Hate to say but that gun is pre spaceflight tech, so fluid gun so be legal

But how much design use does it really get? Is there a design that actually uses this "Innovation"??

And there is a Blazer! What else can we put on a Scorpion?

Same amount as the Blazer?

Actually there are more Mechs with Fluid guns than Blazers. There's a mech with fluid guns in the newer Solaris 7 pack of Mechs.

Ok, ok. So Fluid Guns do exist but in 3052-3 they really have yet to be deployed in combat. I'd like to here why it is now and in the case of the Scopion why is a Quad such a good platform.

Overview
The SCP-2C is a rare variant of the Scorpion that was developed by the Brigadier Corporation factory on Marantha in the Magistracy of Canopus.  In 2782, the Magistracy of Canopus found itself facing a serious problem, when the Free Worlds League halted the sale of military supplies to other nations, citing the need to build up their defense forces in the face of the increased tension in the Inner Sphere.  Among these items that were no longer available was the VOX 330 engine which powered the Scorpion.  Unable to develop their own replacement engine for the VOX 330, Brigadier engineers began to look at other options, including replacing the engine with a smaller one.  The obvious choice was the Core Tek 275, which was produced in the Magistracy for use in the Shadow Hawk.  The new motor would require a new Gyroscope for the mech but fortunately the engineers had a solution in hand.  Brigadier had been developing a new lighter Gyro for the Scorpion when the Star League fell, several copies of which were at the Marantha factory for testing.  While the Gyro did not match up well with the VOX 330, it worked almost perfectly with the lower power Core Tek 275 engine.  The lighter weight engine allowed the design team to make several improvements to the design, which entered production in 2784 and continued to be produced until the factory was destroyed during a pirate raid in 2802.

Capabilities:
The SCP-2C is a very similar to it’s predecessor.  While the replacement of the original VOX engine with the Core Tek has reduced the maximum speed of the design, the designers were able to make numerous improvements to the design, more the offsetting the lower speed.  One of the biggest improvements was the addition of 3 tons of armor plating to the torso and legs of the Scorpion. This armor plating better protects the mech against losing a leg, a serious issue for the design, and better protects the ammo bay for the Short Range Missile Launchers.

The Marvel SRM launcher has been replace by 4 Marklin Mini Missile Packs.  While this provides the mech with 2 additional tubes, the main reason for the change was due to the fact that the Marklin launchers are built in the Magistracy and the Marvel launchers were imported from the Lyran Commonwealth.  With the disruption of interstellar travel, the Brigadier factory was having a difficult time acquiring an adequate supply of the Marvel SRM launchers.

Other changes to the weapons system include the addition of 2 Martell Model 5 Medium Lasers in the center torso and single SperryBrowning Machine Gun in the Left Torso. The machine gun was added to deal with one of the biggest threats to the Scorpion, conventional infantry who are able to get underneath the mech where it’s armor is weakest.  With the additional of all these extra weapons, the designers added 3 additional heat sinks.

Deployment:
The majority of the SCP-2C have been deployed with Magistracy Royal Guards, where they serve as both scouts and scout killers. A few of the mechs have been assigned to the Canopian Fusiliers, where they fulfill similar roles.  The Taurian Concordat was interested in acquiring the design, but with the destruction of the factory on Marantha those plans never came to fruition.

Variants:
There is only a single variant of the SCP-2C.  The SCP-3C is designed as a fire support unit for the MAF.  The PPC, SRMs and 2 heatsinks are removed and replaced with 2 Holly LRM 10s, each with 2 tons of ammo. The LRMs are mounted on the torso and set so that they can provide indirect fire while the Scorpion takes advantage of it’s low height to hide behind hills, walls and buildings.  The design retains both Medium Lasers and the Machine Gun, but relocates one of the lasers to cover the mechs rear.

The SCP-4C and SCP-5C are descendants of the SCP-2C Scorpion which entered production just before the start of the Succession Wars.  The SCP-2C went out of production in 2802 when the factory on Marantha was destroyed in a pirate attack.  Over the next few centuries, the numbers of SCP-2C dwindled as many were lost during the Succession Wars.  It looked like the design was headed for extinction, when in the late 3040s a Magistracy salvage team operating on Marantha located a data core containing Brigadier's engineering files on the Scorpion.  The Magistrix, realizing the value of the find, quickly funded the reconstruction of the factory on Marantha.  With Brigadier long out of business, Majesty Metals & Manufacturing took over operations of the new factory.  Production of the SCP-2C was resumed in late 3050. However with the recovery of advanced technologies across the Inner Sphere, the Magistrix realized that the MAF would need to keep up if they wanted to avoid being outclassed.  She quickly dispatched diplomatic teams to both the Capellan Confederation and the Free Worlds League and tasked them with acquiring the needed equipment.  Through a combination of diplomacy, bribery and blackmail they managed to acquire advanced technologies for use on the upgraded Scorpion.

The first new model off the the production line was the SCP-4C, an upgrade of the older SCP-2C.  Retaining the same chassis and engine as the older design, the -4C significantly upgrades the mech's weapons, armor and cooling systems.  The original Parti-Kill PPC has been replaced with the Ceres Arms Smasher ER PPC from the Capellan Confederation.  Supporting the main gun are 3 Hovertec SRM 2 Streak Launchers from the FWL.  Backing up these weapons are 2 medium lasers and a machine gun for use against infantry.

While the new Extended Range PPC provides a longer punch, it carries a high cost in heat.  To help compensate for this, the mech carries 12 double heat sinks. The heat sinks come from manufacturers in the Capellan Confederation.  The armor has been significantly upgraded with 11 tons of Jolassa-328 Ferro Fibrous armor.  Much of the increased protection is found on the legs of the mech, protecting them from damage.  The ammo bins of the mech are protected by CASE systems.

The new Scorpion has been met with great enthusiasm by mechwarriors of the MAF.  It has been deployed with the Magistracy Royal Guards as both a scout and scout hunter.

Recently MM&M has introduced a second model of the Scorpion based on the old SCP-3C fire support model.  Removing the PPC and Streaks, the design makes limited use of new technology, simplify production and reducing costs.  The main weapons are 2 LRM 10 launchers mounted on the mech's toros.  Each launcher is fed by a 2 ton ammo bin, which is protected by a CASE system.  As heat is less of an issue, 2 heatsinks have been removed, but the mech does retain the double strength heatsinks of its sister design.  Also removed is a ton of armor, mostly from the mech's legs.  Finally one of the medium lasers has been relocated to cover the real of the mech.

The AFFC's SCP-2 family of mechs has appeared as something of a surprise.  During the waning days of the Third Succession War, the LCAF began to scrap its remaining Scorpions.  It is therefore surprising that the Lyran side of the Federated Commonwealth has since returned the Scorpion to production.  Following the 4th Succession War, the Lyrans captured Procyon, site of Brigadier's old Scorpion factory.  Badly damaged and abandoned during the 2nd Succession War, the factory was thought to have little left if value.  However, during a survey of the complex, a NAIS team managed to recover a number of data files for the Scorpion.  These then languished in the AFFC databanks until the arrival of the Clans.

The Clans technological advantages put the Inner Sphere at a great disadvantage.  One of the biggest problems the AFFC faced was losses to its reconnaissance units.  The light mechs traditionally used in these roles found themselves outclassed by Clan units and suffered heavy losses.  In an effort to find a solution to this the AFFC began to look at heavier mechs that could be used in the recon role.  A number of designs were proposed for this, including upgrades of the Phoenix Hawk, Griffen and Wolverine.  The most unusual entry came from Defiance Industries.  Using the data recovered from Procyon, they proposed a new family of mechs based on the Scorpion.  While there were some concerns about the ride issues of the Scorpion, it was felt that the mechs speed, similar to that of the Commando, and low profile made it ideal as a scout mech.

In order to save weight for the necessary upgrades to the mech, the old Vox 330 engine has been replaced by the new Defiance 330XL engine.  While take up more space in the mech's torso, it freed up significant mass for other upgrades. The weapons have been update with more modern versions.  The old particle cannon has been replaced with a Defiance 1001 ER PPC, increasing the mech's range.  The 6 tube SRM launcher has been replaced with a pair of Coventry T4H Streak Racks.  While reducing the number of tubes, this increases the ammo efficiency, helping to ensure the mech does not run out of ammo during long deployments away from its base.  Rounding out the new weapons are a single flamer to protect against infantry attacks, as well as provide the mech with an incendiary capability and a rear mounted medium laser to protect the mech from anyone try to pursue it.

The new weapons generate significant heat and so the cooling system has been greatly improved. The mech features 12 Double Heatsinks, which during trials have proven to be more the adequate.

As the Scorpion is intended to serve as a scout for the AFFC, it is equipped with a state of the art electronics array.  A Guardian ECM suite, combined with a Beagle Active Probe help hide the mech from enemy units, while allowing it locate the enemy.  The Scorpion also carries a TAG system, allowing it call in artillery fire on enemy targets.

Loaded with advanced technologies and featuring a very high C-Bill cost, the Scorpion's armor protection has been significantly improved.  Carrying 10.5 tons of the latest ferro-fibrous armor, the mech has over 60% greater protection then the original Scorpion.

The new Scorpion has proven very effective as a scout, and has spawned a number of variants.

Re: Optimizing the Scorpion

The SCP-2FSU is the first variant of the SCP-2S that was built by Defiance Industries. Realizing the value of the Scorpion's stable firing platform, it was determined that mech would be an ideal platform for a fire support unit carrying LRMs.  Starting with the basic chassis of the SCP-2S, the designers removed most of the weapons in favor of a pair of Coventry Star Fire LRM 15s.  These missile racks are mounted on the torso of the Scorpion in a mounting similar to that of the Hunter Tank.  This allows the missiles to fired indirectly at targets while the Scorpion hides behind hills, buildings or other terrain features.  To ensure there is an adequate ammo supply, each LRM rack has a 2 ton ammo bay that is protected by a CASE system.

The secondary weapons are fairly limited and designed mainly to protect the mech against lighter units that may attempt to close with it.  A single Defiance B3M medium Laser is mounted in the front left leg, while the design retains the rear mounted medium laser of the SCP-2S.  The Zippo flamer is also retained, but has been relocated along side the rear firing medium laser. Inspired in part by the Hunter tank, this weapon is mainly intended to create fires to hide the mech while it is withdrawing from the battle field.

With the remove of the PPC and its replacement with LRMs, the designers were able to remove 2 heatsinks.  They also removed 2.5 tons of armor plating.  While this greatly reduces the armor protection of the Scorpion, this was considered acceptable as the mech is not expected to engage other units in direct combat.

The new Scorpion has entered production along side the SCP-2S.  The AFFC has begun deploying Scorpion Recon Lances. These are composed of 2 SCP-2S and 2 SCP-2FSUs.  The scouts are forward deployed to locate the enemy, while the FSUs can provide covering fire for them.

Ok, ok. So Fluid Guns do exist but in 3052-3 they really have yet to be deployed in combat. I'd like to here why it is now and in the case of the Scopion why is a Quad such a good platform.

Was never really going to use this as a entry just thought Acid weapons Scorpion named mech perfect match. Retcon stuff I think has Fluid guns. But a reason would easily enough be that Fire doesn't work on Elementals while acid was found to work well on ferro fibrous armor. The scorpion is known as an infantry support 'Mech wouldn't that make it perfect for fighting elementals that would be engaging them.

So the NAIS knew this weakness and was attempting multiple delivery methods to find which was best and what better place than solaris

Following the success of the SCP-2S, the AFFC began to look at other variants of the Scorpion.  One of these efforts resulted in the Fire Support Unit, another resulted in the SCP-2CA Close Assault Unit.  During one of the idea sessions, one of the engineers at Defiance Industries suggested mounting a Defiance Mech Hunter autocannon, similar to the Hetzer.  It was felt that the Scorpion would provide a very stable firing platform, while it's low silhouette would make able to hide in ambush positions.

Using the same chassis and engine as the SCP-2S, the designers mounted the massive Mech Hunter autocannon in the right torso, replacing the ER PPC and streak racks.  The mech is supplied with 3 tons of ammo for the massive gun.  The ammo is stored in a CASE protected ammo bin in the mech's left torso.   The large size of the gun, combined with the limited space on the Scorpion limited the secondary weaponry to a single rear mounted flamer.  As with the SCP-2FSU, this weapon was intended to create smoke screens when the mech is withdrawing and discourage pursuit by enemy units.  As the mech is intended to strike from ambush positions it mounts a Guardian ECM to help it hide.

Unlike the SCP-2S, the -2CA mounts standard heatsinks, even with the heat generated by the large autocannon there is little chance of the mech overheating.  The armor plating is 10 tons of Starshield A.  The combination of the large autocannon and limited space of quad type mechs prevented the use of more advanced ferro-fibrous compounds.

The SCP-2CA prototype was put through field trials where it performed exceptionally well.  The mech was able to quickly move across the battlefield and find hiding spots behind hills or trees.  The mech would then ambush other mechs when the passed, inflicting heavy damage to all but the heaviest mechs.  There were some complaints about the lack of secondary weaponry, but otherwise the mech was very well received by the test pilots.  The mech quickly earned the name of the Stalking Scorpion for its ability to hunt down and destroy other mechs on the battlefield.

SCP-2S Scorpion

While the SCP-2FC was hailed as a wonderful scout (and scout hunter), the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces was not quite satisfied with the design.  As a result, Defiance Industries created a second Scorpion produced on Furillo to meet the needs of the LCAF commanders.

Removing the jump jets and all weapon systems (as well as the two additional double-strength heat sinks), the design team was able to accommodate a Gauss Rifle to the chassis, along with two tons of ammunition.  While this provided excellent long-range firepower, the design team at Defiance decided to also incorporate Endo-Steel II internal structure, which freed up enough tonnage to include a Marvel Six-Pack SRM-6 launcher, a ton of ammunition, and CASE.

Although not as maneuverable as the SCP-2FC, the SCP-2S provided the LCAF with a fast-moving platform which mounted a Gauss Rifle . . . something the Old Guard of the Lyran officer corps desperately desired.  Since the new design not longer generated a great amount of heat, Defiance replaced the more expensive double-strength heat sinks with older standard models.

SCP-2Sb Scorpion

Some in the LCAF were still not happy with the upgrades for the SCP-2S.  Desiring an even more damaging weapon, they lobbied Defiance Industries to place a Class 20 Autocannon on the new Scorpion.  Desginated as the SCP-2Sb, this version returns to a standard chassis, but upgrades the armor to eleven tons of ferro-fibrous, for nearly maximum armor protection on a 55-ton quad chassis.  The heat sinks are restored to double-strength models, but  (like the SCP-2S) this variant lacks jump jets.

However, it mounts two Defiance B3M Medium Lasers (left torso) and a Defiance Mech Hunter AC-20 autocannon (right/center torso) with three tons of ammunition.  This armament package on a 'Mech chassis moving at speeds of 97.2 kilometres per hour met every benchmark for the portion of the LCAF officer corps that pushed for such a design.  And the armor protection (as well as the heat neutrality of this new Scorpion) made it a dream come true for many LCAF officers.

While the SCP-2S has priority (mainly due to the influence of Hanse Davion) in production, a limited number of SCP-2Sb are produced on Furillo each year.  These new Scorpions are widely sought after by MechWarriors of the Lyran Commonwealth, and Defiance has plans to increase production by 3055.

AS of right now, I have no legitimate submissions (fluffless) to post. I have no inspiration at this point and just a little too much stress right now.
