Sure. But with the OC-1X I was trying to replicate the original Orca from TRO: Project Omega as closely as possible. And the basic theme of the OC-2A was "The same, only more so.".

I'd love to see what a total Munchkin who contemptuously laughs in the face of Game Balance could do with superheavies. ;D

Can anybody reading this recommend a freeware 'Mech designer program that lets you build superheavy 'Mechs?

Bradshaw might have a suggestion. I know he's used a few different programs. Not sure if they have Super Heavies though. . .

Sorry haven't been on here much last week or so.

Megamek allows for superheavies. If you need help with it let me know.

I installed MegaMek a couple of weeks ago, but so far I haven't been able to make head nor tail of its menu structure! How do I open the list of existing designs?

Megamek is the game

Did you download megameklab? Its the component that does designs. MekHQ is the Merc or unit system very complicated but extremely detailed for those that do campaigns.

The version I downloaded claimed it incorporated both. I'm starting to wonder if it was telling the truth about that. >:(

Edit:
Or I suppose it's possible I might have clicked on the wrong link. I'll try again tomorrow. Right now I'm too tired.

Well, on the second attempt I've finally gotten MegaMekLab up and running. It looks like I must have simply clicked on the wrong download link a couple of weeks ago. :P

I'm tempted to try to save face by saying that it was a mistake anybody could have made, but I won't. Even if that might actually be true, it really should have occurred to me that it might be the case a lot sooner than it actually did. So... my bad, plain and simple. :(

Thanks for putting me on the right track at last, Bradshaw! :)

I've been doing a little experimenting with MML to get used to using it and I couldn't resist the urge to try building a totally over-the-top Superheavy. :)

Glad you got it to work

The difference between 150 and a 200 tonner in terms of free tonnage isn't much with 2/3 speed I did this one back when experimented with them. Could have been a little better, but figured a Quad is a logical base for something experimental at this tonnage.

Nothing particularly innovative about this one. It's designed after the Blakist War to be a symbol of FedCom unity, incorporating a quintessentially Steiner weapon and a quintessentially Davion one. Sophisticated electronics make it valuable as a command 'Mech too.

It's built on a modified version of the chassis used by the ALI-3O Alliance OmniMech from earlier in this thread, which means in turn that the head assembly is very similar visually to that of the BLR-1G BattleMaster.

Oh, I'm sure I'll be coming up with a few more. But the Olympian was just me letting my inner Munchkin out for a change. There's no fluff for it because I might never actually be able to fit it into my AU anywhere. The main purpose of this thread is to give some individual attention to some of the better conventional 'Mechs from the "freebie giveaway" folder. The Unifier is the only one of those I can recall offhand that I came up with a new name for, but it's basically just a modified Alliance. And the Alliance itself is just a heavier BattleMaster.

The truth is, in my own estimation, I'm not really imaginative enough for me to have much confidence in my own ability to design anything really new. I just tinker with existing designs for the most part.
