OSTWAR OWR-2M


Overview
A possible oversight in the developers' creation of the Royal OWR-2Mb from TRO:3085 left the design without an Introductory Tech unit from which it originated. The Primitive design was the sole basis for this highly advanced machine from Ostmann Industries. It is quite likely that this durable and highly-effective Primitive would have originated from a low-tech unit, for sale to House quartermasters hungry for the best hardware at the lowest price.

To fill this gap is the OWR-2M (Intro) variant. Its load out maintains a similar feel to its Primitive ancestor, but with a larger engine, capable of 64kph. Its dual missile racks were upgraded to 6-shot launchers, fed through a rapid feed mechanism. The outward appearance remains identical to the Primitive OWR-1X; enough to fool Hegemony scouts assessing the strength of the other Houses.

I like the upgraded design TigerShark but did you have trouble posting it? Seems like you double posted the entry. I'd love to know a little more with a bit of extra fluff. Like who uses this Mech? RWR? Houses? Mercs?

We'll be using it to replace the OWR-2M Primitive in our MekWars campaign. It will be on the general tables, with a higher percentage for FWL, OA/TC/MoC and RWR. A player making a direct purchase has an 80% chance of the OWR-2M and 20% shot at the Royal OWR-2Mb

Given the distribution of the TDR-5S Thunderbolt, the Ostwar seems like a logical alternative for states looking for a reasonably-priced line unit. The Hegemony's refusal to adopt the design is a boon to the other Houses and Periphery Powers; a rugged, tough design that's nearly 1,000,000 SLD / C-Bills less than a Warhammer, and with a higher damage potential in the Short bracket.

I would expect to see this unit produced by Ostmann Industries and its licensed manufacturers on Terra and elsewhere, giving it a relatively-common place in Civil War and Succession War armies. Kong Interstellar continued to make the OTL-4D as a licensed product and it seems reasonable that Ostmann would do the same with its other designs.

as an Alternative, I chose to boost armor protection. rather then firepower.

Not a huge difference JPArbiter. You add a heat sink and a ton of armor. What if you did double heat sinks and a case or two?

The goal of the design was to create an interim between Primitive and Royal. I suppose DHS would work, but it would defeat the purpose of the design since the OWR-2Mb already has DHS / XL Engine.
