*Authors note* The entirety of the fiction is based on the assumption that Clan Wolf will become the IlClan.

With the Death of Khan Ward shortly after the The Establishment of Clan Wolf as the IlClan, it was up to his successor, IlKhan Anastasia Kerensky to rearm Clan Wolf and the Absorbed Jade Falcons, Exiled Wolves, two Sea Fox Aimigs and the Spirit Cats in a manner that was both efficient and effective. Technicians both Inner Sphere and Clan presented a myrriad of designs and ideas to the War Council but many used disparate parts and massive logisitical inefficencies.

it was Chief Technician Mika, brought in from the Exiles who presented an idea that was adapted from the joint Development of the Hellstar and Cygnus Battlemechs (both being pumped out at accelerated rates for emergency garrison work). Create a series of Omnimechs that not only used many of the same components, such as actuators, electronics et al but also major equipment such as engines and gyroscopes. Mika continued to point out that the Ford 300 Series engine (and it's XL Derivative) could be used effectivly in five unique weight classes of mechs, six if you included a 150 ton superheavy.

IlKhan Kerensky immediately approved the project, with prototypes to be delivered for approval in 18 months.

The First of the New Omnimechs, the Lycan, had a head start in development. using the stripped down chassis of the Wulfen, the Lycan was stripped of it's stealth armor and replaced with slightly heavier Ferro Lamellor Armor in it's place. while not as able to blur past and among the enemy the enhanced armor protection was a worthwhile trade to many. The Configurations were engineered to permit the Lycan enhanced battlefield control, not crippling the foe, but corralling them like a sheep do herds it ward towards it's pack-mates. the biggest boon was incorporating Improved Advanced Tactical Missiles brought about by the catastrophic invasion of the home clans. through the use of Mag Pulse Warheads the Lycan can prove to be a menace to larger mechs simply through target disruption. a major criticism of the Lycan is it's use of an XL Gyro, which defied the original Proposition of a unified engine and gyroscope. this was overlooked for the Lycan to overcome it's somewhat limited pod space.

The Lycan being the first design is being churned out as quickly as possible and being handed to Hunter-Killer Clusters and Elemental Heavy clusters for transport purposes. it is not expected to entirely replace the Wulfen, which is being kept in limited manufacture for Specialists.

The lead designer of the Mastiff was an engineer from the Federated Suns, and it shows. each configuration is designed to mirror famous inner sphere mechs of the 50 ton class, most of which were favored by the AFFS anyway. despite this, the Mastiff is an excellent strike vehicle, able to manuver rapidly and lay down impressive firepower when needed.

with the absorbed Sea Fox Aimig already volunteering to provide Vulture Mk IVs for the 60 ton slot of the "300XL Project" the 75 ton heavy mech slot was next under development. originally called the "Woodsman II" the Combine Engineers that took over the project named the new mech Hokkaido, after a long extinct species of Japanese Canid. few actual configurations have been designed, as each is being carefully considered for battlefield capabilities.
