Re: Optimizing the Warhammer
« Reply #30 on: June 16, 2021, 01:34:38 PM »

Author's Note: This is my re-worked WHM-7D that was in the works when Drakensis posted  one that was nearly identical to what I was working on. Changes needed to be made and were. Here's the final product

The Warhammer has been a favorite of the Davion military since the days it replaced, along with the Marauder, the Battleaxe and Hammerhands as the most common heavy 'Mechs in AFFS. With the discovery and dissemination of the Helm Core, the R&D department at all Star Corps locations throughout the Successor States set about about designing faction specific versions of a new and improved Warhammer. The facility on Crofton came up with the following for the Federated Suns half of the AFFC. With the use of a new extralight engine to save weight it made it possible to mount autocannons as secondary weapon in place of the SRM6 launcher. Standard upgrades include a pair of ER PPCs to replace the old standard models, while the single heat sinks have been by new double heat sinks. Additionally armor protection has been increased by twenty-five percent which gives the Warhammer the protection is so richly deserves. The machineguns have been stripped away while the supporting laser array remains unchanged. The supporting weapon on the WHM-7D is Mydron Excel LB 10-X autocannon which capable of firing both solid and cluster shot, though the cluster rounds will be the most beneficial once the ER PPCs have punched sufficient holes in enemy 'Mechs. As an added surprise a Garret-Guardian Interface @B ECM suite has also been fited to befuddle enemy targeting systems.

The WHM-7D-DC is the command version of the WHM-7D and features a command console that has been used, sparingly, on the venerable WHM-6R. To make room the console the LB 10-X autocannon has been replaced by a standard Mydron C Class 5 autocannon and an additional double heat sink. No other changes were made. Currently, several Crucis Lancers regiments have expressed an interest in the command variant.

Re: Optimizing the Warhammer
« Reply #31 on: June 16, 2021, 02:05:57 PM »

Like their corporate counterparts on Crofton, the engineers at the Son Hoa facility developed their own version of the ancient Warhammer. Using many of the same components as the WHM-7D, the WHM-8S also uses the 280 XL, ER PPCs and double heat sinks. The main diffenece is the use of pulsed lasers and missiles as secondary weapons. The laser battery features a pair each of small and medium pulse lasers supplied by Defiance Industries (as well as the ER PPCs). As for the missile battery, there are three different applications which have two pair of launchers mounted in the side torsos. SRM4 and LRM5 are mounted, either in a pair each or mixed pair. This gives the Mechwarrior a bit of flexibility, especially as the launch pods are plug-and-play units and can be changed out fairly quickly as the mission needs change. To protect against incoming missile fire a SureFire 444 AMS has been mounted above and behind the cockpit and is fed by two separate ammo magazines.

Re: Optimizing the Warhammer
« Reply #32 on: June 16, 2021, 02:32:58 PM »

Not to be outdone by their intracorporate rivals, the design team at the Emris IV-based StarCorps Industries went on a completely different tangent. As the Free Worlds League still lacked sufficient facilities to produce PPCs of any stripe, they chose to replace the PPCs with a pair of binary laser cannons (BLC) developed by CBD Corporation on Negushevo. While heavier and shorter ranged than the PPC, the BLC has greater stopping power. Thanks to the Helm Core, the heat issues can be handled by the new double heat sinks. Like the WHM-7D, an ECM suite is mounted to distract the enemy while the pulse lasers used by the WHM-8S are also carried by the WHM-7B. The original SRM6 from the WHM-6R has been retained for added close-in firepower. Thirteen tons of standard protect the WHM-7B and its pilot.

Ronin Incorporated has been refitting old WHM-6Rs with command consoles since the fall of the Star League, so they were the likely choice to do the same for the WHM-7B. In order to do this conversion, it became neceessary to down grade the medium pulse laser to standard mediums and replace the SRM6 with an LRM5. This freed up the weight needed for the console.

Re: Optimizing the Warhammer
« Reply #33 on: June 16, 2021, 02:53:21 PM »

A bit late to the corporate party, the team on Menke worked very quickly in a short period of time to come up with the WHM-7L Warhammer aka The Zombie of Menke. Unlike the other submissions within the StarCorps family, the extra-light engine was not used. The standard 280 fusion engine has been redesigned to carry the re-discovered double heat sinks (of which a total of nineteen are carried) so that heat build up from the energy-based battery could be more readily handled. The weapons battery consist of a brace each of the following weapons: the Martell ER large laser, the Firmir-built Magna-designed small and medium pulse lasers and Flame Tech K-213 flamer. IN addition to these weapons the Apple-Churchill Golden Shield ECM suite is mounted in the center torso. Armor protection is provided by 12.5 tons of standard Leviathon Plus armor which has been on the Warhammer since they were introduced centuries ago

Last entry for me.

A factory-level refit proposal for all extant Warhammers within the DCMS. A major refit that sees the installation of a new 280XL engine that makes room for the application of the increasingly less rare double heat sinks to help fend off the heat build up of the energy-based weaponry. The main weapons are a pair of Lord's Light 2 ER PPCs which are backed up by a quartet each of pulsed and standard medium supplied by Victory Weapons. So as to be integrated into C3-based lance a Tanadi Citizen C3 Slave unit has been mounted next to the cockpit.

The WHM-8KM is a C3 Master computer equipped version of the WHM-8K. To make room for the C3 Master the C3 Slave, a medium pulse laser and two heat sink had to be removed. It is hoped that theae new Warhammers will be joining the ranks of the Genyosha, Ryu-ken and Swords of Light regiments once approved by the DCMS.

Re: Optimizing the Warhammer
« Reply #35 on: June 16, 2021, 05:52:18 PM »

Was playing around the Large Laser builds, and found a lowtech upgrade to the Warhammer perfect for a periphery power.  It's actually surprisingly effective given that the only SLDF-era lostech in the design is the double heat sink technology.

Type: WHM-7OA Warhammer
Production: Outworlds Alliance (Mountain Wolf Battlemechs, Alpheratz)
Combat Value: 1712 BV
Total Cost: 6,611,499 C-Bills (including x1.7  tonnage premium)

Internal Struc (Std): 7t
Engine: (VOX 280): 16t
  Walking: 4
  Running: 6
  Jumping: 4           4t
Heat Sinks: 13(26): 3t
Gyro/Cockpit (std): 6t
Armor Factor (Std): 13t (208 pips)

Head 3/9
Center Torso 22/30/11
R/L Torso 15/22/8
R/L Arm 11/22
R/L Leg 15/27

Quirks: Rugged (2), Searchlight, Stable, Ubiquitous

3x Large Lasers (6cr, 15t) RA/RT/LA
6x Medium Lasers (6cr, 6t) 3RT/3LT

A durable and widely produced ‘Mech like the Warhammer can be found in virtually every military in the Inner Sphere, including the Outworlds Alliance, which boasts several dozen Warhammers of various vintages, most imported are acquired from the former Federated Suns (now Commonwealth).  Although a popular and effective design, older Succession-Wars era Warhammers can be sharply limited by heat venting with their single heat sinks, as well as constantly running the risk of catastrophic ammunition explosions from their many ballistic weapons.  Given that the lion’s share of military funding in the Alliance goes toward aerospace units, the Alliance Military Corps sought a way to eliminate this ammunition dependence, thus reducing both the logistical costs of their heavy ‘Mech units, as well as the the risk of ammo explosions.

Both Alliance Defenders Ltd and Mountain Wolf Battlemechs of Alpheratz took on the challenge, and at trials in 3049, the Mountain Wolf refit won the Alliance contract – it was low-cost, low-tech (with only the use of recovered lostech ‘freezer’ double heat sinks, already in production at Mountain Wolf), and with only laser weaponry equipped, and increased the armored protection to over 95% of its theoretical maximum with an additional three tons of Longanecker PlastiSteel, a Mountain Wolf brand.  All changes were aimed at maximizing the ‘Mech’s tremendous battlefield endurance, truly taking advantage of the Warhammer design’s famed ruggedness and ability to deploy for lengthy periods without regular maintenance.  Mountain Wolf even fitted Pitban LFT-50 jumpjets (already in production for their popular Merlin ‘Mech) into their proposal, dramatically increasing the mobility and versatility of their Warhammer WHM-7OA refit.

The 7OA downgrades the long-barreled (and somewhat tempermental) Donal PPCs, replacing them with Lushann Redbeam Large Lasers, a highly reliable and extremely damage-resistant native Outworld Alliance design that is in wide use throughout the AMC’s aerospace corps.  The Holly SRM -rack is also replaced with another Redbeam Large Laser, giving the 7OA a long-ranged punch that is potentially 20% greater than the classic WHM-6R.  An array of six torso-mounted Lushann Type 2 Medium Lasers provide a fearsome close-ranged punch, with the Mountain Wolf recommending that Mechwarriors fire three Type 2s in place of a single Redbeam at close ranges – the heat spike is otherwise considerable, despite the thirteen freezers fitted to the upgraded 7OA, but in emergencies an Alliance ‘Mechwarrior still has the option to generate a truly tremendous alpha-strike, secure in the knowledge that the 7OA is in absolutely no danger of ‘cooking off’ any ammunition.  Since starting refits in late 3050, Mountain Wolf has upgraded just over 60% of the Warhammers in the AMC, with another 10% still scheduled to undergo the surprisingly popular 7OA refit as their parent units cycle through Alpheratz in the coming year.

Was trying to mimic the Macross Destroid (Tomahawk) variant with missile launchers.  The options were to either reduce engine size, or go with a very pricey XL engine, and I thought this would make a pretty nasty militia 'Mech for something like the Word of Blake Protectorate -- thus the connection with Terra/Keystone below.

Type: WHM-7EW Warhammer
Production: Free Worlds League (Earthwerks Incorporated refit, Keystone)
Combat Value: 1665 BV
Total Cost: 6,293,740 C-Bills (including x1.7  tonnage premium)

Internal (Endo): 3.5t
Engine: (GM 210): 9t
  Walking: 3
  Running: 5
Heat Sinks: 13(26): 3t
Gyro/Cockpit (std): 6t
Armor Factor (Std): 13.5t (216 pips)

Head 3/9
Center Torso 22/32/11
R/L Torso 15/22/8
R/L Arm 11/22
R/L Leg 15/30

Quirks: Rugged (2), Searchlight, Stable, Ubiquitous

2x Large Lasers (4cr, 10t) RA/LA
2x LRM15+Artemis (8cr, 16t) RT/LT
4x Ammo (LRM) 32 (4cr, 4t) RT/LT
2x CASE (2cr, 1t) RT/LT
2x Medium Pulse Lasers (2cr, 4t) RT/LT

Although Ronin Incorporated released the official Free Worlds variant of the Warhammer in 3047, it was clear to nearly all observers that Ronin’s Wallis facility was simply not capable of keeping up with demand for their new product, as it was barely more than an upgraded refit and assembly facility.  Nimakachi Fusion filled in some of the gap, but it was nevertheless a surprise to most industry observers when Earthwerks Incorporated of Keystone announced in 3052 that they were producing refits of factory-fresh Warhammer WHM-6R designs.  Although Earthwerks did not publicize the source of these new ‘Mechs, analysts quickly determined that they were a StarCorps-Terra product, shipped directly to Keystone almost completely disassembled – including myomers, gyro, cockpit, actuators, comms, T/T, and armor, but lacking a chassis, a fusion engine, or armaments.

Earthwerks Keystone was assembling the components into completed ‘Mechs and adding their own components, releasing the factory refit as the WHM-7EW.  Interestingly, they were not using a VOX or GM 280 fusion engine, instead downgrading to a GM 210, reducing the top speed of their ‘Mech to a modest 54kph, comparable to an assault design – the stated explanation was to reduce costs to customers for a ‘Mech intended to be a pure fire-support design (despite generous lostech upgrades, the 7EW is a mere 200K C-Bills pricier than a new WHM-6R, but with approximately double the long-range throw weight).  Thirteen double heat sinks – produced on Keystone – provided generous cooling for the ‘Mech.  Earthwerks also unveiled a Corean Model 101BLP EndoSteel chassis, suggesting further coordination with Vining Engineering’s design team on Solaris VII (the same materials would re-appear in 3054 as the chassis for the Grand Titan assault ‘Mech).

The armaments were also a major departure from past Warhammer designs.  Instead of Donal PPCs, the 7EW fields a set of Diverse Optics Type 20 Large Lasers, effectively turning the ‘Mech’s arm-mounted guns into secondary weapons.  The 7EW’s primary firepower comes from its paired Zeus LRM-15 launchers with integrated Artemis IV fire control systems, each fed by two tons of CASE-protected ammunition – predating the release of Earthwerk’s Apollo fire-support ‘Mech the following year.  Between the LRMs and the Large Lasers, the 7EW can put out a truly ferocious amount of ranged fire support.

Two Diverse Optics Type 20P Medium Pulse Lasers provide some additional short-ranged firepower, and the entire machine is protected by a novel fiber-foam armor blend named as “Maximillian 44” – again predating the release of the Apollo ‘Mech the following year.  In all, the weapons systems and components suggested that Earthwerks was using the opportunity to field-test equipment for future Earthwerks products like the Apollo and Grand Titan, while also churning out low-cost fire-support ‘Mechs to fill the massive demand for reliable heavy ‘Mechs (like the Warhammer).  Some observers did note that Earthwerks Keystone did seem to be producing far more of the 7EW than they admitted to selling, but given how high demand was for ‘Mechs during and after the Clan Invasion, this was assumed to be mere counting error – after all, there was hardly any need for any Earthwerks customers to insist on secrecy or discretion during the mad scramble to re-arm against the Clans, or to expand regional military forces as the Third Marik Civil War began in earnest.

I envision this 'Mech having roughly the same weapons layout as a Guillotine.  You know, but a MASC-enhanced Warhammer.  Pew pew.

Type: WHM-7K-C Warhammer
Production: Draconis Combine (Nimakachi Fusion Products, Ltd – Lapida II assembly)
Combat Value: 1674 BV
Total Cost: 7,078,574 C-Bills (including x1.7  tonnage premium)

Heat Sinks: 10(20): 0t
Gyro/Cockpit (Std): 6t
Armor Factor (Std): 13t (208 pips)

Head 3/9
Center Torso 22/30/11
R/L Torso 15/22/8
R/L Arm 11/22
R/L Leg 15/27

Quirks: Rugged (2), Searchlight, Stable, Ubiquitous

1x LB 10-X (6cr, 11t) RA
3x Ammo (LBX) 30 (3cr, 3t) RT
1x CASE (1cr, 0.5t) RT
2x Large Lasers (4cr, 10t) LA
2x Medium Lasers (2cr, 2t) RT/LT
1x MASC (4cr, 4t) LT
1x C3 Slave (1cr, 1t) H

Faced with the daunting task of rebuilding their shattered ‘Mech forces following the Peace of Tukayyid, the DCMS and Ookurashou (Treasury Ministry) placed an emphasis on finding low-cost replacement ‘Mechs that would neverthless be at least moderately effective against Clan forces.  Given the clear superiority of Clan designs, the Dragon had decided to focus on greater numbers of decent designs, as opposed to half as many marginally better ‘Mechs that would still be markedly inferior to the Invader forces.

Even multinational arms producers like Nimakachi Fusion Products, Ltd were caught up in this procurement frenzy, and decided to save shipping costs by producing the bulk of the components for their WHM-7K-C at their main Tematagi facility in the Free Worlds League, but assembling the ‘Mech at their smaller underground facilities on Lapida II, in the Benjamin Military District – well away from the Clan lines, but still close enough to be easily moved to the Smoke Jaguar or Nova Cat fronts.

The 7K-C is expressly designed to match the DCMS specifications, using a standard VOX 280 engine to reduce overall costs, and a modest 10 double heat sinks, all integrated into the engine block, not to be a drain on the Combine’s limited supply of replacement ‘freezers’.  It is not a stand-off fire support ‘Mech like the classic Warhammer, instead redesigned as a mid-range brawler, combining the shotgun firepower of its Imperator Code Red LB 10-X autocannon in one arm – with a very generous three-ton ammunition supply, giving the ‘Mech considerable battlefield endurance.  This is combined with the firepower of a pair of Tronel VI-X Large Lasers in the other arm, and a pair of torso-mounted Victory 23R medium lasers provides additional short to mid-ranged firepower – all provided by Luthien Armor Works, mostly from increased component production on their Wolf Trap line.  To save weight for components, Nimakachi designed a reinforced Crucis-II Delux Endo-Steel chassis, a modification of their lostech Vulcan line, and protected the ‘Mech with a generous thirteen tons of Kallon Royalstar armor.

To ensure that the 64kph speed Warhammer can close with speedier Clan vehicles, Nimakachi installed Diplan Twitcher II Myomer Acceleration Signal Circuitry, also from their partners at Luthien Armor Works.  When activated, it can propel the ‘Mech to sprint speeds of 86 kph, comparable to Clan heavy cavalry designs.  Once close, it can brawl quite effectively with its weapons load-out, which can fire at nearly full capacity every few seconds without overloading the ‘Mechs heat sinking capacity.  The final element is the inclusion of a C3 slave system just behind the cockpit of the WHM-7K-C (thus, the “C” code in the model number), which allows the Warhammer to act as the spotter for lance and company mates, making it a truly effective threat even when out-gunned by more efficient and lighter-weight Clan weapons.

All double-gauss 'Mechs look pretty much identical, but that doesn't stop them from being effective.  And it fits both the Lyran them and the Warhammer silhouette.  The LBX/PPC combo is pretty nasty on the field, and doing a double LBX/PPC combo is just plain nasty -- but the mech does look like it would suffer from slow heat increases and from limited ammunition.

When Olivetti Weaponry fell to Clan Jade Falcon, the Federated Commonwealth turned to other ‘Mech manufacturers, to make up with loss with increased production.  StarCorps Industries, riven by internal politics, was still producing the vintage Succession Wars era WHM-6R, despite ready access to the Helm Memory Core’s lostech, and had lagged behind nearly all its competitors in designing and releasing an upgraded variant of the popular Warhammer heavy ‘Mech.  In 3051, the Federated Commonwealth began putting political and economic pressure on StarCorps to produce both more Warhammers, as well as an upgraded (and combat-effective against the Clans) variant.

StarCorps Loburg, as long-time suppliers to the Lyran Commonwealth, with strong ties to many of the senior “social officers” of the Lyran half of the AFFC, and absolutely understanding their local customer base, decided to focus on upgrading the Warhammer around a pair of BFGs.  Relatively few changes were made to the base Warhammer WHM-6R design, in order to speed up the prototyping and shakedown process, and as a result, the WHM-8S in most cases uses centuries-old, thoroughly time-tested components, such as the O/P 3000 COMSET communications and O/P 1500 ARB targeting systems.  However, although Loburg had the capability to produce Warhammers, they had not done so in centuries, mostly having specialized in Longbow manufacturing.  But under pressure from the Commonwealth, Loburg re-opened long mothballed lines, and constructed an Endosteel zero-gravity production facility in their existing orbital platforms above Hiburg (aka Loburg II) – the system’s heavy gravity mining planet.

The WHM-8S is thus constructed on a Starframe Heavy EndoSteel chassis – the first of their many new designs to utilize the framework.  Ten ‘freezer’ double heat sinks are integrated into lightweight VOX 280 extra-light fusion engine, and thirteen and a half tons of Starslab/12.5 armor (from their long-established Longbow line) protect the ‘Mech and its components.  All weapons systems of the 6R were stripped out of the design, and replaced with BFG ballistic weapons – and company designers ultimately came up with two different designs that proved to be of immense interest to the AFFC.  StarCorps thus produces both variants, with the first examples of the 8S1 and 8S2 being delivered to the Clan front by the end of 3053.

The 8S1 is designed as a long-range sniper, capable of challenging Clan designs at range.  It fits a pair of M-7 Gauss Rifles (the specs come from StarCorps’ own Highlander designer), with five tons of ammunition giving the ‘Mech reasonable combat endurance.  Four Ceres Arms medium lasers (surplus from StarCorps Loburg’s Longbow lines) provide short-ranged firepower, protecting the ‘Mech from speedy opponents that manage to get within the powerful Gauss Rifles’ effective range.

The 8S2 is a mid-ranged blaster, fitted with no less than four heavy weapons – the classic set of Donal PPCs in the arms, matched to a pair of torso-mounted Imperator Code Red LB 10-X autocannons with three tons of ammunition.  Although the 8S2 carries no short-range or back-up weapons, its heavy weapons all share similar ranges and range-bands, and the 8S2 can both punch holes in enemy ‘Mechs, then scour the exposed inner structure with sprays of LB-X cluster rounds, and is much more versatile against both conventional and infantry (including battle-armor units) than the 8S1, which is far more of an anti-’Mech specialist loadout.

Even given the high price tag of these new Warhammers, StarCorps Loburg found an eager (perhaps even desperately so) customer in the Federated Commonwealth, and already has plans to increase production on their 8S lines in order to meet the anticipated medium to long-term demand for their new products.

Aaaand the last of my many Warhammer ideas.  This one feeds my obsession with designs that can effectively kill Elementals.  This 'Mech can *comfortably* wipe out an Elemental point every turn, while still also remaining a real threat when at the mid-range.

Type: WHM-7C Warhammer

R/L Torso 15/22/8
R/L Arm 11/22
R/L Leg 15/30

2x Large Lasers (4cr, 10t) RA/LA
3x SRM 6+Art (9cr, 12t) 2RT/LT
3x Ammo (SRM) 45 (3cr, 3t) LT
2x Medium Lasers (2cr, 2t) RT/LT

Following the Peace of Tukayyid, ComStar began energetic efforts to rebuild the newly unveiled ComGuard.  Due to simple issues of security and logistics, armaments firms with facilities on Terra were heavily prioritized during the procurement process, including StarCorps Industries.  Drawing upon shared corportate development (largely through inter-divisional corporate espionage, of course), StarCorps Terra began a concerted effort to upgrade their ‘Mech lines in order to sell to their newest major Inner Sphere customer.

When the Clan Invasion had begun, StarCorps’s Terra facility was a relatively minor assembly and refit facility, but with the promise of heavy investment from the interstellar communications giant, efforts were made to fast-track expansion of their heavy and assault lines, which included the Warhammer (as well as the Longbow and Highlander)  By the end of the decade, the Terra facility was in full gear, pumping out ‘Mechs for the ComGuard, but it was the lightest-weight of their offerings, the 70t Warhammer, that first began mass production, with the earliest examples of the new WHM-7C entering ComGuard units in the Rasalhague Free Republic by the end of 3053.

With the promise of generous funding, and starting largely from a blank slade, StarCorps Terra took the classic Warhammer design and made several sizable changes.  First, they designed (or, more likely, stole from a rival division in the firm) the lightweight Starframe Heavy EndoSteel chassis that formed the framework of the 7C.  A Ford 350XL engine with a full fourteen integrated double heat sinks – manufactured by Ford Military, Ltd of Terra as a special order for StarCorps, based on Ford’s own Star League era schematics for the nearly extinct Excalibur ‘Mech – was used to power the ‘Mech to speeds of 86kph, comparable to Clan heavy cavalry ‘Mechs.  Although quite expensive, this second change was considered essential in order to prevent ComGuard units from being easily out-maneuvered by the Clans..  By comparison, the thirteen-and-a-half tons of Durallex Heavy ‘Mech armor protecting the 7C, although a significant improvement over the 10 tons of Leviathan Plus carried by the vintage Succession Wars design, seemed quaintly low-tech.

To simply repair and replacement, the weapon systems were all established “old tech” designs, starting with the Magna Mk III Large Lasers that replaced the Donal PPCs.  Manufactured by General Mechanics of Mars, they represented a modest downgrade in firepower, but the addition of two Holly SRM-6 racks (for a total of 18 total SRM tubes), all Artemis IV guided, dramatically increase both the lethality and versatility of the 7C design.  The SRM6 launchers represent the major ‘punch’ of this variant Warhammer, and are also quite devastating when used against infantry or battle-armor with variant warheads (like flechette or inferno).  A pair of torso-mounted Martell Medium Lasers seem like almost an after-thought, but provide addition firepower at closer ranges, although a risk of badly over-heating the 7C if all weapons are fire simultaneously.

Although a relatively new design yet, the Warhmmer 7C’s nastly close-range punch, and its speed and versatility on the battlefield, suggest that it will become a core element of ComGuard and anti-Clan units into the future, and even after just a few dozen examples, interest from other Inner Sphere powers, as well as  mercenary commands and even individual ‘Mechwarriors, has been slowly streaming in to StarCorps Terra’s sales department.

Nice I looked at imitating this as well but thought too similar to the Archer variant I did so stayed away. like it though.

WHM-7R WARHAMMER

Mass: 70 tons
Chassis: StarCorp 100 EndoSteel
Power Plant: Magna 350 XL Fusion
Cruising Speed: 54 kph
Maximum Speed: 86 kph
Jump Jets: None
   Jump Capacity: None
Armor: Durallex Heavy
Armament:
   2 Donal PPCs
   6 Martell Medium Lasers
2 Magna 200p Small Pulse Lasers
Manufacturer: StarCorp Industries
   Primary Factory: various
Communications System: O/P 3000 COMSET
Targeting and Tracking System: O/P 1500 ARB

Overview:
Trying to match the performance of Clan OmniMechs with InnerSphere technology proved to be something of a fool's errand. Star League lostech recovered from the Helm Datacore was either too bulky, too heavy, or had lesser performance standards than the superior counterparts featured by the invaders. Despite of these limitations that could not be overcome there were those who sought to level the playing as much as possible. A rebuilding StarCorp Industries sought to boost the capabilities of their flagship BattleMech, the Warhammer, so it could compete with its Clan successors, the Hellbringer and the Summoner. While the company had been devastated during the Succession Wars and reduced to a shadow of its former self new investment by various InnerSphere powers following the Return of Kerensky made such projects plausible. The signing of the Martial Accords and generous aid from ComStar and the Federated Commonwealth pushed several concepts forward including this capable heavy raider that could challenge Clan opponents in the Occupation Zone.

Capabilities:
Admittedly a pragmatic upgrade the WHM-7R makes hard choices using all possible InnerSphere tech to create a hard-hitting raider. Designers built an ‘energy boat’ whose arsenal was entirely composed of particle cannons or lasers. These weapons generate high levels of waste heat but required no ammunition facilitating long term independent deployments. To improve the BattleMech’s performance the lightweight StarCorp 100 EndoSteel was engineered and mated with the new Magna 350 XL Fusion Engine. This larger power plant enabled this Warhammer to move more than twenty kilometers per hour faster than its predecessors. While bulky and more vulnerable the old VOX 280 it could keep pace with its Clan adversaries. Also more Double Heat Sinks could be mounted on this bigger engine helping to cool the enormous blooms generated by its weaponry. For which the designers choose to stick with the original Donal PPCs because of their better damage to heat balance. Six Martell Medium Lasers now create the entirety of the Warhammer’s secondary armament with two lasers replacing the Holly SRM-6 and another two upgrading the original Magna Small Lasers. Overall, this improves on the potential firepower and range slightly even if it creates a more generic or brighter feel to the Warhammer’s punch. Some Mechwarriors prefer the punch of the Short-Range Missile pack even if the total performance of the hexagonal laser battery has proven to be superior. Finally, twin Magna 200p Small Pulses instead of the Sperry Browning Machine Guns create a final line of defense against infantry and other opponents who manage to close to point blank range. Thanks to all the weight savings built into this new Warhammer three and a half additional tons of Durallex Heavy armor was added bringing this seventy-tonner up to near full protection. Expensive and time consuming to produce the 7R has also proven difficult to work on with a confounding lack of internal space.

Deployment:
Mechwarriors lucky enough to get the new Warhammer have raved about its performance and demand for the 7R remains high. Despite production gearing up at Crofton, Loburg, and Son Hoa many orders for the new model remain unfulfilled. As a result, both St. Ives and Terra have already begun the process of retooling for full scale manufacturing. Thus far all units shipped have gone to the very best Federated Commonwealth and ComStar stationed along the Clan border.

Variants:
The WHM-7R does to come with a sort of semi-modularity as it is able to swap out its primary arm weapons. This has resulted in two variants quickly springing up behind the main version each with its own advantages. The 7X sports twin ER PPCs whose maximum range has been increased along with a far greater heat bloom making it more challenging to manage. The 7P twin Large Pulse Lasers and the same heat profile with a far shorter range and is geared to deal with Elementals.

WHM-7R WARHAMMER

I have almost the same 'Mech  :P

Following the change in their leadership with the accession to Khanship of Bjorn Jorgensson and Aletha Kabrinski, the Merchant Caste of Clan Ghost Bear was tasking with creating an unbroken supply chain in order to make any shortage come to an end.
Part of their plans was an increase in the production in the Kerensky Cluster coupled with more Ships being assigned to bringing the supplies. However, this would take a long time and a more audacious proposal was made: why not upgrade the facilities captured by Clan Ghost Bear in the Inner Sphere? Always cautious, the Bear devised a two-step plan with first a test of the production capabilities of the former Inner Sphere technicians and facilities and then if everything went well, an upgrade to Clan standards.

This is how different short series of BattleMechs were born, chiefly among them the WHM-7(C), a retrofit of the Warhammer to modern Inner Sphere standards that could serve in second-line and solhama units.

We will now review the different BattleMechs created under this program.

[...]
Unwilling to ask too much from the Alshain Weapons factory they had captured, the choice of an Endo-Steel Internal Structure was discarded as was the one of a XL Engine (but more on a cost point of view).
Thanks to systems and weapons produced on the worlds they had captured, the firepower of the captured WHR-6R (and of other variants used in this plan) was improved with 2 Lord's Light 2 ER PPCs produced by Alshain Weapons and the secondary weapons were upgraded to 10 Martell Medium Lasers from Bergan Industries and 2 Victory Throb Small Pulse Lasers from Victory Industries.
To ease the installation, 4 Martell Medium Lasers and the 2 Small Pulse ones were put in the torsos where similar weapons were already present and the remaining 6 Medium Lasers were put into a box looking a lot like the classical SRM-6 found on top of the right torso (running parallel to the shoulder of the ‘Mech and not perpendicular so as to decrease its vulnerability).

The rest of the ‘Mech was not forgotten. 15 Double Heat Sinks (instead of 18 simple ones) improved by 2/3 its cooling capacities allowing it to fire its long ranged weapons or shorter ranged ones without any problems. Its protection was increased thanks to the use of 10 tons of Ferro-Fibrous.
As for the Communication and Targeting/Tracking systems, they were also modernised with locally produced components like those used in the Skulker or with according to our sources, upgrades in the firmware to bring it up-to-date.

Surprisingly, few sabotages were reported. Several explanations might be provided : either the Clans are monitoring every step of the production process or the former Inner Sphere workers don’t have the level of engagement required to perform such acts. This could be either out of fear or because they believe in the propaganda of Clan Ghost Bear.

Further investigations on this topic have to be made but another example will explain even more why it must be done. Warrior Ragnar fighting for the Bears in his Blackmane, a Warhammer WHM-7(C), seems to be a bondsmen taken during the second conquest of Thule by Clan Ghost Bear, probably from the 1st Hussars. Even if a Ragnar was found on their roll, he was a blond ‘MechWarrior piloting Light ‘Mechs and always on the verge of going berserk, whereas this one is in a heavy ‘Mech and from what can be seen he has a black mane. His preferred fighting tactic is to fight from afar before finishing its opponent with a quick display of concentrated short ranged firepower. The doubt comes from what seems to be the personal heraldry of this ‘MechWarrior that looks like a worn-out logo of the 1st Hussars.
This ‘MechWarrior repulsed alone a raid by a Lance of the 8th Alshain Avengers that raided Alshain Weapons through the use of its improved firepower and cooling capacities letting the lighter unit no chance while taking them down one by one.

The exact number of Warhammer having been retrofitted is unknown but according to the latest available intel, almost every second line units has at least one of these retrofits. If Alshain Weapons is ever to be used for producing Inner Sphere designs, this Heavy ‘Mech will probably be at the forefront of the Ghost Bear new factory.
