Stalker IIC and Stalker C
« on: July 31, 2018, 10:31:39 AM »

One of the most prevalent Assault ‘Mechs to be brought along with the SLDF on the Exodus the design was able to flourish during Operation Klondike where the design was commonly seen in all the different Clan Toumans. As the OmniMech was invented by Clan Coyote in 2854 the time of the Stalker was drawing to a close as eventually it was replaced by the Woodsman which was designed by Wolf in 2865. Being relinquished to PGC and Solhama clusters where even eventually by the close of the 30th century all of the existing Stalkers were placed in Brian Caches or slagged for components and materials.

With the Battle of Tukayyid in 3052, Clan Wolf was able to show to a handful of other Clans the tactical and strategic benefits artillery could have on the battlefield with Spheroids. Often derided as artillery doesn’t allow Clan warriors glory on the battlefield as it isn’t geared towards individual battlefield tactics. Only those clans whose philosophy allows for a bending of the interpretation of Zellbrigen have found a home for the use of such weaponry.

Enter the return of the Stalker to modern Clan Toumans. With the Quicksilver trials and the already limited production of the Naga OmniMech. Clan Star Adder has closed the Naga production site on Arcadia for the secondary production site of the newly acquired Linebacker design from Clan Wolf. With the sudden and unexpected demand for Naga's, Clan Star Adder has reached out to Clan Hell’s Horse and Wolf for a joint endeavor to replace, upgrade and eventually produce a new static platform for the delivery of artillery to the battlefield.

Centered around the Arrow IV delivery systems the Stalker IIC mounts a twin battery of the long range system with an impressive 25 rounds per system to rain down on its foes. Outfitted with an additional twin battery of extended range large lasers for foes that are able to find and target the ‘Mech.

Interesting musings on a Clan Stalker and one that fields artillery. Not a horrible choice since an artillery mech is not an honorable position so on an ancient frame it certainly fits. Plus I like the ER Larges in the center torso as it give it a very long reaching zombie feel.

Take a look at masterarminas Dune Stalker for an OmniMech version.

Actually that post was what made me think of it. That and recent Quicksilver trial. Stalker was heralded by the SLDF as an amazing 'Mech yet the Clans never even made a C version in Canon, shocked by that.

Reading up on the Stalker made me look up who invented the Targeting Computer, which made me think where did the inspiration come from for it? The fluff for the Stalker made me think it might have been its inspiration, or at least one of them as I know fluff for other designs also mentions targeting capabilities outside game terms. I almost put one on it but didn't think the cost and weight made it worth it.

Quote
Originally, the Stalker used a special fire-control computer which determined the range to the enemy and suggested the optimal mix of weapons to avoid such a problem occurring, although with the ravages of age, many older 'Mechs lack this vital piece of equipment.

Made me look up fire control computers in real life and their history. How these aren't around automatically on all battlemechs makes me question the technology of the universe so I'll stop now.

Sidenote got to love wiki dived into this and went through all types of pages of technology developed in early 20th century due to war.

That's a pretty Stalker sketch.  I do love me some artillery.

I tried shoe-horning in a pair of Sniper Artillery Pieces into an 85t frame for the Stalker contest, but I had to sacrifice too much to make it work -- either speed, or armored protection.  I think it just barely works on the Cyclops that you proposed, but even then the armor is a little on the thin side for an assault 'Mech.
