-
Are you put out all the designs??? ???
-
ya, as i found the pics and various write ups. the most frustrating mech so far is the achilles.
-
Yeah a lot of good stuff!
-
What is the problem with the Achilles? That is my super favorite mech.
-
i cannont find a write up on it. though i have the Battletechnology magazine writeup scanned and saved i can not find it in any of the long defunct TRO websites i am depending on where the write up was done. ill just post the scanned image i guess.
-
Hmm, don't remember the Achilles. Great job wolfcannon. Thanks for reposting all the BattleTechnology stuff, very interesting and idea creating. ;)
-
I have that particular issue . I could email you the info .

If you're referring to the Earthwerk Industries ACH-09S Achilles featured in Battletechnology issue #18, maybe I can assist you.
I designed the Achilles, and still have the original line art, write-up, and technical details. There were some editorial changes made before the issue was published (Pacific Rim objected to my referring to Gauss Rifles as "Mass Driver Cannons"), but other than that, the design specs haven't changed since 1992.
Ironically, I don't have that issue. I swear at one time I had an omnibus version collecting several issues (including the article in question), but I haven't been able to find it in years and fear it is lost.

Wow You wrote that. I love the Achilles in urban battles I rocked. May I get a copy of said items.
-
YES please. *bows to master* please o great one.

That was the only design I ever got published. I did the Achilles story with artwork for issue #18, plus they asked me to illustrate another story about the Stalking Rhinos mercenary unit, which I did. I can't remember which issue it's in (this was March of 1992 - nearly 20 years ago), but the art style is very similar to what I did for Achilles, so it would be pretty easy to spot if I saw it. Pacific Rim never paid me, so as far as I'm concerned, the contract is broken, Hilary Ayer owes me $190, and the rights to that design are mine.
They actually have (or, at least, had) all the originals. Of the artwork you saw in the magazine, all I could find was a copy of the Achilles drawing before I added the shading.
All is not lost, however. The mech underwent two name changes before we settled on "Achilles" - "Devastator" and "Colossus" having already been taken by other units somewhere in the mythos. I still have my original pencil drawing of "Devastator", as well as the tech readout before Pacific Rim made me I agreed to change the main weapons systems from "Mass Driver Cannons" (a nod to one of FASA's other games, Renegade Legion) to "Gauss Rifles".
... and in other exciting news, while going through a box of 1st Edition AD&D books that I hadn't looked through in years, I actually found Battletechnology #18. I didn't realize I had drawn so many pictures (three, if memory serves) to illustrate the story. Sadly, my joy was short-lived, as an exhaustive search of the house tonight turned up no trace of said magazine.

OK. Got the scanner hooked up.
Achilles line art (http://www.peteandkellie.com/images/battletech/achilles_line_drawing.jpg) prior to shading.
Original "Devastator" (http://www.peteandkellie.com/images/battletech/devastator_tech_readout.jpg) design. Eventually renamed, and drawing cleaned up in ink for publication.

Eh, she's still out there. Probably has your work in her portfolio.
