Overview:
Requested by the DCMS to try to fill the gap between their Panther and Dragon
battlemechs, the Toritetsu was developed as a prototype by LAW.
Capabilities:
Capable of keeping up with a Dragon and bringing useful long range firepower to
bear, the Toritetsu has superior close range firepower and designers felt it
would be useful as an escort to the heavier 'Mechs, able to provide covering
fire for lance mates that needed to withdraw and reload.
Battle History:
The handful of operational prototypes were pressed into service facing the
Davion counter-offensive of 2801-2807. The Toritetsu reportedly performed
adequately against AFFS Shadow Hawk and Dervish BattleMechs in open field
engagements. However, their weak armour left them unable to endure the
firepower their lance-mates in Dragons could survive.
Deployment:
The Toritetsu was scheduled to be put into production, but resource shortfalls
during the First Succession War led to the project being delayed and eventually
cancelled as resources were diverted to repair damaged factories rather than
building new ones.
