L'Armée de la République des Mondes à Bord (The RWA)
« on: September 23, 2014, 12:06:42 PM »

So, I'll admit.  I love the RWR.  What if Lucien Dormax's government survived and ALMARIC got canceled?  I'm working on a sourcebook.  But here are some of their Toys.

Fantassin

Mass: 25 tons
Tech Base: Inner Sphere
Chassis Config: Biped
Rules Level: Tournament Legal
Era: Succession Wars
Tech Rating/Era Availability: D/X-E-D
Production Year: 2775
Cost: 1,777,917 C-Bills
Battle Value: 638

Chassis: Republic XP1 Standard
Power Plant: Ford 125 Fusion Engine
Walking Speed: 54.0 km/h
Maximum Speed: 86.4 km/h
Jump Jets: None
    Jump Capacity: 0 meters
Armor: Panzerslab Standard Armor
Armament:
    2  Medium Lasers
    1  LRM-5
    1  SRM-4
Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
    Primary Factory: Apollo (destroyed) Tombouktou
Communications System: Siri 1.0
Targeting and Tracking System: Dillon Tracker

Overview:
French for "Light Infantryman", the Fantassin lives up to its name well.  Built
specifically for backwater militias, the requisition from the quartermaster's
office called for a light battlemech capable of fighting at all ranges that
cost less than a million Lyran Kroner to build, was easy to repair, and it
could not use any advanced star league technology.  Ford Motor company of
Apollo submitted a bid in 2773 for a 25 ton battlemech that could easily be
reconfigured for long or short ranged combat.

One would think that the emphasis on low price would make the Fantassin an
inferior machine with many quality issues.  But pilots and technicians alike
have fallen in love wth the 25 ton wonder.  As one pilot put it "It's built
Ford Tough." It's even cheaper to repair, and pirates attacking backwater
Republic Worlds have learned the hard way not to underestimate the machine.

Born out of sheer desperation, the Fantassin was to be built for Kerensky's
armies as well as the Republic, but none were taken on the exodus.

Deployment:
As of 3148, only one Frontline Regiment still deploys the machine, though it is
prolific in militias.

However, artillery regiments often use them as bodyguards for artillery pieces
and later artillery mechs, ensuring the safety of the RWA's cover fire.

However, the machine's sterling service record has seen it picked up by
mercenary groups as part of payment, and entire regiments were sold to foreign
powers during the Jihad.

The Marian Hegemony fields the Light PPC variant with the SRM removed,
replacing it and its ammo with Rocket Launchers.

Variants:
One variant removes a misile rack and standardizes the pair, making a cheap but
effective lance of layered fire.

Another variant born out of the Jihad replaces the LRM 5 with a light PPC,
giving the macine a respectable, reliable long range punch.

Sentinelle SN1-L

Mass: 70 tons
Tech Base: Inner Sphere
Chassis Config: Biped
Rules Level: Tournament Legal
Era: Age of War/Star League
Tech Rating/Era Availability: E/E-F-D
Production Year: 2786
Cost: 6,427,898 C-Bills
Battle Value: 1,478

Chassis: Unknown Standard
Power Plant: Unknown 280 Fusion Engine
Walking Speed: 43.2 km/h
Maximum Speed: 64.8 km/h
Jump Jets: None
    Jump Capacity: 0 meters
Armor: Unknown Standard Armor w/ CASE
Armament:

    2  Medium Lasers
    1  SRM-4
    1  Small Laser
Manufacturer: Unknown
    Primary Factory: Unknown
Communications System: Unknown
Targeting and Tracking System: Unknown

Overview:
Reliable, effective, easy to produce and even easier to maintain, the
Sentinelle is a favorite of Pilots, technicians, and quartermasters alike.
Built using the same engine, legs, and frame as the -6R warhammer, the Republic
had no trouble at all building Sentinlles in massive quantities as the First
Succession war was brewing.  Built specifically for garrison duty, Many planets
in the Republic held on to their Sentinelles during the clan invasion, as they
had reliably served for almost three centuries.

Capabilities:
The Sentinelle may be cheap, but that does not mean that it is of shoddy
craftsmanship.  In fact, the opposite is true - the RWA needed a reliable,
quality mech that could handle almost any situation.  It is also extremely
customizeable, as the RWA has found out over the years.

Rampage RMP-2GA2

Mass: 85 tons
Tech Base: Inner Sphere
Chassis Config: Biped
Rules Level: Tournament Legal
Era: Age of War/Star League
Tech Rating/Era Availability: E/E-F-D
Production Year: 2735
Cost: 7,802,005 C-Bills
Battle Value: 1,831

Chassis: Stanwhich 850 Standard
Power Plant: Packard 255 Fusion Engine
Walking Speed: 32.4 km/h
Maximum Speed: 54.0 km/h
Jump Jets: SNECMA J75
    Jump Capacity: 60 meters
Armor: Panzerslab Standard Armor w/ CASE
Armament:
    1  PPC
    1  LRM-15
    1  Large Laser
    2  Medium Lasers
    1  Flamer
    1  Anti-Missile System
    1  Guardian ECM Suite
Manufacturer: GIAT
Primary Factory: Breguet, Besançon, Eau Rouge
Communications System: Siri 2.0
Targeting and Tracking System: Dillon Sharpshooter

Overview:

Of all mechs to be associated with the Republic, the definitive Republic
battlemech is the A2 model Rampage. It uses a bare minimum of lostech, namely
CASE protected ammunition, an ECM suite, and an antimissile system.  But the
engine, frame, armor, gyro, cockpit, and heatsinks are all standard.

It is an imperfect machine, but adequate for its role as a main line mech.
However, its endemic imperfections and obvious room for improvement have the
2773 design as the most beloved and most common mech in Republic TO & Es.  Some
lampoon it for being a Zeus, but the A2 Rampage came first.

The interesting thing is that it was almost never made at all.  Not because of
ALMARIC, which was canceled, but because Kerensky's general Staff didn't want
the Republic building Rampages, even the lower tech models. If they were going
to get 2/3 of all Republic battletechnology produced until Stefan was
vanquished, they didn't want Republic machines. They wanted other 85 tonners -
such as the Crockett and Stalker.

Aaron DeChavilier saw the Rampage in a different light.  He knew its negative
connotations and that it was to be a symbol of fear, but the thought of
companies of Rampages in SLDF colors smashing through Amaris lines, built by
Republic citizens and in many cases piloted by them was too deliciously Ironic.
DeChavilier released workers captured from the Weigel plant to build a cheap,
effective machine.  Plus, when dormax revealed extra tooling for the -2G, the
deal was sealed.  Rampages would be built much faster than changing the lines
to build Stalkers or Crocketts.

Capabilities:

The A2 Rampage was built to fight at all ranges, with missile standoff defenses
and anti-infantry capability. It performs its role capably, though there are
flaws.  For an 85 ton machine, it seems outgunned at times, but the -A2 has
been known to be a "Zeus Killer".

Battle History:

There is not a single Republic campaign in which the A2 Rampage has not
participated.  the 375 year old design is still a pilot favorite for its sheer
battlefield endurance.

Deployment:

Though it's 375 years old and dirt common, only House mercenary units deploy
the -A2 outside of the RWA.  Anyone else who has one got it via salvage.

Variants:

Owing to its simple construction, There are simply too many variants of the
venerable machine to list.

Though the -A4 Variant is a massive upgrade, many pilots still prefer the -A2
for its simplicity and ease of maintenance.

just to point one thing out.  the Rampages Reputation as a Zeus Killer would have to be after the fall of the Star Leauge (or equivalent events) I.E. 2787.  the Rampage premiered a full 50 years prior.

As the resident French (you know the needed one ;)), I must correct two things.

"French for "Light Infantryman", the Fantassin lives up to its name well." = Fantassin is French for Infantryman. A light infantryman is translated differently.

And where did you get the "à bord" (= onboard) in your title?

Well, damn.  My French-english dictionary that wasn't suitable at the university level wasn't suited to looking things up for Battletech.  I found a page of World War I terms, and used a few.

And I know about the Zeus.  this AU stuff.  Hence the "375 year old design."

Very nice, so how does it work?  The RWR simply survived under Dormax? Did they hold Apollo? They really face an uphill struggle against pirates or bandits who are likely tied to Amaris.

Sounds quite likely they'd return to a Greek-language series of connections, since that was the military tradition under Hector Rowe. Why the change to French? I don't recall them having any French-speaking population. English, German, Portuguese, Japanese, and Hebrew, I think it was..?
