Fuel Cell 'Mechs
« on: July 01, 2020, 02:57:12 PM »

Similar to my ICE Mechs these FCE (Fuel Cell Engine) Mechs will be rolling out soon. I was thinking that these maybe a Hanse Davion effort to completely outnumber the Clans after seeing how RetroMechs are proliferating through the Periphery. Please feel free to discuss the pros and cons as you post designs for review!

Looks like I will go first with what I call the Basic Guard it is meant to guard locations which might be raided but do not need regular battlemechs 24/7. Also it need technicians which are not as heavily trained as the regular battlemech technicians, it also would be a good way to train technicians in the field for regular battlemechs. This makes the Basic Guard something which would be found in the outback of the Federated Suns

Thanks for kicking off the design entry portion of the next part of Salient Horizon's RetroMech series David CGB! There is a lot here to discuss so let me try to cover as much as I can here.

- Technicians. I was thinking of RetroMechs as a good way to train Mechwarriors while amplifying your force strength but you are right David CGB that training for Techs would be another benefit of these Primitive War Machines.

- Myomers. Without initially considering it these might be the most advanced pieces of technology that compose any 'Mech. Myomers were invented 2350 while the Fusion Engine was created in 2021 (here's hoping for this next year!). Yes, the Fusion Engine took years to modernize into its current form and 'Primitive' versions may be available but out of every component you need to create a Mech might these 'advanced muscles' might be the most advanced. Would this inhibit our project? Our the canon RetroTech models??

- Hercules Project. Where Salient Horizon kicked off RetroMechs will be this Marian developmental endeavor which is aided by certain groups (renegade Blakists and Taurians) with great technical expertise. This is a clear departure from canon which forbids any non-Fusion BattleMech. So our designs here may differ in regards to rules.

- New Dallas Memory Core. While butterflies are flapping hard in the Salient Horizon universe I was planning on having Hanse Davion 'know' of the location of certain fixed objects such as Star League caches. People may change more rapidly then you can anticipate but no such luck with massive finds like on New Dallas. The early discovery of this core should forward many technologies including older RetroTech ones.

- Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vs. Fuel Cell Engines (FCE). On its face I am really looking forward to seeing what the fuel cell can do as the ICE Mechs were really limited in some aspects as to what they can do.

So please discuss, love to hear what everyone thinks!

starting with Myomers I will express my thoughts  Myomers, I thought you could have a number of grades of myomers, as they had talked about medical grade in Lost Destiny, why could there not be retro grade myomers which could have one of two flaws one much less powerful, or two takes up twice as much space. Now I would rather have takes up twice as much space as the flaw for this primitive myomers, which would mean that they can not carry as many weapons due to smaller amounts of space I.E nothing in the legs and arms can only carry four open spaces.

New Dallas Memory Core, why not find a number of non military technical manuals which could then be used to improve the military. Lets say Hanse Davion went down to visit some of his relatives, sat down on what was thought to be solid stone, but turns out to have a chamber, which then has sealed boxes with information on Fuel Cell Engines and other types of technology which could speed up the civilian sector, after all for the military to grow there has to be large growth in the civilian sector to pay for the goodies, rather then go into debt.

Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vs. Fuel Cell Engines (FCE). Now I know that the ICE has better range, but since these are meant to be a guardian not attackers, the FCE has far more benefits then the ICE which is why I would always go with them. If you want more range with a FCE use cargo options and add extra fuel this way but for guarding a base they would have more then enough fuel to handle any fight.

Alot of good thoughts there David CGB.

While there could be different grades of Myomer bundles I'm really not sure a retro approach would work here. I mean how retro could they be?

More later as to improving civilian sector and fuel range for Retros.

Hopefully more folks will jump in with there thoughts too!!

I was not sure how hard it was to build the military grade of myomer, so I thought a slightly lower grade would be much faster and easier to build. These guard mechs as I call them are meant to be fast to build and field, allowing battlemechs to be placed were truly needed.

Is there a difference between BattleMech and WorkMech myomers already in game that can be cited??
