Overview:
FASA Apocryphal mech sheet, via William Ward; Stats
courtresy of Hugh H. Browne, author of Technical
Readout 3058. Later changed to a 100-ton design by
FASA in the Record Sheets and TR3058.
However, the history of the BT universe supports the
Mackie's description as a 50-ton mech, since it was the
first battlemech, but the Griffin, produced a few years later,
was described at 55 tons as "considered an assault
mech".
I adhere to the theory that the Emperor's early design date
was for a Level 1 prototype, and that the Griffin as an
"assault" mech did not refer just to the Periphery states'
lesser mech design capabilities, but to the mech weight
mindset of the time.
Under these assumptions, the Mackie fits better as a 50
ton mech. This theory is also supported by the
appearance several years ago of a MechForce UK L2 refit
of the Mackie: though it was 100 tons, it sported twin
SRM4 launchers, when no missile launchers were present
on the FASA 100-ton version, only on this 50-ton
Apocryphal mech.

i found this over on the defunct website Technical Readout Legends. I must agree the Mackie fits better as a Medium Mech, not an Assault Mech.
