Hey One person humbly asking at a time Wolfcannon . Oh Did you do any other mechs psiekier ??
That was the only design I ever got
published. I did the Achilles story with artwork for issue #18, plus they asked me to illustrate another story about the Stalking Rhinos mercenary unit, which I did. I can't remember which issue it's in (this was March of 1992 - nearly 20 years ago), but the art style is very similar to what I did for Achilles, so it would be pretty easy to spot if I saw it. Pacific Rim never paid me, so as far as I'm concerned, the contract is broken, Hilary Ayer owes me $190, and the rights to that design are
mine.
They actually have (or, at least,
had) all the originals. Of the artwork you saw in the magazine, all I could find was a copy of the Achilles drawing before I added the shading.
All is not lost, however. The mech underwent two name changes before we settled on "Achilles" - "Devastator" and "Colossus" having already been taken by other units somewhere in the mythos. I still have my original pencil drawing of "Devastator", as well as the tech readout before
Pacific Rim made me I agreed to change the main weapons systems from "Mass Driver Cannons" (a nod to one of FASA's other games,
Renegade Legion) to "Gauss Rifles".
... and in other exciting news, while going through a box of 1st Edition AD&D books that I hadn't looked through in years, I actually found
Battletechnology #18. I didn't realize I had drawn so many pictures (three, if memory serves) to illustrate the story. Sadly, my joy was short-lived, as an exhaustive search of the house tonight turned up no trace of said magazine.
