BEL-3R Bellephron
« on: November 03, 2012, 11:52:24 PM »

Overview
The Rim Commonality after the jihad found itself with one majore deficit.  it completly lacked any sort of defensive manufacturing capability.  While courting the Clean Kill and Chaos Irregulars went a long way towards alleviating any concerns for the short term, the need to provide for the small nations defense for the long term took priority.  it was the so called "Vlar Plan" developed by Colonel Ariel Perigrine-Simson that led to the construction of a full series of battlemechs meant to be cheap, efficent, and use the same engine, the nearly ubiquitous VLAR 300.  the proof of concept of the line was a revival of the age of war Bellephron

Capabilities
The modern Rim Commonality Bellephron started in much the same way as the Shootist of the Star League Era.  after the engine came providing effective armor coverage to ensure the best possible protection of the pilot.  as a result every single frontal location can endure a hit from an assault grade autocannon.  Weaponry did not stray far from the age of war classic.  the twin large lasers were replaced with a more modern heavy PPC.  a Short Range Missile 4 pack. was retained from the classic design as well, though CASE was added for the benefit of pilot protection.

the biggest updates the the Bellephron are to it's internal systems.  with the benefit of half a millenium of hindsight, the new Bellephron lacks any of the balance issues of it's progenitor, and the updated appearance gives the machine a suillouete more like a bulkier Lynx then it does a miniaturized Mackie.  what the design does lack is proper cooling.  the 14 heat sinks are not sufficent for running and gunning battles, requiring the pilot of a 3R to lay off the cannon every 30 seconds.

Deployment
the First company of Bellephrons rolled off the assembly line on Lesnovo.  two lances of these machies are being sent to Colonel Perigines 1st Rim Commonality Guard, while the remaining 4 are being deployed to Niops as a technology and mutual defense trade.

The Rim Association (Rim Commonality+Niops Association) in my AU could use a Mech like that  ;)

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

in the FWL Objectives pdf, it pretty much says that the Rim Commonality, Niops association and Astrokhastzy  are doing the long term mutual trade and defense thing.

I took one step further in AU made A ravaged Niops part of the Rim Commonality only for the former FWL state to find Niops had a lot more to offer hence the name change
