Overview:
As StarCorps Industries revitalized production operations around the InnerSphere the company decided to introduce a few new BattleMech concepts based on their most iconic product, the Warhammer. Miniaturizing their flagship BattleMech provided some tantalizing advantages which every Great House except Steiner was interested in exploring. While House Kurita went in a unique direction with their light Hanma the others were intrigued by a fast medium fighter the was made possible by the latest lostech advances. Generous funding was allocated to this project whose more compact frame could more easily generate higher speed for lower cost. Designers eventually proved that they would be able to keep most of the Warhammer’s armament allowing their new Tomahawk to compete even against the high-tech Clan invaders.
Capabilities:
Design work on the Tomahawk came together quickly as many pre-existing components from the Warhammer were used along with a new fifty-ton StarCorps 75 EndoSteel chassis to create this BattleMech. Common components from the WHM-6R included the Leviathan Plus armor plating, the O/P electronic systems, the trademark Holly SRM-6 launcher, both supporting lasers, along with the cockpit and gyroscope. The lack EndoSteel molds on Crofton, Emris IV, and Menke was the only impediment to mass production. Thankfully this obstacle was overcome by imports and investment which eventually enabled those facilities to be upgraded. The 250 Extra Light Engine came from a variety of sources depending on which Great House the StarCorps factory was located in. In Davion space the Magna 250 XL from the ENF-5D Enforcer was used while in Marik space this same engine was utilized from the TBT-7M Trebuchet while House Liao innovatively utilized the Rawlings 250 XL from their advanced Transit Aerospace Fighter in their Tomahawks effectively. These power plants allowed the design to move almost twenty kilometers per hour better then its predecessor while matching Clan OmniMech movement profiles like the Hellbringer. Both Fusigon Longtooth ER PPCs featured on this BattleMech were from the WHM-7M refit package. These main guns provided the Medium ‘Mech with impressive long-range firepower which thanks to sixteen Double Heat Sinks can rain sustained lightning strikes on targets while running at full speed. Mechwarriors are advised to be judicious while using the SRM-6, Medium Laser, and Small Laser while engaging in these maneuvers as overheating can easily occur. Nine tons of armor provides eighty five percent of maximum protection for this fifty-ton war machine which is distributed well. All in all Mechwarriors seem pleased with the Tomahawk even if their Technicians complain that there is little internal space to work on its interior.
Deployment:
The ‘Mech nicknamed the Halfhammer has begun to fill the rosters of InnerSphere units Rimward of Terra. Oriente forces including the prestigious Ducal Guard are now using the Tomahawk which may see combat soon in the Third Marik Civil War. McCarron’s Armored Cavalry have also been resupplied with this war machine to replace battle losses suffered during their liberation of Andurien. Meanwhile the Avalon Hussars and the Crucis Lancers have been issued this ‘Mech by House Davion for service along the Clan front. All militaries are anxiously awaiting after action reports of this promising new BattleMech.
