Handheld Weapons
« on: August 31, 2011, 12:46:32 AM »

Hi I just got my paws on Tech Readout Prototypes . I was going thru the book when I reached p.118 QKD-8P Quickdraw. I read thru the overview and lo and behold it was talking about handheld weapons and I had a flashback to Muscatech Mech Rifles. I think the people who work at battletech are reading Mecha Press for tech. What do you think??

Hand held weapons were in Max Tech booklet ages ago so they are nothing new.

The Quickdraw was just the first canon design, I can't see it being the last

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

True but I think this is one of the first mechs that is actually using one.

The Quickdraw experimental was the first one to have a canon handheld weapon with the hand held weapon sheet specially made for it.

The Axman in Steiner was the second showing the experimental trend

Several 'Mechs could use these rules.

The original Wolverine and Battlemaster spring to mind.  (Though I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about since its been over half a decade since I did any mech designing.)  I didn't like all the resculpts of the original mechs and all the changes it caused to their design history (the Locust lost it chin turret, the Rifleman lost it radar wing, the Wolverine and Battlemaster lost their "pistols", etc.).

I designed a custom Fafnir for Archon Peter Steiner-Davion in my AU

2 Improved Heavy Gauss Rifle and proper arms.  Carried in these arms an RAC/2, ton of ammo and a ton of armour, short lived weapon designed to fire at full auto until it jams or is empty, a nice bite to it

The Clan Hell's Horses also see's the advantages in this tech. The Incubus ll is using this tech to great advantage. Clan Fennec loves the speed, power and deadliness in this tech. So will Clan Ice Hellion if I am correct. We can whip a lot of enemies with this.

Bah - New Clan Warriors use hardpoints!  They're kind of a dissapointment, really.  The lifting capacity of mechs isn't really meant for it.

I'd suggest adding superior tactics, but that wouldn't be the Clans' style, and is why the Clans will always be beaten by the Inner Sphere.  But that's what happens when you promote based on who is the best shot, not who is the best commander.

We do use superior tactics. Also talk to House Steiner they have more experience with not utilizeing better commanders. Their Social Generals are ridiculous. The Inner Sphere got lucky that Clans Fennec and Ice Hellion were not included in the Invasion. No Inner Sphere command would be standing!!!!!!!!!!  Seyla His Will be done
