Exterminator Z [MW: The Wars of Reaving]
« on: July 26, 2013, 08:52:05 PM »

EXTERMINATOR Z
Intro Date: 3071
Obsolete: 3075

Overview
The initial onslaught waged by the Society was effective due to several key factors. Central to their combat doctrine was the complete disruption of the Clans' command structure. Utilizing hyper-advanced ECM suites and targeting networks, inexperienced warriors under the command of Scientist-General Ricarda Remer easily overran the Diamond Sharks' elite warriors on Babylon. Society commanders accurately surmised that Clan warriors would fight to the death when cut off from all communications. When the confused and isolated 'Mechs finally recognized their position as untenable, the noose had already been tightened.

Crucial to this strategy was identifying and killing the senior commander in each unit. This task was initially assigned to the few functional Exterminator BattleMechs whose stealth equipment remained intact. Although ancient and ineffective by modern standards, the heat baffles and mimetic camouflage were a capable means of negating the Clan warriors' advantages in reconnaissance and gunnery. After the initial successes on Babylon and Ironhold, combat losses depleted the number of operational Exterminators, forcing a tough decision on the Society's leadership whether to allocate resources to the production of new models.

Fortunately, the Scientists found a willing ally in Khan Silas Kufahl, who took up the project under the guise of completing the reformation of his Touman. A separate production line was constructed at the Zuni 'Mech Production Facility to produce the chassis and power plant, while the rest would be assembled by Society technicians on Strana Mechty and Tanis. Since the parts were unidentifiable in their disassembled form, the shipments would slip by DropShip crews and unsympathetic warriors who were unaware of their true mission.

Capabilities
One of the few advantages the Society had in its early days were the abundance of materiels made available by Clan Coyote. When technicians began development of the Exterminator chassis, the large extra-light power plant from the original design specifications was determined to be too expensive to produce. A ready replacement was found in the less-powerful 325-rated engine, already manufactured en masse for the Coyotes' Hellbringer. Though the reduced output lowered the ground speed of the Exterminator, the jump capabilities could be increased to offset the difference and provide a truly nimble machine for its weight.

Although the exterior chassis is based on the Hegemony's Royal upgrade, the weapons load out is closer to the original Exterminator which was made available to SLDF line regiments. Retaining only its Chameleon Light Polarization Shield, Society engineers ascertained that the stealth abilities of the Nova suite would render the Null-Signature System redundant and promptly removed it from the blueprints. Replacing the original LRM rack are six tubes of the highly advanced iATM-6 weapon system, fed by three tons of various munitions. Four medium pulse lasers round out the upgrades and give the new Exterminator deadly accurate fire against its opponents.

Deployment
Most of these battlefield phantoms were used in hunter-killer Treys or as guard units for the Scientist leadership. The majority of the 'Mechs were assigned to the most skilled warriors the Society had to offer; typically defectors from Clan Coyote or members of clone sibkos throughout Clanspace. Though nearly every cell possessed a few examples of the Exterminator, only one chassis had been delivered to the Inner Sphere prior to the HPG blackout. Piloted by a clone by the name of 'Nimbus Pryde,' the machine was destroyed in the final battle on Etienne's Sanctuary.

By 3074, the Exterminator proved to be taxing on the Society's limited resources and production was ceased. The serial numbers of less than 50 examples were found in Society records after the Wars of Reaving, all of which were destroyed in combat or dismantled after the war. Along with the Cephalus, the Exterminator Z remains only other machine to be banned by the Grand Council in the post-Reaving period.

I like it and the art work may use myself

One nit-pick the Society didn't have Clones they were standard sibkos but trained to Society standards, failed Clan warriors trained by Clans, volunteers from the Clans or slaves controlled by drugs

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

The Society certainly had clone sibkos. :) It's described in detail in the novel I Am Jade Falcon and they touch on it a bit in the Wars of Reaving book. Etienne Balzac was stealing the genetic material of dead Warriors and cloning them in secret sibkos. He took the project with him when he was exiled to Etienne's Sanctuary, but there's nothing to say the rest of the Society didn't utilize the practice.

From what we saw in the novel Freebirth, the Smoke Jaguars maintained a cache of other Clans' genetic materials as well. So it's very possible this was not isolated to Jade Falcon's Scientist caste.

They may use the material but by in large they aren't classed as Clones (although they are very similar i think they were trying to avoid the obvious similarity with SW) there not bred to adult form so not true clones.  Maybe genetically they are but the bodies are pure flesh and blood raised to their own experiences

I'd see them as Twins instead of Clones genetically the same but with different lives

We're talking about the same thing.

Clan Trueborn warriors take their DNA from two gene parents. They're then grown in a vat, nursed in the canister and 'hatched' in large batches. Clones have the exact, same origin.

Clan breeding: [Tania Pryde] + [Ramon Mattlov] = Tania Pryde-Ramon Mattlov Sibko
Society cloning: [Aidan Pryde] + [Aidan Pryde] = Aidan Pryde Sibko

The only difference is that the clones possess only one gene parent. They're not cross-bred; they're a genetic copy of their donor. They won't look 100% the same, but will strongly resemble the donor and have some of his/her skills.

Star Wars doesn't use science at all. What they call "cloning" is more like putting someone into a copying machine. That's not what happened with the Society.
