Since the design contest this week is for the Marauder, I thought I would see how much we could shrink a Clan Marauder while keeping the same damage profile.
Turns out, we can go down by about 20 tons, while keeping almost the same (overall, but not the same per location!) armor as the MAD-3R (182 points on my design vs 184 on the MAD-3R), boosting speed by 50% (6/9 movement profile instead of 4/6), and having the same amount of damage delivered . . . while being almost heat neutral as well (30 sinked vs 31 max generated)!
The three long-range guns (LB-5X, twin ER Large Lasers) have a greater range, but the twin ER Small Lasers have a shorter range. Still, the max damage of the two are identical and the only range where this is not true (and the MAD-3R could reach) is hexes 7-9!
Of course, my Mini Marauder IIC costs more (11,890,025 C-Bills vs 6,631,750 C-Bills) and is worth more in BV (1,855 vs 1,363). You have to decide for yourself if the increase in weapons range (overall) and increased speed is worth that cost.
Anyway, hope ya'll enjoy this thought exercise! Good hunting!

I found out I can use a standard engine (not XL) and a 5/8 speed and it will be cheaper in C-Bills than the MAD-3R (5,467,342 C-Bills), but almost the same in BV as the 6/9 XL design (1,805). Have to give up two DHS, however, but max overheat is still just +5. Which ain't too bad.

Interesting masterarminas, with the standard engine it could be a nice PGC 'Mech focusing on long range defense. I like the concept but I'd call another name of course and what Clan would manufacture it.... the Wolves cause they like Marauders?

I like the idea of a Mini-Marauder IIC for the Clans I had played around with the design myself when coming up with designs before my vacation. As I wasn't around when any IIC variants were being contested on here I've played around with some of my favorites. I've always liked the appearance of the Marauder but preferred other designs in the tonnage area for actual combat. The Clans with their advantages in tech make a nasty one. I went with 60 tons as I like commonality of the 300 rated engines plus even numbers make Endo more effective.
Not as heat effective but when are the Clans ever that way. Seem to prefer knockout power to staying power in their designs.
If I'd chose a Clan to produce my bias shows and I'd say Star Adder

While I like the 60 ton chassis especially with the good old 300 Fusion Engine masterarminas loadout is superior to me because of its range and cool running nature. His ER Larges strike out to 25 hexes while the LB-5X AC hit at 24 hexes while generating 25 heat. Your weaponry while harder hitting has a little less range and a lot more heat, 40 total, which it can't deal with. If you straight out adopted masterarminas' weaponry then I'd say yes.
Getting back to the 55 tonner originally put forward by masterarminas why don't we mix the Marauder with another Mech like the Shadow Hawk or Griffin? Using the old Core Tek 275 Fusion Engine is a nice basis here for the combo and it gives it a Jade Falcon feel with those bird Mechs providing inspiration.

I had the same idea: more speed than MasterArminas' design but more punch.
I will see what I can do.
-
I'll give range advantage but can do similar damage as well at heat neutral plus in certain situations can go overheat for an additional knockout punch.
-
You only have 14 Double Heat Sinks and the first things that come into range is the ER PPCs. 30 Heat and running produces a slight overheat of a plus 4. Got no huge problem with that as you could alternate fire. That reduces your effectiveness already somewhat.
Bigger problem is when you come into range with the Large Pulse. You can never Alpha Strike as your over by 14 the moment you do. Desperate situations means you say screw it once sure but that means your losing.
The 25 damage that masterarminas produces is constant other than ammo concerns. Your average damage is about 25 as well but at shorter range.
-
So putzing around after I remember there was an official Marauder IIC, with that horrible art. This is what I think the Canon Marauder IIC should have done instead of bumping up to 85 tons. Mirrored after the Officer Pods for the Zentradi. Just couldn't fit the extra cannons which I would think might be Machine guns or some type of AC/2.

Probably the Wolves . . . maybe the Ghost Bears as well? And I have posted the Standard Fusion Engine (5/8/0) version above in the original post. As for a name . . . well, I wasn't planning to get into a lot of fluff for it, just posting some ideas since our biweekly contest is the Marauder this time around.
Still, how about Thunder Hound? Sure, I've used it before (in a lighter 'Mech), but it fits with Clan Wolf (kind of, anyway).

I like these

Looking at the base chassis, I got to wondering how it would work with other 'Mechs. Playing around with Solaris Skunkworks, I came up with a Warhammer IIC that shows it works pretty good.
Armor protection is greater than the WHM-6R (182 points vs. 160), heat dissipation is better (max overheat +14 vs + 16), max weapons damage is slightly higher (54 vs 52), speed is higher (5/8 vs 4/6), cost is lower (5,766,942 C-Bills vs 6,051,383 C-Bills). Pretty much the only drawback is the BV is higher (1,972 vs 1,299).
Range on the Streak SRM-6 and ER Large Lasers push past what the old WHM-6R could reach, and while the ER Small Lasers have a shorter range, both the Small Pulse Lasers and AP Gauss Rifles have a longer range!
And with 13 DHS (26 sinked), we can fire both ER Large at range while running and remain heat neutral, and in close fire all shorter-ranged guns and one ER Large and be heat-neutral before movement (IF the Streak-6 locks onto target!).
Which, in my opinion, is pretty good for what should be a second-line Clan BattleMech . . . or even a Garrison BattleMech!
Let me know what ya'll think.

Playing around with Solaris Skunkworks, I found you can something that looks and feels like a Marauder . . . on a 35-ton chassis moving at 7/11/0!
Sure, it does less damage than the MAD-3R and has less armor, but is almost twice as fast and packs nearly as much punch (max damage 26 for the Micro Marauder IIC vs 35 for the MAD-3R). On the plus side, you cannot overheat this version and it is very inexpensive (3,398,775 C-Bills and 1,193 BV) for a Clan 'Mech.

Sure, you have to get within 15 hexes to do more than 1-2 points of damage (although to be fair, that 1-2 points of damage (with hit locations rolled separately) lets you reach out to 30 hexes!!!) and within 6 hexes for full damage. Still, you are looking at 'Mech less than half the weight of the MAD-3R that does just 9 points less overall damage, can't overheat, is nearly twice as fast, and has around two-thirds the armor protection.
So, if you need to field a Clan force of Marauder look-a-likes, you got a 35-tonner moving 7/11 and a 55-tonner moving 5/8. And, if you just must have a full-sized one moving 4/6, well, this is what I came up with:

Fantastic armor protection, heat neutral on a running Alpha Strike, and solid damage, plus a rear-firing weapon! What more can you ask for in your Marauder Garrison Star (Marauder IIC, two Mini Marauder IICs, and two Micro Marauder IICs)?
Do you really need anything else?

Nice Micruader!

Interesting Ice Hellion, have any further thoughts behind this Jade Falcon design?
On my design or on other Mini Marauder?

Playing around with Solaris Skunkworks, I found you can something that looks and feels like a Marauder . . . on a 35-ton chassis moving at 7/11/0!
Sure, it does less damage than the MAD-3R and has less armor, but is almost twice as fast and packs nearly as much punch (max damage 26 for the Micro Marauder IIC vs 35 for the MAD-3R). On the plus side, you cannot overheat this version and it is very inexpensive (3,398,775 C-Bills and 1,193 BV) for a Clan 'Mech.
Or you could drop the LB 2-X for an ER Large Laser.

Yours Ice!
I wanted to link it to the Wakazashi.

Interesting Ice, I could see the Falcons doing something like that for a second line Mech.

I took "left-over" from it and focused on the 55 tons category.
I will have to write some fluff down for it.

That would be awesome!

That would be awesome!
And so it should be.
I will have to look in their Remembrance.
-
I look forward to it!
Did any of their founders drive a Marauder?
-
Not among the 4 main founders.
