three in each torso, one in each torso mounted to fire to the rear), and two AP Gauss Rifles for anti-personnel work (40 bursts total) in the left arm.  The design carries enough heat sinks to run and fire every short-range weapon system for zero net heat production.  Adding the ER PPC results in a large heat spike and is not recommended.  The inclusion of the rear-firing weapons takes many in both the Clans and the Inner Sphere by surprise, and the firepower projected is not insignificant by any stretch of the imagination.

With five tons remaining, the design team added an Active Probe (right torso) and an ECM Suite (left torso), giving the BattleMaster IIC better sensors and jamming capabilites.  Last, but not least, the Scientists added a three-ton Command Console to the BattleMechs head.  Although utilized by some Cluster and Galaxy Commanders to coordinate their forces, the Adders more often than not assign a technician or scientist to the 2nd seat, coordinating communications and data-feeds through the instrumentation.  In cases where an actual Warrior is assigned, he is often given control of the rear-firing lasers to partially compensate for being a glorified passenger.

Only latest BattleMaster IIC-2s are equipped with the recently introduced AP Gauss Rifles.  Prior models featured two machine-guns with a half ton of ammunition and a TAG system in the left arm.

Found primarily among the Adders, the BattleMaster IIC is rare even there.  Only a handful have made their way to other Clans and many conservative Warriors refuse to pilot one, seeing the Command Console as an insult to Nicholas Kerensky himself.  However, Clan Wolf does use at least half-a-dozen BattleMaster IICs in their second-line units . . . Clan Wolf in Exile is known to possess two more confirmed units as well.

I like it. Looks like it is time for Trial of Possession by Clan Fennec.

...There was already a BattleMaster IIC, wasn't there?  From one of the books, with a character named Nelson Geist - the one where the Falcons are imitating the 'Red Corsair'.

there is the Battlemaster C a Jade Falcon built Battlemaster from the captured Red Devil Industries for thier second line forces that uses a HAG 30, ATM 6 and bevy of medium lasers tied to a targeting computer.

there is also the BLR-1G "Red Corsair" Battlemaster which is a Clan version of the SLDF Royal 1Gb Model.

this is unique and cool because it packs a command console, and is an assault rocking a 5/8, but my preference for the Royal Model overrides it.

BattleTech products aren't Pokemon Cards. You don't have to catch, or collect them all.
