Emperor EMP-6D
« on: November 04, 2017, 06:17:59 AM »

Since I remain focused on the 28th century, here's a possible variant that might slip into the history of the venerable Emperor assault 'Mech.

Emperor EMP-6D

Mass: 90 tons
Tech Base: Inner Sphere
Chassis Config: Biped
Rules Level: Tournament Legal
Era: Age of War/Star League
Tech Rating/Era Availability: E/D-F-E-A
Production Year: 2735
Cost: 17,755,500 C-Bills
Battle Value: 1,882

Chassis: Titan Super TZ-7EA Standard
Power Plant: PlasmaStar 270 Fusion XL Engine
Walking Speed: 32.4 km/h
Maximum Speed: 54.0 km/h
Jump Jets: Pitban LFT-50
    Jump Capacity: 90 meters
Armor: ArcShield VII Mk 5 Standard Armor w/ CASE
Armament:
    2 KaliYama Class 10 Autocannon/10s
2 Magna Mk III Large Lasers
3 Magna Mk II Medium Lasers
Manufacturer: StarCorps Industries
    Primary Factory: Crofton
Communications System: Telestar Model XTD- 67A
Targeting and Tracking System: Starlight Seeker LX-4X

Overview:
Long a standby of the HAF, the Emperor was revitalised for the SLDF in 2612
with the EMP-6A entering production for the Royal regiments.

Many older Emperors had been handed over to the militaries of the great houses
during the Reunification War and they continued to see action on occasional
clashes. In 2732, First Prince Richard Davion requested that Star Corps provide
a model improved over the -5A models in service, adopting as much of the
available technology as they could without violating the SLDF's security.

Capabilities:
The EMP-5D shares most of its chassis with its cousin in SLDF service,
including the lightweight engine and improved ammunition bins. Since the SLDF
remained adamant on not releasing the advanced armaments, Star Corps replaced
the Imperator Code Red autocannon and medium lasers with a KaliYama Class 10
autocannon and Magna Mk II medium lasers, which were readily available.

Battle History:
The EMP-5D Emperor saw limited service against the Capellan Confederation
between 2760 and 2762. After 2767, the SLDF activated contractual clauses with
StarCorps that gave them access to the production and a significant number
faced off against the forces of Amaris in the Terran Hegemony.

A stepping stone between standard and royal

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

Yep. I'd included it in unit listings but realised there was nothing between the 5A, which is out of production, and the 6A, which is SLDF only (and largely Royal at that). So I created the 6D to sit between the two.

I think I have the same idea somewhere laying around. I always liked the Emperor and as the second BattleMech design ever it seems it should get a little more love.

I did consider stripping the jump-jets, the CASE and half a ton of armour to give it a SFE engine, but this way a simple weapon-swap can turn the 6D into a 6A, which might be useful as an option.

The XL while advanced tech wouldn’t help the Mech too much against SL designs their better guns would help out shoot it

I’d be tempted to drop the double heats purely from a jealous SL standpoint since on a Mech with standard guns they really do add to the fighting potential
