Warhammer-T
« on: May 14, 2010, 01:32:42 PM »

==Overview:==
Although capable of only producing a handful of Warhammers each year, the
Taurian Concordat has embarked upon an extensive upgrade for that classic
design.  Determined to improve survivability as well as heat efficiency in
combat, the design teams made significant changes to the basic chassis; most
notably in the replacement of the left arm PPC with a Class 5 autocannon.

Reviews of the new 'Mech have been rathered mixed.  While TDF MechWarriors do
enjoy the vastly increased armor protection and the ability to fire away
without need to worry with cooking ones self in the cockpit, they feel that
something is missing from design.  Mercs, with their fierce belief in luck and
superstitition, have been even more suspicious, and export sales have been
notoriously lack-luster.

Despite the lack of popularity, the TDF plans to replace all WHM-6R production
with that of the new -6T.

==Capabilities:==
As with other Taurian refits, the Warhammer-T replaces the standard weaponry
with that produced by local manufacturers.  A High Energy Systems Corona PPC
is the primary weapon set in the right arm, while a Hyades Weapons Consortium
Reprisal Class 5 Autocannon is set in the left, along with a one ton magazine
containing 20 bursts of fire.  While this configuration reduces long-range
firepower by 25%, it does make the 'Hammer-T run far more heat neutral.

For short-range combat, the main weapon is an Aurora Missilers six-tube SRM
launcher and its associated one-ton magazine, both set in the right torso.
Four Martin-Gordan lasers (two Rapier mediums and two Stiletto smalls) are
divided between the right and left torso.  Finally, for added point-blank
firepower and anti-personnel capability, four Hyades Weapons Consortium Reaper
machine-guns have been fitted; two each in the right and left torsos.  A
single half-ton magazine for 100 bursts rests in the center torso.

One of the strangest effects of the new weapons is that while the installed
heat sinks have shrunk to a mere 13, the 'Hammer-T is actually capable of
sustaining a heavier rate of fire at both long- and short-range.

But it is the armor protection that has stunned MechWarriors used to fighting
the -6R in combat.  Twelve and a half tons of standard armor provide the
'Hammer-T with protection nearly equal to that of a Thud, transforming the
venerable Warhammer into a veritable pocket assault.

This is a sensible variant to the standard Warhammer, but to me it's doesn't "feel" like one. There is something iconic about the dual PPCs that any changes make it somehow less than the original.

Which I think I addressed in the fluff.   ;D

But, it's cheaper and more survivable.  I can see why the pilots (and you, The Rat that Ate Mechs) feel the way you do (and they do), though that won't change the way the government decides its purchasing policies.  Of all my -T conversions, this was the one I wasn't quite sure about--but in the context of the game universe, that is almost a plus!

The Hammer is my favorite Mech and my first variant was an ER PPC Gauss Rifle carrying bad ass. Just as long as you got two big guns in the arms I'm cool with it. I would have preferred an AC/10 but that might not have worked. Mechine Guns were always cut from mine as well.

MA,

You addressed those issues excellently in the fluff. While I may not like it for aesthetic reasons, this variant becomes much more effective and deadly with the increased armor and better heat profile. It certainly would work well for the Taurian gov't, regardless what the 'MechWarriors think. ;)
