Mini and Maxi Warhammer Project!
« on: November 17, 2010, 11:16:51 PM »

Okay guys this is your chance to join in and help build a Mech for the Clarion Call setting aka FedCom Forever! I call it the Mini Hammer for now but needs a better name. The idea to make a smaller high tech version of the Warhammer that is faster but has one (actually two) of the InnerSphere's longest range weapon of the time, 2 ER PPCs. Weighing in at 50 tons I'd like to stick with a 300 XL as it is common enough which gives us a speed of 6/9. However rounding out the design is proving problematic so I'd like to get your input. The fluff behind the design is also important as I planned to have it as a StarCorps product. But where exactly did StarCorps come from? At least in canon it looks like all their factories were destroyed in the Succession Wars but then in TRO3058 there back with a vengeance. Multiple Factories pop up all over the place but what did they have before. Did the 2nd Star League help them out or is it like the Star League - a dead corporation that was reborn to supply the SLDF? Looking forward to your thoughts!

1. Name the Mech.
2. Round out the Design.
3. Discuss StarCorps Rebirth.

1. Mjöllnir like Thor's short hammer.
2. Give it Endo Steel, Double Heat Sinks and you can put nearly the same weapons (SRM-6 with 1 ton of ammo, 2 Medium Lasers, 2 Small Pulse Lasers) together with 9.5 tons of armour and a CASE.
3. Someone or something trying to bring it back for its own goals.
Perhaps the governments of Earth trying to create a major player to bring back their former power?

If you read the TRO's carefully it is apparent that StarCorps never died, it was just missed in the early SBs.  P. 301 TR3039 The Longbow entry says that 2 factories (Crofton and Loburg) survived to 3039 and a third Emris IV was only destroyed in 3014.  The basis for this data is TR3058 (i.e. the broken TRO) that added a lot of retcons and munchkinism to BT.

In  addition to the 3 factories listed above, they also had a major factory on Son Hoa that built Emperors and Highlanders until it was nuked in the 2nd SW.  The SLSB says that StarCorps was headquartered on Fletcher.

I think the Capellan one as it started as a Terran Hegemony company.

Thanks for all the input guys.

1. I'm liking Mjolnir for the name but I'm still looking for something more generic. I was actually considering the Gavel but it lacks the sex appeal.

2. If I add all the Warhammer weapons we are going to be short on heat sinks. Originally had planned 15 DHS and even with that moving and firing those ER PPCs takes you over heat by 2. Agree with the Endosteel structure I think that is a given. What do you think of LRM 5s to further augment this Mechs long range firepower which is I think the focus and a few small energy weapons for close range engagements.

3. I firmly believe that Fletcher is the Terran Hegemony planet that became Capellan after the start of the Succession War. It would make sense that the corporate headquarters was moved to the Capellan interior during this time as the company limped along.

As for TRO 3058 I think it was a new Star League and its offensive against the Clans that pushed it along.

10 as I don't want it to be perfect  ;D and firing in a 2-1-2 pattern is good enough for me (especially if it can fire all its short range weapons at once).

That runs very hot Ice. According to my calculations with 10 (20) you'd be over by 12 if you fire both ER PPCs (15 heat each for a total of 30) and run (2). Next round you generate 17 heat by firing a single ER PPC and running meaning your over by 9. Third round you add another 12 and are over by 21. By round five you are shut down and cooking in the cockpit. Plus that SRM ammo gets smokin as well.

Gabriel's suggestion may fit better with a few more energy weapons and more heat sinks.

Why run?
And this was just an indication as you might fire in other patterns if needed and don't forget to fight at close ranges too (which allows you to cool more).

Doesn't really change the math any Ice even if we don't account for movement. In 5 turns your over heat and shut down.
