The Durendal is definitely opposite thinking for the Large Pulse Laser concept. Big and slow if it gets the Clans to fight where it desires than you certainly have something but its sort of a one trick pony. Lets say you get your wish and the Clans fight you in a city setting. The Hatchet is a dishonorable physical weapon to them not to mention if they lose or even come close to losing their gonna cry about it and never want to fight one of these things fair ever again. Plus you get into a ranged fight and your dead. I hear ya the Large Pulse is short ranged, and your right this does belong here. Is this a more effective weapons platform than a smaller faster Mech though?

Not bad Abele with those Lancelot mods. The first one is a bit much though with 4 Large Pulses and only 28 Heat Sinked so your too far gone on the overheat scale for me. The second one is more practical and meets my first design in terms of speed with Large Pulses. Would you rather have this 60 tonner or my original 35?

I was playing with an 80 tonner last night with a 400 XL Engine, 16 Double Heat Sinks, max armor, EndoSteel, which was armed with three Large Pulse Lasers. Fast but I don't know if a 27 point hitting assault Mech is really worth it??

The Durendal is definitely a one trick pony- I admitted that in the fluff.  That said if the Comstar forces honor the Batchall - i.e. declare their actual forces- I am not sure how the Clans would respond to getting torn up by the Durendal.  I don't think using a physical attack is enough to get the Clans to give up the Batchall or fight all out.

That said I don't know if this is more effective then a faster mech.  I can see the Durendal being assigned to dedicated Urban defense units- much like the idea behind the Urbanmech or Hatchetman.  On an open battlefield this design is toast.

As the ComGuards forces rebuild following the singularly largest battle in recent history. Many of their more advanced designs are being removed from protective details and moved into the armies rearming and training on Tukayyid. Purchasing, trading and removing from mothballs many designs. The ComGuards have designated two designs as pacifiers. Removing the ballistic weapons commonly seen on both the Hunchback and Urbanmech and instead upgrading with them with their large stockpile of Large Pulse Lasers.

Well the Large Pulse Laser would definitely have applications in an urban environment. It is pretty impressive to note that a direct shot from an Large Pulse will not even penetrate the armor of an Elemental. They would be an unholy terror against standard infantry and conventional armor though perhaps reducing collateral damage to the surrounding area.

Your Hunchback and UrbanMech (not yet on that design gang) are nice accomplices to the Durendal if ComStar goes all city fighter Bradshaw. You just need a Heavy Mech to run all the weight classes. The UrbanMech (and to a lesser extent the Hunchback) is almost the exact opposite of my original Pulsator concept. Do you think speed isn't that important when trying to use these weapons??

I think it depends on how you plan to deploy the mech.  If you want to use it in open territory then speed is more important.  If the mech is designed to fight in a city then it is less important.

Exactly normally I would want speed to get within range but these designs are built to sit around hpgs and protect targets. At most pacify rowdy mobs and bandits

Alrighty then, are there any other concepts for the InnerSphere Large Pulse? Uses we have overlooked? Platforms to be considered?

Just wanted to bump this again to see if we have any other concepts in the wings. Still grading the Spiders which may get some major work done tomorrow. Remember comments and entries are all welcomed here!

A variant seen in testing alongside its sister variant the 115. This variant stays true to the original weapon load of the 114. Instead it replaces the traditional Large Laser with a Pulse variant for an increased accuracy in its dogfighting scenarios. Due to the increased load in the nose the designers have split the LRM 10 into 2 separate LRM 5 systems and moved them into the designs wings. To make up for the increase in weapon tonnage a ton of armor was dropped but replaced by Ferro-Aluminum to maintain its armor coverage.

Last for me unless inspiration strikes.

Seldom talked about is the massive losses suffered on Tukayyid by Comstars conventional fighter forces. Taking a design from the Terran Hegemony database and upgrading it with modern day technologies has brought back the infantryman's favorite friend the ground support conventional fighter the Warthog. Armed with a Large Pulse Laser to mow down apposing infantry. The design is armed with twin LRM 5's for engaging opposing fighters or other targets at long ranges. If those aren't sufficient to do the job twin SRM 4s loaded with inferno rounds will literally rain down the fire upon opponents heads.

First off, love the ComStar picture. Where did you find that?

I figured you were going to give me a strafing machine and that may have its place here but I found your Warthog a tad bit too slow. Also does the ComGuard even use conventional fighters? It is an interesting concept.

Your Zero is a better option in my opinion.

Warthog is a slow plane. But Yeah after it was done not 100 percent happy with it. Picture was made by a guy on Facebook page all he did was change the robe to white and superimposed the costar logo on it. Wanted to show it but not create new thread so thought humorous to put here.
