Okay last one. (I think)

The latest version of the Scorpion to come from Furillo is the SCP-2H Scout Hunter model.  Designed to counter the Clan's light scouts the mech removes the ER PPC of the SCP-2S and replaces it with a Defiance Disintegrator LB Class autocannon.  Capable of fire shotgun rounds, the LB-10X has proven effective against the fast moving clan light mechs.  In field trials it has been shown that the LB-10X is more likely to hit a fast moving target with at least some of its rounds due to the shotgun scatter effect, unlike traditional auto cannons. 

The design also removes all of the Streak racks and electronics of the SCP-2S and instead carries 5 Defiance B3M Medium Lasers spread across the mech's torso.  Once the Defiance Disintegrator has ripped open holes in the enemy target, the B3Ms are used to follow up and hit internal components.  This weapons array has also proven effective against the Clan's Elemental Battle Armor.  Rounding out the weapon array is a flamer for protection against infantry.

The SCP-2H carries the same armor protection as the SCP-2S, with 10.5 tons of Lexington Ltd High Grade Ferro-Fibrous armor.  Heat is handled by 10 Double Heatsinks which have proven able to handle the high amounts of heat generated by firing all of the medium lasers simultaneously.

Okay I got inspired. There maybe one more after this.

The SCP-2K is not a new mech but rather an extensive rebuild of the Combine's existing SCP-1N models.  Many people are surprised to discover that the Combine possesses a large number of Scorpions, second only to the Free Worlds League.  That is because few people remember that the Combine had one of the only two Scorpion factories to survive the 1st Sucession War.  The Brigadier plant, located on Telos IV was destroyed in the early days of the 2nd Succession War.  However before it was destroyed it produced a large number of Scorpions for the DCMS, many of which still soldier on today. 

In the 3040s, with the recovery of lost Star League technologies thanks to the Helm Memory Core, the Combine began to re-examine a number of previously destroyed facilities to see if they could be restored and returned to full operation.  The Brigadier factory on Telos IV was found to be incapable of producing new mechs, but it appeared it could be restored into an overhaul facility for the Combine's Scorpions.  The factory was acquired by Luthien Armor Works, who quickly moved to reactivate the factory.  By 3050 the company had restored as much as they could and began rebuilding the Combine's Scorpions with new technologies.

The upgrade Scorpion features extensive upgrades to it systems.  The biggest change is the replacement of the old Vox 330 engine with the new Hermes 330XL engine.  The Hermes 330XL, a down rated version of the Hermes 360XL used on the Grand Dragon, saves a significant amount of weight for other improvements, while retaining the mech's high speed.

When developing the upgraded Scorpion, it was decided to turn the mech into a close assault unit.  The Anderson PPC was removed and the mech was equipped with 4 Bical 6 SRM Racks, 2 on each side of the Scorpion's torso. [Editor's Note:  The Marvel Six-Load was removed and replaced with a Bical 6 to simplify maintenance].  Each launcher is supplied with a ton of ammunition, but even so many mechwarriors have complained about the Scorpion's limited endurance.  Backing up the SRMs and 2 Diverse Optic Type 20 Medium Lasers in the center torso. Originally the mech was intended to carry a third medium laser in the head but this was replaced with a C3 slave unit by order of the Gunji-no-Kanrei Theodore Kurita. 

The other changes to the Scorpion involve upgrades to the cooling system and armor.  The heatsinks have been replaced with double strength units, ensure adequate cooling for the mech.  The armor has been replaced with 11 tons of New Samarkand Royal Ferro-Fibrous armor.  This provides nearly double the protection of the older SCP-1N. The only other changes made to the mech were to upgrade the electronics to use the Sipher Security Plus Com System and Matabushi Sentinel Targeting system. This was done mainly to simplify logistics for the DCMS, as these systems are used on the majority of the mechs produced in the Combine.

Following the introduction of the SCP-2K, the Combine began to look for a mech that could carry the C3 Master Computer in light and medium companies.  Luthien Armor Works was quick to propose another variant of the Scorpion.  Featuring the same engine and armor arrangement as the SCP-2K, the new model has a different weapons array then the -2K.  The SCP-2Km retains the PPC of the original Scorpion but upgrades it to the longer range Lors Light 2 ER PPC.  However due to shortages of the Lords Light 2 and the higher priority of other programs, including the Panther and Grand Dragon some of the SCP-2Km's may have to retain their Anderson Armaments PPC until it can be replaced at a later date. Supporting the ER PPC are a pair of Long Fire V LRM 5 racks mounted on the left torso. These provide the mech with additional long range fire power and complement the PPC.  For close in defense the mech carries 2 Diverse Optics Type 20 Medium Laser in the same mounting as the SCP-2K. 

The center piece of the new mech is the C3 Master Computer that it carries.  This allows the mech to link up with other units in its lance and share their targeting systems, improving accuracy.  There has been some suggestion about removing one of the medium lasers and replacing it with a C3 Slave unit. This would allow the Scorpions to be connected to a company level C3 network. 

Currently the SCP-2Km is being produced at a rate of 1 out of every 5 or 6 Scorpions that are refitted at the LAW Telos IV plant.

As distained as the Scorpion is amongst many Mechwarriors the design has earned a soft spot with militias across the Inner Sphere. With budget tight the design has been purchased for a long period of time by Planets across the realm of the Federated Commonwealth. With the formation of RCTs under Melissa Davion the Scorpion became an integrated portion of many commands as infantry support Mechs. Often modified due to the exorbitant costs associated with its bulky engine many commands have downgraded to the more common 275 engines found on many of the other 55 ton designs. While there are many custom designs floating around the different RCTs with the discovery of LosTech an universal design was ordered by the AFFC Quartermasters for replacement and procurement. Ultimately the standard of the 2nd FedCom RCT was chosen after a lengthy process. Able to integrate well with Infantry and in pinches delivery infantry in cramped though well armored conditions. While lightly armed compared to any other similar tonnage design it provides superior armor coverage, and the most important factor to the brass was that it was extremely cheap and had little lostech upgrades that were needed for frontline designs. Showing its effectiveness quickly vs Capellan forces during the battle of Ares in the War of 3039 the design has jokingly been called the Love Bug by non Scorpion pilots due to the affection infantry units show the design when supporting their squads. The RCT is not produced at any facility and is a field refit design.

SCP-2CS Scorpion

While the Scorpion was never produced on Terra during the Star League, ComStar had long since acquired the design schematics from Brigadier Corporation and was able to being producing their own Scorpion variant in the wake of the Clan Invasion.  While the design was not one of the first that the ComGuards put into renewed production, interest in the Scorpion began to peak as Brigadier Corporation and Defiance Industries produced their own upgraded variants.

In 3053, the Precentor Martial authorized Skobel MechWorks to begin production on the new SCP-2CS.  This design would retain the same type of armament as the Star League era SCP-1N (but replaces the old PPC with a newly built Kinslaughter H-Class ER PPC and adds Artemis IV fire-control systems to the SRM-6, now a Harvester 20K produced on Terra).  Armor protection increased to eleven tons of standard armor plating, but there simply was not enough available tonnage to add CASE.

The number of heat sinks was retained at ten (all banked within the engine core), but ComStar installed double-strength heat sinks alleviating all but a tiny fraction of the heat produced. Unlike the SCP-2FC, the ComGuards chose not to add jump jets to the design, but instead opted for a larger, more powerful LTV 385 extra-light fusion engine.

This massive engine increased the ground speed of the SCP-2CS to 118.8 kilometers per hour . . . allowing this 55-ton war-machine to keep pace with a 40-ton Assassin or 35-ton Jenner.  This increase in ground speed also gives ComStar a reasonably effective and robust 'Mech that can match all but the very fastest Clan 'Mechs in tactical speed on the battlefield.

To accommodate the LTV 385XL, ComStar had to design a new Endo-Steel II internal skeleton for their Scorpions.

Although expensive, the SCP-2CS Scorpion is proving itself highly effective as a scout leader and scout hunter on the modern battlefield.  While not as well armed as Clan 'Mechs, it does the job good enough, especially when deployed in pairs.  Indeed, to date when the ComGuards assigns a SCP-2CS to a ComGuard unit, it has always assigned two who operate together on the battlefield supporting each other and the remainder of their Level II. 

The great speed, rugged toughness, and decent armament of the design make it likely that Skobel will continue production for some time to come and these new Scorpions will probably become a mainstay within the ComGuards for the foreseeable future.

I will keep my messages short to avoid detection by the Adler of an encrypted transmission.

You were right, something is going on on Gibson and the Gibson Federated BattleMechs facilities are displaying an unusual activity with the building of new production lines and a strange offer. They issued earlier this year a call to all the owners of Scorpion BattleMechs offering them full upgrade with advanced tech at a serious discount price (I have heard rumours of price down from 50 to 75%) in exchange for a full analysis of their ‘Mech, for which full data was lost in the destruction of the Brigadier factory in Warez.

Since the armies of the Inner Sphere had and still have little love for this 4 legged ‘Mech, it seems the owners of their family ‘Mech jumped on this opportunity to get job done for them by a well-established Marik company. According to my estimates at least 40% of the remaining Scorpions are here waiting for an upgrade.

Brigadier Corporation must have given something to Gibson Federated BattleMechs and they are trying to come out with complete specifications for the Scorpion.
I managed to get into the restricted area where they are retrofitting the old Scorpions and I saw the engines going through a process of re-engineering. I know that one of their upgrades is putting Double Heat Sinks in the old VOX 330 but what I saw was far more elaborated than that with engines being totally build anew.

I might have been spotted so unless something big comes out, I will remain silent for a while.

I managed to get hired in the factory retrofitting the Scorpions.
3 models are being produced, the 1L, the 1P and the 1M and all of them are “simple” retrofits (simple for a factory that is).
From what I could see, all the systems and weapons are being produced in the Free Worlds League and most of them (save for the newest systems but since the “new” Scorpions are retrofit, access to them is not a problem) are coming for surplus of models no longer mass produced.

Their armour has been upgraded to 7.5 tons of Ferro-Fibrous improving its protection and when carrying ammo, they also pack a CASE to shield it.
Except for the 1M, the weapons are still placed in the right torso and the ammo is in the left torso.

The engine remains the same but has been given Double Heat Sinks through the process earlier described.

Both the 1L and the 1P carry a sting in the form of a Magna Metals Inc Mark VI Binary Laser for the 1L and a Magna Firestarter ER PPC for the 1P (which is the classical upgrade).
Secondary weapons are different, the 1L carries 3 Small Lasers to deal with smaller targets while the 1P is a pure fire support ‘Mech with a small LRM-5, a Delta Dart one common in the Free Worlds League.

The 1M takes a new role for the Scorpion probably designed to take advantage of the quad chassis to hide behind hills and fire indirectly with 4 LRM-5. Its two tons of ammo are not really much but its speed should allow it to retreat to resupply without any problems.

3 new Scorpions are being produced here with the brand new engines, a VOX 330 XL.
I could see them on a field exercise and in spite of this, they managed to keep up for short periods of time with Locusts. A specific mechanism must be used.

The angular angles show that Ferro-Fibrous Armour is being used but since I couldn’t get access to the new lines, I can’t say how much is being used.

One of the three models seems to pack 3 Large Lasers rotating like a machine gun of old probably to increase their cooling capacity, another one packs a Gauss Rifle and probably some EW equipment as my electronics went out when I tried to measure its heat signature. The third one seems to pack an advanced autocannon and some LRMs.

Their profile and speed make them perfect to either hunt down recon ‘Mechs or sit in ambush waiting for bigger preys or support the infantry like the original Scorpion did.

However my guts tell me that something is wrong. The number of new Scorpions being launched doesn’t match with the production capacity of the new engine.
