Good evening, all.  Thought I would post the dozen or so Mechs that Clan Goliath Scorpion has adopted in the AU in which I have set The Seeker.  Although these are based on the Omnis I originally designed, I took your critiques to heart and thought long and hard about what the Scorpions really needed.  And what I came coming back to time and time again was that they really did not need to field expensive OmniMechs.  Think about it, the Scorpions favor energy and ballistic weapons tied into targeting computers--and in my reimagination of the Clan, they also desire high speed and mobility (although not quite as much speed as your average Hellion lusts after).

These characteristics resulted in all of Omnis have a limited pod space that really only offered a handful of different configurations.  Why then would the Scorpions even bother to build Omnis that cost 20-35% more instead of a Standard BattleMech (but a Mech built with the full complement of Clan tech)?  My answer to this is that they wouldn't.  Despite being the object of ridicule by other Clans for rejecting OmniMechs, the resources saved by converting their forces back to standard BattleMechs makes sense, especially considering how much resources they had to expend to build their new toumen (described below).  Anyway, enough of my talking--let's get to the Mechs.

Overview:
With the winds of change blowing in the direction of the Crusaders, the Khans
of Goliath Scorpion launched a massive program to upgrade and retool their
entire toumen in the wake of the Dragoon Compromise.   Realizing that the
return to the Inner Sphere would require new thinking, new equipment, and new
tactics, the Khans directed the scientist caste and several dozen former
warriors to design and build a series of BattleMechs that would give the
Scorpions sharp new claws to defend their Nests and carve out new territories.
Instead of cutting edge OmniMechs, the Khans of Goliath Scorpion decided
instead to invest fewer resources in the older BattleMechs.  Not only would
this consume fewer vital resources, but as the Scorpion warriors tended to use
only ballistic and energy weapons capable of interlocking into the Clan
targeting computers, many OmniMech configurations went unused by the Clan.

Although the Khans knew that their return to the older non-Omni technology
would be seen by their fellow Clansmen as a sign of weakness, they believed
that it made possible the most efficient use of limited resources.  Indeed, as
the new designs slowly came into existence over the decades following the
dispatch of Wolfs Dragoons to the Inner Sphere, warriors assigned to test the
new machines in secret were very pleased with the weapons arrangement and fixed
systems, as well as the general robustness of the new designs.  One small
change that the Khans did incorporate on all of these new Mechs was the
installation of numerous brackets, rails, and steps on the external surface of
the Mech; this allowed Elemental infantry to ride atop the new Scorpion
BattleMechs as easily as their fellows on standard Omnis.

Produced in secret over the course of two and a half decades in factories
concealed beneath the Temple of the Nine Muses on Roche, the sudden revelation
of these new war-machines caused consternation and concern among all of the
Clans at the prospect of a revitalized and aggressive Clan Goliath Scorpion.
Older, common Clan designs were phased out of service overnight, replaced with
units never before seen.

Fifty years after the Compromise and the orders to begin construction on their
new war machine, the Goliath Scorpions revealed to their fellow Clansmen the
results of that directive on the very eve of the launch of Operation Revival.
Ten new classes of BattleMechs were unveiled--each far more powerful and
capable than any such non-Omni constructed in the past century.  Had the
Scorpion Khans lowered their bids during the trials, they might well have
captured one of the invasion slots due to the skill of the Scorpion warriors
and the effectiveness of their new Mechs.  But, with the history of the Inner
Sphere at their disposal, the Khans and their senior officers refused to lower
their bidding alongside the other Clans scrambling for one of the coveted
slots.

Although warned of the dangers of underbidding, the Khans of Ghost Bear, Jade
Falcon, Nova Cat, Smoke Jaguar, and Steel Viper failed to heed the Scorpion
(and Adder) warnings.   Denied a spot in the invasion force, the Scorpions did
not launch a Homeworlds offensive like the Hellions, but instead retired to
their enclaves and defended their holdings furiously.   Their older equipment
was soon afterwards being traded for resources with the invaders as the
Crusader losses in the inner sphere steadily climbed.  Following Tukayyid, the
Scorpion stockpiles of common OmniMechs and older BattleMechs were finally
depleted as frantic Jaguars and Falcons and Vipers and Cats and Bears and
Sharks and Wolves hurriedly tried to rebuild shattered units and broken
toumens.   Although they did not participate in the invasion, the Scorpions
managed to make Revival and the Invader Clans pay for virtually all of their
own upgraded and modernized units.

Among the lightest of the new BattleMechs introduced prior to Revival was the
30-ton Hooded Eagle.   Named after the genetically altered raptor introduced to
the deserts of Babylon by the SLDF exiles following the Exodus, the Hooded
Eagle honors its namesake by serving as a swift, keen-eyed outrider of the Clan
that delivers a devastating and precise attack seemingly out of thin air.  The
Hooded Eagle is a massive bird-of-prey, measuring some two-and-a-half meters in
wingspan; larger, even, than the famed Jade Falcon.   Soaring high on the
thermals above the wastes of Babylon, this raptor relies on its keen vision to
spot even the smallest of prey on the broken ground far below and then dives to
impale its dinner on its fearsome talons before tearing apart its flesh with
its mighty hooked beak.   Blue-white and grey feathers cover the underside of
the body, wings, and tail, while the dorsal surfaces are patterned in splashes
of red, yellow, and orange.   All of this allows the bird to blend into the sky
overhead or the wastes below.   Only the head of this bird breaks the
camouflage.  Feathers of jet black cover the head and neck, resembling nothing
so much as the hood of an executioner.   Upon viewing the coloration, and
seeing the lethal plunging dive of this raptor, the settlers named the species
the Hooded Eagle.   And in honor of that animal, the Goliath Scorpions gave its
name to their newest light BattleiMech.

Capabilities:
Massing 30-tons, the Hooded Eagle is only slightly slower than the premier Clan
recon 'Mech (the Fire Moth) with a top speed of 151.2 km/hr versus a sustained
maximum speed of 162.0 km/hr for the older war-machine.   The Hooded Eagle does
lack the MASC system carried by the Fire Moth, however, which can boost its
overland speed to 216.0 km/hr for short sprints--albeit at the cost of risking
damage to its own leg actuators.  Armor protection for the Hooded Eagle is
nearly three times that of the Fire Moth, with five-and-a-half tons of
ferro-fibrous carried versus a mere two tons.   Similarly, the new BattleMech
features a more resilient and robust internal structure able to absorb and
dissipate greater amounts of damage than the Fire Moth, as befits a 'Mech
massing ten more tons.  As befits a front-line Clan ‘Mech, the Hooded Eagle is
outfitted with both endo-steel internal structure and ferro-fibrous composite
armor plating.

The Hooded Eagle is armed with three extended-range medium lasers (RA, RT, LT)
and a pair of Anti-Personnel (AP) Gauss in the left arm, fed by a magazine
containing forty bursts of fire.  Each of these light Mechs is equipped with an
Active Probe (in the right torso) and an ECM Suite (in the left torso) to
provide electronic-warfare support to members of its star.  For defensive fire,
an Anti-Missile System has been installed in the head of the BattleMech, fed by
a one-ton ammunition bin in the center torso that holds a total of twenty-four
bursts of fire.  All direct-fire weapons (the ER Medium Lasers and AP Gauss)
are tied into a one-ton targeting computer located in the center torso.  This
piece of equipment allows the MechWarrior assigned to a Hooded Eagle to
concentrate his fire against a single targeted location on his opponent,
allowing the Scorpions to literally dismember their foes.  Ten double strength
heat sinks are standard equipment on the Hooded Eagle as well.  This is more
than sufficient to dissipate heat generated by all weapons and movement.

The decision to manufacture the Hooded Eagle as a BattleMech as opposed to an
OmniMech resulted in a final price tag nearly of nearly six million Kerenskys
less than an Omni outfitted with similar equipment (approximately 1.5 million
C-bills).  The slight decrease in operational flexibility was more than
outweighed--in the opinion of Scorpion warrior--by the overall savings in
resources and the hard-hitting array of fixed weapon systems.

Deployment:
The Hooded Eagle has been assigned in limited numbers to both the Scorpion
Hussar Clusters and the Scorpion Dragoon Clusters.  Still, this 'Mech (along
with the Emerald Mantis) is the least common of any of the new BattleMechs
fielded by Clan Goliath Scorpion.  It is also commonly used in Scorpion Sibko
Training Units.

Despite the effectiveness of this design, other Clans have expressed disdain at
its non-Omni status.  Hence, there have to date been no batchalls issued for
this 'Mech.  However, just as the Scorpion Khans predicted, many of the more
aggressive Clans (including Ice Hellion, Jade Falcon, and Smoke Jaguar) did
interpret the replacement of front-line Omnis with these new BattleMechs as a
concession of Scorpion weakness--the response of Scorpion warriors to their
testing of that theory proved the hypothesis to be a false one.

Variants:
There is one variation of the basic Hooded Eagle design, although it is not a
true factory variant.  The Hooded Eagle-TAG removes one ER Medium Laser and
replaces it with a Target Acquisition Gear (TAG) system.  Used for artillery
forward observers, this modification is only seldom used in the typical
skirmishes that take place in the Clan homeworlds.  Accordingly, the design
team of scientists that created the Hooded Eagle equipped one of the torso
mounted lasers (the left torso unit) with a modular connection capable of
instead accepting a TAG unit.  Although technically not Omni in nature, this
does allow Scorpion commanders to reconfigure Hooded Eagles to call artillery
fire.  Unlike more traditional Omni systems, it requires several hours of work
by technications to pull the laser and replace it with a TAG unit.

Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:
Star Captain Aleisha LeClair commands Trinary Epsilon of the elite 6th Scorpion
Hussars (Desert Wind) from the cockpit of her Hooded Eagle.   This Striker
Trinary consists of four Hooded Eagles and six Death Weaver OmniMechs, along
with four Comanche and six Navaho OmniFighters.   Normally tasked to provide
recon support for the 6th or for Beta Galaxy (The Sand Runners), Star Captain
LeClair has proven to be exceptionally aggressive, even for a Clan officer.

Relying upon the superior armor, speed, and maneuverability of her light Mechs
and fighters, she has, on more than one occasion, turned recon and flanking
patrols into assaults onto isolated Clan forces of medium and heavy weight
Mechs.   So far, luck and the Scorpion reliance on precision targeting has
prevented Epsilon from taking serious damage in these skirmishes, but her
superiors recognize that if she continues to recklessly play against the odds
they will eventually cost her and her warriors a heavy price.

LeClair, on the other hand, openly yearns for the day when she can engage an
Adder, Bear, Coyote, Falcon, or Jaguar assault star with her lights; seeing
only the glory to be earned in defeating such opponents with her Strikers.
Only months away from turning 30, the Star Captain believes that she will be
soon be reassigned to a second-line galaxy, or even a PGC, unless she manages
to achieve an impressive victory over a superior force.   She has not been able
to understand that it is her methods and tactics, not her age, that have turned
her superiors against her.   Ironically, even as her un-Scorpion like
tendencies have estranged her from her own Clan, other Clans such as the
Hellions, Vipers, and Cats have begun to launch batchalls against the Goliath
Scorpions with LeClair and her progeny as the prize.

Targeting and Tracking System: Unknown

Overview:
The Emerald Mantis is the second new BattleMech produced by the Goliath
Scorpions secret armament program in the first half of the 31st Century.
Designed as a companion to the Hooded Eagle, the Emerald Mantis is a
jump-capable design that removes much of the Hooded Eagles armament and sensors
in order to provide a jump capability of 270-meters.

The Khans and Warrior Council of the Clan decided to honor the Emerald Mantis
of Eden by awarding that creatures name to their new BattleMech design.  A
native of the jungles of Eden, the Emerald Mantis is a large insect normally
measuring approximately one meter in length.  These creatures are the
descendents of genetically altered preying mantids from Terra.  On Eden, the
large insects developed a brilliant emerald shade exoskeleton, allowing them to
seamlessly blend into the jungle canopy.  As with their forebearers, the
Emerald Mantids are exceptionally patient hunters, sometimes remaining frozen
in place for hours before their prey comes within reach of their wicked
pinchers.

The Scorpion Khans and Warriors honored that patience in the pursuit of a kill
and the creatures awareness of all that moves around it by giving its name to
one of their newest Mechs.

Capabilities:
Built on a 30-ton frame, the Emerald Mantis uses endo-steel internal structure
and ferro-fibrous composite armor to save tonnage.  A powerful 270-rate engine
allows this BattleMech to move across country at speeds of up to 151.2
kilometers per hour, while nine integral jump jets give the design the ability
to cover terrain in leaps of 270-meters at a single bounce.  This devotion to
speed and mobility has squeezed the available tonnage and space left for
weaponry, especially since the scientists who designed the Emerald Mantis also
fitted it with five and a half tons of armor protection.

Weaponry consists of two extended-range medium lasers (right arm and left arm)
and one extended-range small laser (center torso), all of which are tied into a
one-ton targeting computer located in the right torso.  Defensive systems
include an Anti-Missile System in the head fed from a one-ton munitions bin in
the center torso that contains a total of twenty-four bursts of fire.  With
just the standard ten double-strength heat sinks common to Clan Mechs, the
Emerald Mantis can overheat on a full jumping alpha strike, but only slightly.
The heat burden is one that any trained Warrior should be able to easily handle.

With its potent combination of speed, maneuverability, mobility, and armor
protection--plus the inclusion of an all-energy battery of lasers tied into a
targeting computer--the Emerald Mantis is dangerous opponent.

Deployment:
This BattleMech is the least common of the new Goliath Scorpion BattleMechs,
with only a handful of trinary formations in Hussar and Dragoon Clusters being
equipped with the Emerald Mantis.  The largest concentration of these Mechs is
found in Zeta Galaxy (Nightcrawlers), the entirety of which is jump-capable.

Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:
Star Commander Philippe Henriquez commands a Striker Star in Trinary Epsilon of
the 19th Scorpion Dragoons (The Fire Scorpions) of Zeta Galaxy.  His Mech of
choice is an Emerald Mantis, which he uses to keep watch over the Warriors
placed within his charge.  Often referred to as a mother hen by those same
Warriors (although not to his face) Henriquez takes his responsibilities to his
men and women very seriously and will not place them in danger that he himself
is not willing or able to face.  Although his starmates are amused at his
devotion to their safety, they worry that he often places himself in greater
danger simply to protect them.  As a result, his starmates move quickly to keep
themselves out of danger that would draw the attention of their commander.
This circular motivation has resulted in the rapid improvement of the piloting
skills of these five Warriors, making it extremely difficult for opponents to
successfully land a hit on their Mechs.

Overview:
The second of the new Scorpion-series of BattleMechs, the Death Weaver is the
largest light BattleMech commonly encountered among the Goliath Scorpion
toumen.   Named after the famed Widowmaker spider of Eden's jungles, the Death
Weaver honors the animal, yet rejects the name originally associated with a
now-dead Clan.   After the Widowmaker absorption at the hands of the Wolves,
the Clans began to refer to the giant spiders of Eden as Death Weavers rather
than the Widowmaker name originally given to them.

Growing up to half a meter in diameter, these arachnids live among the trees
and undergrowth of the thick upland jungles and forests of Eden.   Unlike their
ancestors--the black widow spiders of earth--the Death Weavers live in colonies
consisting of hundreds of adults and juveniles.   Together, they spin massive
webs between the old-growth trees capable of snaring small reptiles, avians,
and mammals.   Once the victim is snagged by the web, dozens of the spiders
will descend upon it, injecting venom into the victim and encasing it within a
cocoon of webbing.   The venom breaks down the tissues of the victim, causing a
slow and painful death as the internal organs are liquefied.   Once the process
is complete, scores of the spiders will then suck the fluids from the deceased
and remove the desiccated husk from the web before weaving new strands and
restoring it.

Nicolas Kerensky named one of his Clans after the creature not only for its
lethal venom, but for its ability to work together in concert to snare prey far
larger and more powerful than itself--prey that once snared almost always
perished to feed the colony.   The Khans of Goliath Scorpion chose to honor
this animal by giving its name to their newest light BattleMech.

Capabilities:
The Death Weaver is a 35-ton light BattleMech that uses a 280-rate extra-light
fusion engine to achieve a maximum overland speed of 129.6 kilometers per hour,
or approximately as swift as the venerable LCT-series Locust BattleMech of the
SLDF.   Six full tons of ferro-fibrous armor provide substantial armor
protection to the design (96% of theoretical maximum coverage), more in fact
than any other known Clan light BattleMech.  This design uses both endo-steel
internal structure and ferro-fibrous composite armor plating for maximum weight
savings.

Like all new Goliath Scorpion BattleMechs, the Death Weaver uses a targeting
computer to tie together its direct-fire energy and ballistic systems:  in this
case an extended-range large laser in the right arm and a pair of AP Gauss in
the left arm, fed from a one-ton munitions bin containing forty bursts.
Backing up these weapons is a four-tube SRM launcher in the left torso,
augmented by an Artemis V Fire Control System and fed from a one-ton missile
magazine housing twenty-five missile salvoes.  The Artemis V system is a more
potent version of the old Artemis IV that not only groups the missile salvo
more tightly, but also acts as a targeting computer in that it aids in
targeting the Warriors opponent.  Clan Goliath Scorpion scientists had hoped
that the system would put an end to missile dispersion between different hit
locations and allow warriors to precisely target specific locations, but these
capabilities have not yet been realized.

An Anti-Missile System is installed in the head to provide defensive fire
against hostile missile strikes.  The AMS is fed from a one-ton magazine that
contains twenty-four bursts of fire located in the center torso.  The AMS ammo
bin shares that location with the one-ton targeting computer of the Death
Weaver.  Ten double-strength heat sinks come standard on this war machine; more
than enough to dissipate all generated heat.

Although not the fastest Scorpion Mech, nor the heaviest, the Death Weaver has
an excellent blend of speed, armor, and firepower--both offensive and
defensive.  Its weapon systems threaten all hostile units, from Mechs to
vehicles to infantry, and allow the Warrior assigned to this Mech the ability
to engage foes at extreme range.

Deployment:
Death Weavers are found in all types of Scorpion Clusters, from the light
Hussar Clusters to the heavy Cuirassier and Shock Clusters.  These BattleMechs
are the most common light Mech fielded by Clan Goliath Scorpion.

Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:
Assigned to the elite Trinary Gamma, 8th Scorpion Dragoons (The Whip-Tail
Brigade) of Alpha Galaxy (The Rock Minders), Warrior Marius and his Death
Weaver find themselves in pitched battle far more often than his fellow
warriors posted to other Galaxies.

A ristar among the Scorpions, Marius expects to compete to earn his Wagner
blood-name when the next slot becomes available.   Only twenty-two standard
years of age, Warrior Marius has participated in sixteen major trials between
the Scorpions and their rival Clans since his coming of age.  Often deploying
into battle with Elementals riding on his Mech, Marius will rush directly into
the center of the enemy formation, drop off his elementals and open fire into
the rear of a nearby opponent before fading away.   This tactic will usually
break the hostile star into smaller groups as the enemy targeted by Marius
begins to pursue him, leaving his star-mates to be engaged by the Elementals
the Scorpion left behind and the remainder of Gamma closing from the front and
flanks.

Although not strictly considered honorable, Marius has--on more than one
occasion--deliberately targeted a second foe before finishing his first, which
normally causes the newly struck opponent to fire back at him and trigger a
grand melee.   Usually, this happens when his supporting Elementals and Protos
are close enough to swarm the enemy and the Warriors own star-mates are in
support range.   Admonished twice for his actions by the Scorpion Council of
the Blood-named, Marius has also earned the enmity of a powerful blood lineage
of the Jaguars.

Four months ago, in an action involving the Jaguars attempt to gain a foothold
on Marshall, Marius managed to trick his opponents into triggering a grand
melee; this resulted in the death of Jaguar ristar Star Captain Paul Weaver,
and the hatred of Marius by other members of the Weaver blood-line.   So far,
the Whip-tail Brigade has fought three trials against the Jaguars as the Weaver
blood-line has repeatedly declared trials of annihilation against him and his
genetic legacy.

Targeting and Tracking System: Unknown

Overview:
Fourth in the new Scorpion series is the 35-ton Hellwasp.  This BattleMech is
the jump-capable partner of the Death Weaver.  Named after the much feared
Hellwasp of Circe, the light Mech embodies the traits of its totem by
possessing a strong sting, exceptional mobility, and an aggressive tenacity.

The Hellwasp of Circe was never intended for release into the wild; the
incident which caused the original genetic test subjects to be freed was the
result of a delusion former SLDF soldier who wrongly believed that medical
testing was being conducted inside the lab.  That mentally ill soldier was the
first victim of the Hellwasp when he released the swarm that killed him.  Since
that day, the Hellwasp has thrived, proving virtually impossible to
exterminate.  It poses a signficant threat to human settlements on the planet
as its acidic venom contains a powerful hemotoxin that is extremely painful.
Hellwasps lair in hives containing hundreds or even thousands of the insects;
although no larger than some of their distant ancestors (the largest specimen
on record measured just over one hundred millimeters in length), these
dangerous hornets tend to swarm on being distrubed, stinging aggressively any
creature that approaches the hive.

For that frenzied dedication to the defense of their nest, the Goliath Scorpion
Khans honored the Hellwasp by bestowing its name on one of their premier light
BattleMechs.

Capabilities:
The Hellwasp masses 35 tons and uses both endo-steel internal structure and
ferro-fibrous composite armor in its construction.  A 280-rate extra-light
fusion engine provides power for the BattleMech and allows the Hellwasp to
travel at speeds of 129.6 kilometers per hour.  Furthermore, the scientists who
built the Hellwasp incorporated eight jump jets in the design for a total jump
capability of 240 meters.

Armor protection is slightly less than carried by the Death Weaver, with just
5.5 tons of ferro-fibrous composite armor, but remains well within the normal
range of Clan units.  Armament consists of an extended-range large laser in the
right and two AP Gauss in the left arm, fed by a one-ton ammo bin that contains
forty bursts.  All three weapons are tied into a one-ton targeting computer in
the center torso for precision fire.  For defense against hostile missile
strikes, the Hellwasp includes a head-mounted Anti-Missile System and a one-ton
magazine in the center torso.  Eleven double-strength heat sinks are mounted,
allowing the Warrior assigned to this Mech to run and gun virtually without
worry of excess overheat.

Deployment:
Other than the jump-capable Zeta Galaxy, Hellwasps are only rarely encountered
in the Scorpion toumen.  Just a handful of trinary formations in the other
galaxies incorporate jump-capable Mechs, but Zeta is the home for any Warrior
who excels at highly mobile warfare.

Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:
Star Captain Christopher Lunde of Trinary Gamma, 2nd Scorpion Hussars (Blinding
Stare) of Zeta Galaxy commands his unit from the cockpit of a Hellwasp.
Although the lighest Mech in his mixed trinary of 10 BattleMechs and 25
Elementals, he prefers the high mobility that the lighter design offers him.
At the age of 29, Lunde is fast approaching the end of his career, and he is
well aware of that fact.  Unlike other Clansmen, Lunde accepts that and has
already contacted Master of Instruction Djerassi about the possibility of a
posistion training future sibkos.  For the moment, however, Lunde is
concentrating on keeping Gamma Trinary honed to a razor's edge.  With the
tensions between the various Homeworld Clans steadily risings, Lunde fears that
some small incident will be blown out of proportion and end the heroic and
noble experiment begun by Nicolas Kerensky.

Sand Devil

Mass: 45 tons
Tech Base: Clan
Chassis Config: Biped
Rules Level: Experimental Tech
Era: Clan Invasion
Tech Rating/Era Availability: F/X-X-E
Production Year: 3050
Cost: 9,364,390 C-Bills
Battle Value: 2,175

Chassis: Unknown Endo-Steel
Power Plant: Unknown 315 Fusion XL Engine
Walking Speed: 75.6 km/h
Maximum Speed: 118.8 km/h
Jump Jets: None
    Jump Capacity: 0 meters
Armor: Unknown Ferro-Fibrous
Armament:

    3 Unknown ER Medium Lasers
    2 Unknown AP Gauss Rifles
    1 Unknown Anti-Missile System
Manufacturer: Unknown
    Primary Factory: Unknown
Communications System: Unknown
Targeting and Tracking System: Unknown

Overview:
The first of the new medium-weight BattleMechs introduced by Clan Goliath
Scorpion was the 45-ton Sand Devil.  Named after the notorious Sand Devil
insects of the wastelands of Roche, this mid-weight Mech can out-fight anything
in current Clan inventories that it cannot out-run.   Found in all Scorpion
Clusters and training formations, the Sand Devil is one of the workhorse 'Mechs
of the Clan.

The Sand Devil of Roche is a massive 2.3-meter long insect that can weigh up to
300 kilograms.   Loosely resembling the ant-lion of Old Earth, Sand Devils use
a similar strategy of ambush to trap their prey.   These creatures dig steep
pits in the loose sands and soils of the wastelands, concealing themselves at
the very bottom.   Any sizable weight placed on the slope will trigger a slide,
bringing the Sand Devil's lunch to his door.  The 1.1-meter long mandibles of
this insect are diamond hard and powered by extensive bundles of muscles
attached to the skull.   Confirmed reports have shown the power of the bite of
these weapons can penetrate Elemental armor to damage the flesh and blood of
the Clan warrior beneath.   One interesting fact of the Sand Devil's mandibles
is that they ratchet down and lock in the closed position once the insect grabs
hold of its prey.   Breaking or cutting the mandibles is the only way to remove
them once they have locked hold.   But either option may take too long for the
victim.

Once the Sand Devil grabs hold of its prey and the mandibles lock down, it
begins to spray concentrated digestive acids onto the surface it is holding
tightly.   These corrosive fluids quickly liquefy flesh, blood, and bone, which
the Sand Devil then ingests.   More than one Elemental warrior assigned to
patrol the wastes of Roche has lost a limb to an ambushing Sand Devil.  To
honor the tenacious and lethal character of this insect and its steadfast
determination to defend its pit and not wander aimlessly across the desert, the
leaders of Clan Goliath Scorpion assigned its name to their newest medium
weight BattleMech.

Capabilities:
Massing 45-tons, the Sand Devil matches the size of the Clan Wolf Ice Ferret.
Compared to that older machine, however, the Sand Devil carries heavier armor
and weaponry.   This capacity comes at the expense of a small portion of the
raw speed of the Mech; 118.8 kilometers per hour for the Sand Devil versus
129.6 kph for the Ice Ferret.

The design uses a 315-rate extra-light fusion engine to obtain that movement
profile, along with eight full tons of ferro-fibrous armor protection--a full
100% of the theoretical maximum armor protection for a 45-ton chassis.  As an
additional weight-saving measure, the scientists who designed this Mech opted
for the inclusion of endo-steel internal structure.   As with all modern
Scorpion Mechs developed prior to Operation Revival, the Sand Devil features an
integral targeting and fire control computer system (a two-ton unit in this
case) as well as a defensive anti-missile system located in the head and fed
from a one-ton ammunition magazine with twenty-four bursts of fire positioned
in the center torso.  Main armament consists of an extended-range large laser
in the right arm, three extended-range medium lasers (located in the center,
right, and left torsos), and a pair of AP Gauss in the left arm, alongside a
one-ton ammo bin that holds forty bursts.  Fourteen double-strength heat sinks
are mounted, but Warriors assigned to a Sand Devil must still take care as it
is easy to build up a formidable amount of excess overheat very quickly.

Overall, the Sand Devil is an extremely capable opponent that carries an
extensive amount of mid- and long-range firepower and is equally capable
against both powered and unpowered infantry.  The heavy armor protection and
high turn of speed also serve this Mech well in defending Scorpion enclaves.

Deployment:
The Sand Devil is found in all types of Clusters and is one of the more common
Mechs in the Scorpion toumen, placing only behind the Desert Tiger and Goliath
Scorpion.  This Mech is also found in Scorpion Sibko Training Cadres.

Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:
Star Colonel Gregor Posavatz spent a full decade in the role of Seeker on a
quest to retrieve a cache of lost journals from a long-forgotten SLDF facility
deep within the Falcon enclave of Eden.   When he returned to his Clan in
triumph last year, he bore with him a dozen logs and journals written in the
script of General Aaron DeChevilier of the SLDF.   Although the majority of the
logs deal with the Amaris Crisis, the final three were written during the
Exodus and the formation of the Star League in Exile.   These journals, in
particular, offered insight into the decisions made by the Great Father before
the Pentagon Civil Wars erupted.   Currently, the journals are held in the
secure documents facility of the Temple of the Nine Muses on Roche; publication
of the contents has been delayed since certain entries do not match the
official version of Clan history.

After his return to the Clan, Posavatz proved that despite his age--bordering
on 42--he retained his skill and Scorpion lethality.   Appointed to command the
22nd Scorpion Hussars (Eye of the Storm) of Epsilon Galaxy (Sting of the Sun)
the former Seeker realizes that this posting is the end of the road for his
long and illustrious career.   Lacking the political skills and youth required
for a Galaxy command, Gregor has set out to impart all of his experiences and
knowledge to the men and women under his authority before he is forced to leave
them behind.   Under his tutelage, the 22nd Hussars have improved their quality
dramatically and are now recognized as one of the best formations assigned to
Epsilon.  One rumor has it that Master of Instruction Nikolai Djerassi intends
to offer Gregor a posting in the sibko training regime he has instituted for
the Clan, while others tell of the Khan wanting to recruit the Star Colonel to
head up the retired warriors and civilian castes of her Keshiks combat
operations support section.   However, regardless of what Gregor does in the
future, for now he concentrates on keeping the 22nd Hussars honed to a razor's
edge.

Targeting and Tracking System: Unknown

Overview:
The Snow Kraken is the second of the new Goliath Scorpion medium weight
BattleMechs introduced.  Fast and mobile, with good armor and firepower, this
Mech is a powerful unit on the battlefield.  It is named after the Snow Kraken
of Hector--one of the strangest creatures ever encountered by mankind.  A
native species of that world, the Snow Kraken is roughly analgous to an
amphibious octopus that spends the majority of its life on land.  This
twelve-limbed creature is boneless and covered in a thick, white fur that
contains oils to lock in warmth and repel water.  Snow Krakens mate once in
their lives, returning to the seas in order to lay their eggs and breed, but
afterwards they once again emerge on land and can live for up to fifty years as
solitary individuals.  Powerful creatures that rely on the constricting power
of their tentacle limbs and shearing bite of their wicked beak, the Snow
Krakens have been known to reach ten meters in overall length--weighing up to
two hundred forty kilograms.

The Clans honor these creatures as the penultimate scavengers, for Snow Krakens
devour anything organic that they encounter in their domain in order to
survive.  Despite their lack of an internal or external skeleton, these animals
are also able to move lightning fast--and can squeeze through very small spaces
with ease.  However, most enounters with a Snow Kraken are more likely than not
to be the result of an ambush by a hidden Kraken buried in the snow suddenly
emerging with a dozen tentacles wrapping around its prey, pulling it towards
the gaping beaked maw.

Capabilities:
The Snow Kraken is a 45-ton jump-capable BattleMech that uses a 315-rate
extra-light engine to acheive a maximum land speed of 118.8 kilometers per
hour.  Seven jump jets give this Mech a jump capability of 210-meters, while
eight tons of ferro-fibrous armor composites provide the maximum possible
protection for this weight class.  Designers used endo-steel internal structure
as well to provide maximum weight savings.

Armament consists of an extended-range large laser in the right arm, an
extended-range medium laser in the left arm, and a quad-tube SRM launcher in
the left torso, equipped with Artemis V Fire Control and fed from a one-ton
missile magazine containing twenty-five missile salvoes.  Both direct fire
weapons are tied into a one-ton targeting computer located in the right torso.
Defensive fire comes from a head-mounted Anti-Missile System, with a one-ton
ammo bin in the center torso with enough ammunition for twenty-four bursts of
fire.

Twelve double-strength heat sinks are fitted to the design, but the Warrior
assigned to a Snow Kraken must still take care with his heat buildup.

Deployment:
As with most jump-capable Scorpion BattleMechs, the majority of the Snow
Krakens are found in Zeta Galaxy, but a handful are assigned to Warriors of the
remainign Goliath Scorpion units.  The Snow Kraken is also extensively used as
a training Mech in Scorpion Sibko Training Cadres.

Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:
Warrior Michael (of the Kirov bloodhouse) of Trinary Beta, 18th Scorpion
Cuirassier (Adamantine Hearts), Zeta Galaxy (Nightcrawlers) pilots a Snow
Kraken.  One of Zetas problem children, Kirov has been reprimanded numerous
times for his un-Clan like mannerisms and blatent violations of the Clan code
of conduct.  So far, his skill as a Warrior has offset his ethical violations,
but Kirov is on the verge of being declared dezghra and removed from the
Warrior caste.  Already, his Bloodhouse has declared that his genetics will not
be used in their eugenics program and that Warrior Michael will never stand in
the Circle of Honor to battle for a bloodname.  Of course, this pronouncement
has given Michael little incentive to remain loyal to his House or to his Clan.
Due to the shame his presence is bringing to them, his starmates have taken to
shunning him--and he cannot expect their assistance on the battlefield.
Michael, on the other hand, seems to take great pride in causing both his
Bloodhouse and Clan such consternation--and he prefers to operate alone in the
field of battle anyway.

Code: [Select]
Dark Hunter

Mass: 50 tons
Tech Base: Clan
Chassis Config: Biped
Rules Level: Experimental Tech
Era: Clan Invasion
Tech Rating/Era Availability: F/X-X-D
Production Year: 3050
Cost: 10,046,250 C-Bills
Battle Value: 2,159

Chassis: Unknown Endo-Steel
Power Plant: Unknown 300 Fusion XL Engine
Walking Speed: 64.8 km/h
Maximum Speed: 97.2 km/h
Jump Jets: None
    Jump Capacity: 0 meters
Armor: Unknown Ferro-Fibrous
Armament:
    1 Unknown Arrow IV Missile
    4 Unknown ER Medium Lasers
    1 Unknown Anti-Missile System
Manufacturer: Unknown
    Primary Factory: Unknown
Communications System: Unknown
Targeting and Tracking System: Unknown

Overview:
The Dark Hunter is a dedicated artillery BattleMech based on the Desert Tiger
chassis.  Each Galaxy is assigned an Artillery Trinary built around ten of
mobile rocket Mechs and a star of 25 Elementals for security.  Due to the
infrequent use of artillery by the Clans, the Artillery Trinary formations
seldom see action, and are mostly manned by older warriors who do not wish to
leave the active duty service rolls.  However, the scientists who designed the
Dark Hunter also included a sizable array of standard weapons and armor--plus a
targeting computer--which allows these artillery Mechs to defend them better
than any other current in service with the Clans.  Shrewd Galaxy commanders
have even used the Dark Hunters as reinforcements in battles where they were
not permitted to use their Arrow IV launchers.

Capabilities:
Built on a 50-ton chassis, the Dark Hunter uses endo-steel internal structure
and eight and a half tons of ferro-fibrous armor composite to free up the
maximum amount of tonnage possible on a Medium-weight Clan BattleMech.  A
300-rate extra-light fusion engine provides ample power and the ability to move
at speeds of up to 97.2 kilometers per hour--an astounding rate for an
artillery Mech, regardless of its origins.  Additional defensive firepower
comes from the head-mounted Anti-Missile System, fed from a center torso
magazine that contains twenty-four bursts of fire.

The primary reason for the existence of this BattleMech is the massive Arrow IV
rocket artillery launcher mounted in the right arm and right torso.  This
weapon gives Clan Goliath Scorpion the ability to engage targets far beyond the
range of even Clan direct fire weapons--although the Clan honor code does
prevent its use against targets that are not considered dishonorable or
bandits.  Ammunition supply for the Arrow IV is superb, with four tons of
ammunition carried (a typical load consists of ten Cluster, five Homing, and
five FASCAM artillery rockets).  The speed of this mobile rocket artillery Mech
allows the Scorpions to quickly bring even distant targets under sustained fire.

For closer targets, and to give the Warriors assigned to a Dark Hunter weapons
to use in Trials where Arrow IV has been disallowed, the designers incorporated
four extended-range medium lasers--all of which are tied into a one-ton
targeting computer.  Two of the lasers are mounted in the left arm, while the
remaining pair and the targeting computer are situated in the left torso.
Eleven double heat sinks allows the Dark Hunter to fire its laser battery, AMS,
and walk without generating any excess overheat.  Normally, a Warrior assigned
to a Dark Hunter will not fire the Arrow IV at the same time he is engaging a
close target--but that has been known to happen.  Doing so risks shutdown due
to the high excess overheat produced, however.

Deployment:
As stated in the overview, each Galaxy has two stars of Dark Hunters assigned
as an artillery, giving the Clan a total of sixty of these speciality
BattleMechs.  An additional fifteen serve as a reserve force and as part of the
Scorpion Sibko Training Cadres.

Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:
Star Captain Micah Tazegul is the single oldest active duty Scorpion Warrior
listed in their toumen.  At 53 standard years of age, Tazegul is ancient by the
standards of the Clans and has long since been relegated to command of Alpha
Galaxy's Reserve Artillery Trinary.  Assigned to Dark Hunters for the past
seventeen years, Tazegul has come to appreciate his role in the combined arms
doctrine of the Scorpions and has developed a true flair for precise artillery
delivery.  He has also written a codicil to the old Star League artillery
manuals that has become required reading for sibkin undergoing training.  Under
his tuteledge, Alpha Reserve Artillery has become an elite unit--and quite
possible the finest Artillery Trinary found among the Clans.

Overview:
The most common of the new Goliath Scorpion BattleMechs is the 50-ton Desert
Tiger.   A controversial war-machine, the Desert Tiger has been compared--often
unfavorably--to the venerable and much loved Stormcrow.   Critics say that the
new Mech accomplishes nothing that the older frame cannot already do.
However, on a frame five tons lighter, the Desert Tiger gains an additional
half-ton of space for weapons and equipment, while maintaining the speed of the
Stormcrow, albeit at the expense of a small amount of armor protection.
Advocates for the Stormcrow dispute this claim by pointing out that the
flexibility of the Stormcrow OmniMech outweighs any savings in resources and
slight advantage in payload enjoyed by the Desert Tiger BattleMech.  Despite
the controversy over this new Mech, Clan Goliath Scorpion has proceeded to
produce the Desert Tiger at a staggering pace, replacing all Stormcrows in both
its front- and second-line service with this impressive new design.

Named after the Desert Tiger of Roche, this Mech honors the hunting skills of
this not-so-big cat as well as its extended family life.   Genetically altered
from stock Siberian Tigers brought to Roche by the SLDF exiles, the Roche
Desert Tiger experienced a reduction in size--unlike many of the species
scientists tweaked to fit into their new environments.   The largest specimen
on record measured a mere 1.4 meters in overall length (not including a .6
meter long tail) and massed under one hundred kilograms.   More typical adult
specimens average 1.2 meters and around ninety kilograms.  However, despite the
reduction in size, the Desert Tiger remains a powerfully muscled and sturdy
animal, with sharp claws and lethal fangs.   A second major change in the
creature’s behavior was also recorded:   unlike any other species of tiger on
record, the Roche Desert Tiger began to gather in large communal prides shortly
after its introduction.   Females cooperate in stalking and hunting and the
raising of cubs, while the males defend the pride from other aggressive
predatory species.   As many as one hundred Desert Tigers--both adult and
juvenile--have been reported as members of a single pride.

Living among the rocky crags of the barren Goldeta Wastes, these cats compete
for food, water, and shelter with a host of other creatures.   Upon finding a
suitable source of water, the pride will lay claim to the territory surrounding
that water source, clearing small caves in the rocky hills from all previous
inhabitants and driving away other predators en masse.   The pride will freely
share their water source with any other non-predatory creatures--a behavior
that provides the pride with herds of prey creatures.   Unlike many predators,
the pride will not attack their prey within sight of the watering hole, which
may indicate some level of reasoning ability on the part of these cats.
Instead, they allow other creatures to drink in safety, keeping their herds
safe from other predators and then ambush them away from the water in order to
obtain food for the pride.  Although they seem to lack any sense of territorial
aggression in response to non-aggressive species, the entire adult population
of the pride will respond to the presence of a predator--snarling and hissing
until it slinks away or the pride is forced to attack.   When confronted for
thirty or forty of these cats, most predators will flee--and the few that do
not are swamped in a sea of fur, claws, and fangs before their death.

The Khans of Clan Goliath Scorpion honored this cat and its respect for both
family and prey, as well as its fierce defense of home and progeny, by giving
its name to its most powerful medium class BattleMech.

Capabilities:
Massing 50-tons, the Desert Tiger uses an extra-light 300-rated fusion engine
to grant it a maximum overland speed of 97.2 kilometers per hour.   Eight and
one-half tons of ferro-fibrous armor provide near maximum protection for the
design's weight class as well and endo-steel internal structure has been fitted
to converse mass.   Wanting a hard hitting general purpose design that could
serve the Clan well in all combat conditions, the Goliath Scorpion scientists
who built the Desert Tiger turned to the SLDF BattleMechs for inspiration,
finally choosing the Thunderbolt as the Mech whose weapons configuration most
fit the desired role of the Desert Tiger.  The final layout of weaponry mimics
that ancient Mech almost exactly, although the Desert Tiger uses far more
advanced, longer-ranged, high-damage weapon systems.  Contrary to normal
Scorpion practice, the Scorpion scientists made no attempt to mount enough heat
sinks to allow Warriors assigned to the Desert Tiger to fire their entire
battery in a single alpha strike; instead, the Desert Tiger is designed to
fight at either long-range or short-range by using its weapons in these two
brackets.  Long-range combat is dealt with by an extended range large laser in
the right arm and a fifteen-tube LRM launcher in the right torso.  The LRMs are
equipped with Artemis V Fire Control for added precision and increased damage,
and three full tons of ammunition are provided, for a total of twenty-four
missile salvoes.

In the short-range bracket, the main weapons consist of three extended-range
medium lasers.  Mounted in the left torso, these guns have a good reach and
excellent damage profile.  Backing up the lasers is a single Streak SRM-2
launcher in the right torso, fed by a one-ton missile magazine that contains
fifty missile salvos.  Although the Scorpions do not generally favor Streak
launchers, the scientists insisted on including the weapon as homage to the old
Thunderbolt and the Khans of the Clan agreed.  For anti-personnel and
anti-infantry work, two AP Gauss have been fitted to the left arm, along with a
two-ton ammunition bin that contains eighty bursts of fire.  Augmenting the
defensive fire at both long- and short-range is a head-mounted Anti-Missile
System, fed by a one-ton ammunition magazine located in the center torso with
twenty-four bursts of fire.  All of the direct fire weapons are tied into a
two-ton targeting computer situated in the left torso, allowing the Desert
Tiger to make precise weapon strikes with great accuracy.

Ten double-strength heat sinks are fitted to the design, but this is not nearly
enough to handle the heat generated by a full alpha strike.  However, it is
sufficient to fire either the long-range weapons (ER large laser plus LRMs, and
AMS) or the short-range weapons (ER medium lasers, Streak SRM, AP Gauss, and
AMS) without generating any excess overheat if the Desert Tiger remains
stationary.  While moving, the Warrior assigned to this machine can fire his
long-range bracket without heat worries, but the short-range bracket will
generate a small amount of excess overheat if the Streaks successfully lock on
to a target.  Despite relying in large part upon ammunition dependent weapons,
the Desert Tiger carries a hefty load of ammunition giving it great endurance
on the battlefield; plus its battery of lasers will always give the Mech some
weapons with which to shoot.

Deployment:
The Desert Tiger is the single most common of the new Scorpion BattleMechs.
Found in every Cluster configuration, plus the Training Cadres, the Desert
Tiger represents the heart and soul of the new Goliath Scorpion toumen.  As a
fast cavalry Mech, the Desert Tiger has few equals, and despite the lack of
Omni technology, the varied weapons load makes this Mech a fearsome opponent
regardless of range, terrain, or weather.

Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:
Star Captain Loretta Madsen of Trinary Beta, 7th Scorpion Dragoons (The Din of
Battle), Delta Galaxy (The Night Crawlers) commands her Assault Trinary from
the cockpit of a Desert Tiger Prime.   With six Desert Tigers, four Sand
Devils, and twenty-five Elementals under her command, Trinary Beta is fast
moving and packs a sizable punch, often allowing it to confront and defeat a
comparable force of heavy OmniMechs in battle.

Acknowledged as one of the premier tacticians of Delta, Loretta is not only an
elite Clan Warrior, but a thinking one.   Although she fights her battles
strictly according to Clan honor codes, she uses terrain and her opponents
mindset against them ruthlessly.   Before a trial, she studies her opponent
from all data available and then seeks to deploy in a manner in which he or she
is not comfortable, throwing her opponent off-balance from the very start of
the engagement.   Oftentimes, she will use her commands speed to maneuver away
from her opponent, forcing her foes to become isolated from their own
star-mates, at which time she reverses course and strikes hard with a portion
of her unit while the remainder uses terrain to set up a blocking position to
keep hostile reinforcements from intervening.

However, once the battle is joined, Loretta tolerates no violation of the honor
code by her own forces--unless the enemy dishonors itself by its own actions.
Against such a dishonorable foe, Loretta takes no prisioners, seeking to
annihilate any Clansman that dishonors himself, his Clan, and the Founders.  On
two occasions, she has been the subject of Trials of Grievance initiated by
other Clans for killing foes whose 'Mechs had already been disabled; in both
she was able to prove that those opponents had dishonored themselves and did
not deserve to survive; as did the Warriors who brought the matter to trial.

Assignment to Star Captain Madsen's Trinary is seen as a test in Delta Galaxy
for new Warriors.   She trains her people longer and harder than any other Star
Captain in the Galaxy and brooks no insolence or insubordination from unblooded
Scorpions.   To survive and thrive under Loretta's command for six months is
seen as a mark of honor, although most Warriors are wise enough to chose a
transfer at that time, rather than remain with Trinary Beta and Star Captain
Madsen.

Targeting and Tracking System: Unknown

Overview:
The Thunderstrike is best described as a jumping Desert Tiger. This 50-ton
BattleMech retains most of the firepower of the that Goliath Scorpion medium
design, but adds six jump jets for a jump capability of 180-meters.

Unlike the majority of Clan designs, the Thunderstrike does not gain its name
from an animal common to the Clan homeworlds; instead, the scientists who
designed the BattleMech suggested it based upon its strike role and that it
payed homage to the SLDF Thunderbolt (hence Thunder-Strike).

Capabilities:
Massing 50-tons, the Thunderstrike uses an extra-light 300-rated fusion engine
to grant it a maximum overland speed of 97.2 kilometers per hour. Eight and
one-half tons of ferro-fibrous armor provide near maximum protection for the
design's weight class as well and endo-steel internal structure has been fitted
to converse mass. Six jump-jets were fitted to the design as well, giving the
Thunderstrike a 180-meter jump capability.

Long-range combat is dealt with by an extended range large laser in the right
arm and a ten-tube LRM launcher in the right torso. The LRMs are equipped with
Artemis V Fire Control for added precision and increased damage, and two tons
of ammunition are provided, for a total of twenty-four missile salvoes.

In the short-range bracket, the main weapons consist of three extended-range
medium lasers. Mounted in the left torso, these guns have a good reach and
excellent damage profile. For anti-personnel and anti-infantry work, two AP
Gauss have been fitted to the left arm, along with a one-ton ammunition bin
that contains forty bursts of fire. Augmenting the defensive fire at both long-
and short-range is a head-mounted Anti-Missile System, fed by a one-ton
ammunition magazine located in the center torso with twenty-four bursts of
fire. All of the direct fire weapons are tied into a two-ton targeting computer
situated in the left torso, allowing the Thunderstrike to make precise weapon
strikes with great accuracy.

Eleven double-strength heat sinks are fitted to the design, but this is not
nearly enough to handle the heat generated by a full jumping alpha strike. The
Thunderstrike is even more prone to overheating than its close cousin, the
Desert Tiger. Warriors assigned to Mech must carefully balance their weapons
fire and jump capability in order to be successful. In the long-range bracket,
the Thunderstrike can jump and fire its ER large and LRM-10, although the AMS
will cause slight excess overheat production. Warriors in the Thunderstrike can
run and gun without heat worries in the short-range bracket, but jumping will
create excess overheat.

Deployment:
Although not nearly as common as the Desert Tiger, the Thunderstrike is found
in nearly every Scorpion Cluster, manned by warriors who favor mobility over
heavy firepower. As normal, the majority of Thunderstrikes are concentrated in
Zeta Galaxy.

Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:
Galaxy Commander Colin Yeh leads Beta Galaxy (The Sand Runners) from the
cockpit of his Thunderstrike. Although his command posting and rank would
normally entail him to a heavy BattleMech, Yeh prefers a lighter design, and
one that mounts jump jets as well. His composite command star is often seen
jumping across the battlefield as it directs the 23rd Scorpion Cuirassiers (The
Ironshell Irregulars) and the whole of Beta Galaxy. Some of the Galaxy
Commanders opponents within the Clan insinuate that he has some degree of
Hellion blood in his veins, since Yeh clearly belongs to the 'fastest with the
mostest' school of thought. However, Yeh does not desire speed for the sake of
speed, it must also be balanced with firepower and armor--for simply getting to
a destination first means nothing if one cannot hold it. He considers Beta
Galaxy a finely honed rapier, razor-sharp and perfectly balanced for the hand
of a fencing master--which he is.

Overview:
One of two heavy BattleMechs in the newly developed Scorpion series is the
70-ton heavy, the Goliath Scorpion.   Only slightly less common than the 50-ton
Desert Tiger, the Goliath Scorpion serves as the mailed fist of the Clan, yet
manages to maintain a speed in excess of 85 kilometers per hour.   Unlike the
vast majority of other Clans, the Scorpions have deliberately chosen to forego
fielding resource-intense assault-class OmniMechs and BattleMechs.   Not only
does this save production time and resources, but it allows the Clan toumen to
maneuver quicker and with greater mobility than any Clan except Ice Hellion.

For decades, the experienced warriors and leaders of the Clan have argued that
while the sheer raw firepower of a Warhawk or Turkina or Dire Wolf are
impressive--frightening, even--the Clan custom of Trials pitting two roughly
equal combatants against one another makes such expensive and technologically
challenging machines unnecessary.   For instance, if Smoke Jaguar issues a
batchall against the Scorpions, and the Scorpions choose to defend with a
Trinary of medium or heavy BattleMechs, supported by Elementals, Clan
traditions force the Jaguars to choose whether to field a few outnumbered
assault-class Omnis or a larger force that more closely matches the weight of
the defender.   Only in the very rare Trials of Absorption and Annihilation
would the lack of assault-class 'Mechs possibly injure the Clan, the warriors
ruled.

Even then, in the opinion of those experienced and seasoned warriors, the
higher average speed and mobility of the Scorpions--combined with their
predilection for precise, targeted fire--could defeat assault-class machines;
provided that the Scorpions chose their battlefields wisely.  While most other
Clans scoffed at the insane (in their view) Scorpion ideas, the leaders and
warriors of Goliath Scorpion set about to remake their toumen according to this
new paradigm.   Today, the results of that effort have been unveiled, revealing
to all a swift and mobile fighting arm well able to stand against all but the
very heaviest of Clan formations.

When the Council of the Blood-named met to decide upon a Name for this new
BattleMech—a Mech that would represent the Clan in spirit as well as in
body--only one Name was seriously considered for the honor:   Goliath Scorpion.
Christened after the totem namesake of the Clan, the Goliath Scorpion will
lead the fight to defend the Clan Nests against any foe, at any time.   Armed
with a lethal array of deadly stingers, the adoption of this Mech and the new
tactics employed by the toumen ensure that even survivors who limp away from
their encounter will remember the burning sting and fiery claws of Clan Goliath
Scorpion.

Capabilities:
At 70-tons, the Goliath Scorpion closely resembles the Summoner class OmniMech
so beloved of Clan Jade Falcon.   However, the Goliath Scorpion carries heavier
armor and a larger payload of weapons, albeit at the cost of jump jets.  Even
the famed Timber Wolf class OmniMech of Clan Wolf has only a slight advantage
over the Goliath Scorpion.

Using an extra-light 350-rate fusion engine, the Goliath Scorpion can maintain
a maximum ground of 86.4 kilometers per hour over open terrain.   Considered
average speed for most Clan heavy Mechs, this capacity gives the Goliath
Scorpion the slowest speed of any BattleMech in the Clan toumen.   Combined
with the eleven tons of ferro-fibrous armor protection (97% of theoretical
maximum) and the addition of a defensive anti-missile system in the head (with
a one-ton ammunition magazine with twenty-four bursts of fire in the center
torso), this measure of mobility and defenses provides Clan Goliath Scorpion
with a very mobile and lethal heavy war-machine.

Twenty-two double-strength heats are fitted to the design, allowing Warriors
who receive the honor of piloting a Goliath Scorpion the ability to run and gun
almost without worry for heat buildup.  These heat sinks support just three
offensive weapon systems:  two extended-range PPCs (one each in the right and
left arms) and an extended-range large laser (in the center torso).  All three
of these weapons are tied into a four-ton targeting computer located in the
right torso.  One of the few Inner Sphere observers who witnessed a Goliath
Scorpion in action later described the Mech as the Awesome from Hell.  The all
energy battery allows heavy firepower at ranges farther than an LRM flight,
while the speed and armor are outstanding.  Finally, the presence of the
targeting computer was seen as insult piled atop of injury.  Scorpion Warriors
piloting these heavy Mechs realize the lethality of their equipment and often
deliberately target their opponents arms (which in the majority of Clan designs
mount most of the weapon systems) to render their targets armless and (mostly)
harmless.  Even the famed and feared Dire Wolf can withstand just three salvoes
from this Mech before both arms are reduced to useless slag.  Lesser Mechs are
even more vulnerable to this tactic.

The Goliath Scorpion is vulnerable to multiple lighter units and infantry,
however, as it does not carry a wide array of secondary weapon systems, but
dealing with such units is concern for other Scorpion Mechs within the Star,
Trinary, Cluster, and Galaxy formations.  The role of the Goliath Scorpion is
to quickly and precisely destroy their enemies heaviest units, and then assist
in the mopping up operations that follow.

Deployment:
Goliath Scorpions are found mainly in the Scorpion Cuirassier and Scorpion
Shock Clusters, although a handful are provided to each Dragoon Cluster as
well.  The second most common Scorpion BattleMech in the Clans toumen, the
Goliath Scorpion poses an incredible threat to any opponent on an open
field--and only slightly less in restricted terrain.

Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:
Star Colonel Jillian Scott, commander of the elite 24th Scorpion Cuirassier
(The Khan's Own) of Alpha Galaxy (The Rock Minders) is one of ristars of her
Clan.   At age twenty-five, she has earned her way into a Cluster Command; one
that furthermore is seen by the rank-and-file warriors of the Goliath Scorpions
as a gateway to future greatness.  Promoted less than one month ago following a
Trial of Possession against the Smoke Jaguars for the right to produce the
Goliath Scorpion BattleMech, then-Star Captain Scott managed to lead her
Trinary to victory by personally dispatching two Warhawks and an Ebon Jaguar in
single combat--one after the next.   Squaring off against the first Warhawk,
she destroyed one arm, and then the other, and then she offered the Jaguar
hegira, which her opponent accepted.   Turning back into the melee, she
launched an attack into a second Warhawk that had just eviscerated a Scorpion
Sand Devil, placing both PPC bolts and the laser beam through its fragile rear
armor and coring the assault Omnis engine.

At this point, she witnessed the Jaguar commander deliberately crush the
cockpit of a downed and unconscious warrior beneath the feet of his Ebon
Jaguar, and issued a call for a Trial of Grievance against him.   Star Captain
Raoul Showers accepted her challenge and the two faced off against each other
as the survivors of the two units formed into a Circle of Honor.   Ignoring the
fire from the Jaguar commander, Jillian began to dismember her opponents 'Mech
with precise blasts to the arms and legs.   Although she took heavy damage in
the engagement, the Jaguar was at last crippled on the ground at her feet,
devoid of both arms and both legs.   She then offered Showers hegira, but the
Jaguar refused.

She lowered both PPCs until they touched the cockpit and the Jaguar waited for
the blast to extinguish his life; but then she lowered them still more and
fired again and again into his Omnis center torso; firing until the engine and
gyro were destroyed and PPC blasts exited the shattered 'Mechs rear.   At that
point, she shut down her weapons and turned to leave, even as Showers pleaded
with her to kill him with honor.   She stopped, and turned back to him and said
the following:

'You have no conception of what honor is, Jaguar.   Of what it is to be Clan, a
child of Kerensky's Dream.   You know only fury and anger and rage, and that
shall be your undoing; not only for you, but for your Clan as well.   Today, I
grant you the mercy only a Scorpion may show; you live, but you live a shadow
of yourself, much as those who survive the sting of a scorpion always bear its
scar.   You live by my mercy, Jaguar, but I do not claim you as bondsman, for
to do so would bring your disease into my own Clan.   Go.   Return to Huntress
and explain to your masters how a mere Scorpion has defeated you.   Or flee as
the dishonored so often do.   That is my mercy to you, this day, Jaguar--go
home and die at the hands of your superiors for failure or flee to join the
bandits and never call yourself a Clansman again.   But whichever you choose
for yourself, go, and stain this Scorpion soil with your presence no longer.'

At that, she turned away and limped towards home in her battered Mech and the
Jaguars withdrew in disgrace.   Showers did return to Huntress and he was
executed for both his actions and his failure, but her victory earned Jillian
the anger of the Smoke Jaguars.

Blood-named Scorpions believe that the young woman is being groomed for the
next available Galaxy command position--or possibly even election to SaKhan or
even as Khan.

Overview:
The final heavy BattleMech of the new Scorpion toumen is the 70-ton Dune
Stalker.  A jump-capable design, the Dune Stalker is an extremely capable
in-fighter, designed for brutal close-range slugfests.

Taking its name from the Dune Stalker of Roche, this heavy Mech borrows many of
the traits from that massive herbivore.  The Dune Stalker is a four-legged
reptile that stands six-to-eight meters at the shoulder and masses nearly ten
tons when fully grown.  The head is protected by a bony shell from which
protrudes five ivory horns, ranging in length from one to three meters.
Toothless, these creatures use their sharp beaks to shear off vegetation and
swallow it whole, relying upon gizzard stones to aid in the digestion process.

Dune Stalkers are communal animals that assemble in herds of several dozen.
Nicolas Kerensky was impressed by the sense of family that these animals
exemplified, with the entire herd coming to the defense of the young and
individual animals.  Although normal slow moving and ponderous, the Dune
Stalkers can run at speeds of up to forty kilometers per hour for several
minutes a time--and a stampede of these brutes can topple and crush even heavy
or assault class Mechs caught in their path.

It was this creature that the Khans of Clan Goliath Scorpion decided to honor
by giving its name to one of their heaviest Mechs.

Capabilities:
Massing 70-tons, the Dune Stalker uses a 350-rate extra-light engine to move a
speeds of up to 86.4 kilometers per hour.  Five jump jets are fitted to the
design, allowing this heavy Mech to jump distances of up to 150 meters in a
single bounce.  Although it restricted internal space, the design team opted to
include both ferro-fibrous composite armor and endo-steel internal structure in
order to gain the maximum firepower possible.

Armor protection weighs in at a hefty eleven tons, and a head-mounted
Anti-Missile System provides additional defensive capabilities.  The primary
weapon is a LB-20X autocannon in the right arm, fed from a three-ton ammo
magazine in the right torso.  Due to the Scorpion reliance on precision fire,
normally only slugs are carried aboard--although on rare occassions a single
ton of cluster might be included in the mix.  Twin extended-range medium lasers
on the left arm back up the heavy autocannon and provide mid-range firepower.
All three of these weapons are tied into a three-ton targeting computer for
precision targeting.

A favorite tactic of Warriors assigned to a Dune Stalker is to rapidly close
with their target, and then jump into their rear at point-blank range.
Foregoing any attempt to disable their opponent, the Dune Stalker pilot will
instead concentrate all fire on the weak torso armor, wreaking horrendous
damage on the engine and gyro after blasting through that weaker armor plating.
Only seldom is a second salvo needed to finish off the target.

Complementing the ballistic and energy weapons described above, the Dune
Stalker also mounts a six-tube SRM launcher in the left torso, fitted with the
Artemis V Fire Control System and fed from a one-ton missile magazine that
holds fifteen salvoes.  Thirteen double-strength heat sinks finish off the
design, giving the Dune Stalker enough heat dissipation capabilities to jump
and fire all weapons without generating any excess overheat.

Deployment:
Common only in the ranks of Zeta Galaxy, a few Dune Stalkers can still be found
in the remainder of the Clan's toumen.  This is a relatively uncommon design,
but one that has steadily gained in popularity among Scorpion Warriors since
its introduction.

Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:
saKhan Nelson Elam has chosen a Dune Stalker as his personal BattleMech.  The
second-in-command of the Clan relies upon this massive machines
jump-capabilities and heavy short-range firepower to quickly eliminate threats
to his command Keshik, one of the Scorpion Shock Clusters.  This young leader
of the Scorpions is fully supportive of his Khan--Ariel Suvorov, despite her
being an aerospace pilot.  He has also placed his full political power squarely
behind the recent reorganization and refurbishment of the Clan, despite the
drain in resources it has imposed upon the civlian population.  However, with
the overhaul complete--and revenues flowing into Scorpion coffers from their
trade of older equipment with the Invading Clans--he has assured civilian caste
leaders that their days of rationing are behind them.

Anyway, guys, that is all of them.  In my alternate universe of The Seeker, the Scorps replace their entire toumen of common Omnis and second-line BattleMechs with these home-grown designs--all of which carry Clan Targeting computers.  Hope that you all enjoy the info-dump.  Good night.
