Overview:
The Discovery class BattleMech was commissioned in 2962 by Primus Adrienne Sims after the establishment of the Explorer Corps to assist in the charting and cataloging of worlds beyond the Periphery. Named after the 17th century explorers Henry Hudson’s famous ship. The Discovery fits an unique role within our order.

With Primus Sims’s visions about a true threat to ComStar coming from outside the borders of the Inner Sphere she was shrewd to use a portion of her funding requests to include the building of a new factory on Terra for the Discovery class BattleMech.

Incorporating the blueprints of the Marco class IndustrialMech whose design was never well received by any of its pilots and its limited numbers due to only 10 years of being in production. Our engineers decided to upgrade to a BattleMech chassis and include improvements upon it which through the test of time have shown repeatedly that it serves its role with in its search of the deep periphery.

Weapons and Equipment
Due to its spending extended time in the field exploring devastated and unexplored worlds. The design team upgraded the minimum weaponry of the old Marco design of a singular small laser to include twin Medium Lasers for any larger foes and a small pulse laser for smaller foes. Backed by a single flamer for brush removal and scaring off large game.

The heart of the design is really the equipment it carries. The 'Mech features a salvage arm in its left arm, a three-ton cargo bay in both its right and left torso, and a search light mounted in its left torso that can illuminate up to 1,000 yards. Twin Remote Sensor Dispensers which are located in both left and right torsos assist in expanding the explorer team's sensor radius and an impressive communication system that can reach out to most nadir or zenith jump points to report its findings.

Variants
No commonly seen variants.

Design Quirks
  • Compact 'Mech
  • Improved Communications
  • Improved Sensors
  • Rumble Seat
  • Difficult Ejection

I like it :) Nice background and design, very specialized but good at what it does.  Seek out new life and new places to exploit! For comstar of course :p
