Gnome II Battle Armour
« on: August 25, 2018, 09:04:48 AM »

Following the Jihad both Clan Hells Horses and Clan Wolf worked on several projects together which would bear fruit in the development of Ferro-Lamellor armour for Mechs as well as several technology exchanges between the two Clans.  Khan Vlad Ward's death in a 'friendly' Trial against the Horses ended this relationship but it had in truth run its course.  One of the final joint projects between the Clans was the development of a battle armour that would incorperate new weapons as well as be able to be upgraded with new armour compounds which were also under development.

This new heavy suit would be more flexible than the already existant Warg which was felt to be too slow for any operations outside of defensive battles and allow for an upgrade of the ageing Gnome series which many Scientists and Elementals felt had reached the end of its development cycle.
The Wolf suit wouldn't enter service for years and would only be finalized with some assistance from Clan Wolf in Exile and would eventually emerge as the Black Wolf.

The Hells Horses chose instead to put the design into immediate production as the Gnome II although many Elementals wanting to distinguish it from its older forebearer took to calling it the Uruk and the name stuck.

Whilst filling the same niche as the Gnome and matching its mobility and protection profile the suit was more flexible as its armour could be quickly swapped out and replaced with different compounds.  This flexibility made the new suit popular as it made them an unpredictable opponent and hard to counter.

Variants

LBX - The 'Standard' version of the Uruk the LBX featured the newly developed Battle Armour LB autocannon as well as a machine gun and AP mount for anti-infantry work, a heavy battle claw also lets the suit rip apart hostile Battle Armour in a melee.  Featuring no advanced armour the LBX is the more common of the Uruk suits as it lacks any definite specialization and can fufil many roles.

Laser - Very much like the standard Gnome, the Uruk Laser variant is armed with an ER Small laser as its main punch and this is in turn supported by a light machine gun for anti-infantry work.  Most importantly this suit is fitted with laser reflective or 'glazed' armour making this suit very difficult to knock out with energy weapons with them being able to even withstand a blast from an ER PPC.  Unfortunately the armour's nature means that its near impossible to camoflague these suits and they have less firepower than equivalent Clan and Spheroid suits.

Gauss - Demonstrating the bulky reactive armour the Gauss variant, like its glazed armour cousin is a very tough target to kill thanks to its thick layers of reactive armour whilst being able to engage targets at long range with its AP Gauss rifle.  Anti-infantry firepower comes from a fearsome Bearhunter MG which can obliterate infantry formations in a heartbeat.  The Gauss Uruk is not that common, tech's dislike the Reactive armour and Elementals complain that the suit is too bulky and uncomfortable.  These complaints are often forgotten when a suit can walk through an artillery barrage which is normally lethal for Elemental's.

Fire - Built to locate and eradicate infantry forces the Fire, unsuprisingly features the flame resistant armour but is also armed with flame weapons, a heavy flamer and standard flamer make it utterly lethal against infantry forces.  To hunt down infantry forces the Fire variant has significantly augmented sensors allowing it to hunt for targets whilst a cutting torch allows it to destroy obstructions in its path.  But to fit all this the suits mobility is somewhat reduced with it only being able to leap 30 meters.  Despite this, the Fire has proven its worth in testing against Pirate forces who tend to rely on incendiary weapons to take prizes and also tend to use large infantry forces which are quickly obliterated by the Fire Uruk.

Some idle musings for a Hells horses BA suit based on the Black Wolf.  Thoughts and comments are always welcome.

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

Thank you Dragon Cat, its not really much of an improvement on the Gnome, but rather a different flavour instead of something brand new.

I've really got to fiddle around with BA design. I've found over the years a bunch of images of powered armors I'd like to get to work for BT designs.
