Optimizing the Wolverine
« on: November 15, 2020, 10:22:29 PM »

WOLVERINES!! Sorry, how can I not quote the epic 1980s commie killin epic Red Dawn for our thirty first contest. No, it’s not quite Wolverine from X-men either as this BattleMech has always been an odd duck than complete bad ass to me. Have no fear as my designers are here to save the day with a little help from the Mech of the Week Article and BattleTeckWiki. Looking forward to seeing what you guys can come up with for the Wolverine for the Salient Horizon setting!

Mech of the Week: WVR-** Wolverine

Wolverine - BattleTechWiki
https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Wolverine_(BattleMech)

Design Criteria
Design: Wolverine Medium BattleMech
Era: 3052, just following the Truce of Tukayyid
Tech: InnerSphere Level 2
Mass: 55 tons

Tech Base
The tech base for this enterprise will be InnerSphere Level 2, also known as Star League lostech, circa 3053. Remember some Level 1 standards which Bradshaw and myself think still have value like Large Lasers and PPCs which feature the same damage factor as their higher tech brethren with less range and perhaps most significantly less heat. Here is a list for your design reference. Let me know if there is anything I missed!

Star League LosTech
Anti-Missile System
Arrow IV Artillery Missile System
Extended Range Large Laser (ER Large Laser)
Extended Range Particle Projection Cannon (ER PPC)
Gauss Rifle
Ultra Autocannon/5
LB 10-X Autocannon
One-Shot Missile Packs
Pulse Lasers (Small, Medium, & Large)
Streak SRM-2
Swarm LRMs
Thunder LRMs
Artemis IV FCS
Beagle Active Probe
Guardian ECM Suite
Myomer Accelerator Signal Circuitry (MASC)
Narc Missile Beacon
TAG
Cellular Ammunition Storage Equipment (CASE)
Double Heat Sinks
Endo Steel Internal Structure
Ferro-Fibrous Armor
Extra Light (XL) Engine

InnerSphere Low Tech
Blazer Cannon (or Binary Laser)
Recon Camera
Remote Sensor Dispenser

New Innovations
Triple Strength Myomer
Hatchet
C3 Computer

Design Traits of this Setting
Both the Federated Commonwealth and ComStar seem to have gone in the other direction with LRM batteries preferring larger LRM-15s and 20s linked to Artemis IV FCS to enhance accuracy. Facing the technologically superior Clan invaders have caused them to spend vast sums of resources on the finest technology available usually translating into high priced BattleMechs that few other factions can afford.
This is somewhat true for the Draconis Combine which has lost a significant portion of their industrial capacity to the Clans. This has been forced Kurita designers to innovate in new and different ways regardless of traditional warrior ethos which pervades the realm. Many Draconis optimizations have included the C3 System which is accelerated from the canon setting which saw their deployment lag.
The Free Worlds League in particular have embraced massed LRM-5s over the larger batteries to provide closer mass equivalents to Clan LRMs. Thanks to a corresponding increase in NARC units these ‘fire teams’ have become quite effective in the Marik Civil War. Also, the Blazer has made an appearance in the shattered FWLM searching for an advantage over their former brethren.
The Capellan Confederation typically fields cost effective designs at this time thanks to their resource strapped situation. While justifications for high end increases can be made like the Outreach Conference, Wrath of Blake technical aid, spoils of war from Isis forces, and good old Capellan espionage these should be minimized. My advice would be Periphery plus for these designs as the Confederation is under strain supporting Isis right now as it is. Growing stealth tech reflected in the Raven would be appropriate in many cases as sophisticated electronic lostech devices like the Guardian ECM Suite would be a priority for their recon designs. There is also a fire support role which is a hallmark of Liao tactical doctrine. The discovery of Thunder LRMs to deploy minefields and use of Arrow IV Artillery on the Catapult are themes which could be amplified here.
Regional factions like the Draconis March and the Periphery have seen the introduction of some ‘simple’ lostech items like Double Heat Sinks, Ferro-Fibrous, Streak SRM-2s, and Pulse Lasers. Extra-Light (XL) Engines remain too expensive and have drawbacks which make their deployment unlikely here. Advanced orbital facilities needed for EndoSteel manufacturing also remain out of reach at this point. They are not beyond using PPCs and Large Lasers either which they view as more efficient than their ER successors.

Please do your research (think Objective Raids) for available components as this will be another factor in rapid production. I love fluff and your winning designs will be featured in my BattleTech Salient Horizon alternate setting. I'd like to go beyond the refits bought to you by Technical Readout 3050 and delve into extensive redesigns of your BattleTech favorites. Sharpen up your favorite war machines perhaps drawing on past or current variants while remembering the spirit or role of these Mechs. Don't forget to justify the expense of your project and multiple winners are possible. Figure that all entries have to be completed and posted on these forums by Friday November 27th 2020 by 11:59 PM which should give you all a full two weeks for this contest, good luck!!

This design is not meant for entry into the contest but rather to provide background for the WVR-7T.

The Wolverine WVR-6T is one of the least known variants of the Wolverine.  Following the Reunification War, the Star League imposed numerous restrictions on the Periphery states.  In the Taurian Concordat, they forbade the production of the Concordat's Toro battlemech.  Instead the production lines of Taurus WarWorks were retooled to produce the Wolverine.  Over the next 150 years, the Wolverine would received a number of modifications and improvements, ultimately resulting in the WVR-6T model in 2738.  The WVR-6T would continue in production at Taurus Territorial Industries [Ed Note: Taurus Territorial Industries was formed in 2787 at the direction of the Concordat government through the merger of Taurus WarWorks, Concordat Territorial Manufacturing and Hyades Heavy Industries] until 2812, when production halted following the destruction of the Hyades Orbital Foundry, which produced the Endo-Steel chassis, in an industrial accident.

The Taurian Wolverine incorporated a number of advanced technologies. This was due to the Concordat having captured and reverse engineered a number of these systems during the Reunification War.  The Concordat was originally allowed to continue production of these advanced technologies to serve as a source of supply for the SLDF occupation forces.  As the years went on, the Concordat began to incorporate these items into the mechs produced for the TDF.  In a surprising move, the SLDF did not object. It is believed that the the SLDF felt even with these advanced weapons the TDF was no match for them.

The Taurian Wolverine was designed to meet the needs of the TDF for a recon mech with an anti-infantry capability. The chassis of the Wolverine has been upgraded to an Endo Steel Frame. Having reverse engineered the technology during the Reunification War, the Concordat, who had a large number of orbital facilities to support their large navy, established the Hyades Orbital Foundry over Taurus to produce Endo-Steel during the final years of the war.  Despite some concerns from the SLDF, the facility remained in service and provided replacement parts to the local SLDF forces.  Finally in the 2700s, the factory was allowed to provide Endo-Steel Chassis to local manufacturers for the TDF.  The Wolverine was one of the first mech's upgraded with the lighter materials.

The weight savings allowed the replacement of the older Whirlwind Autocannon with an Armstrong Armaments Class 5 Ultra Autocannon. Produced at their Sterope plant, the new weapon effectively doubled performance of the older weapon, although their was an increased risk of the weapon jamming. To provided the same battlefield endurance as the original Wolverine, the -6T carries 2 tons of autocannon ammo. With so mach ammo in the mech, the design team added a CASE to the right torso, protecting the mechwarrior from any ammo explosions.

The secondary weaponry on the -7T is largely similar to the -6T.  The 6 tube SRM rack has been downgraded to a 4 tube launcher, while the medium laser in the head has been retained.  The only addition to the weapon systems is a Lushann Small Pulse laser from Lushann Industrials Limited in the Outworlds Alliance.  This weapon provides the Wolverine with an anti-infantry capability that the TDF felt the mech was lacking.

In addition to upgrades to the weapons, the Wolverine features a number of changes to its cooling, armor and electronics.   The cooling system had been upgraded with double strength models.  While heat has never been much of an issue for the Wolverine, the new heatsinks ensure the mech will never overheat in combat.  The armor has been upgraded with advance Ferro-Fibrous armor, again a technology that was reverse engineered from the SLDF during the Reunification War.  Featuring 10 tons of armor plating, the Taurian Wolverine features almost 20% more protection then the standard -6R model. Most of this armor has been added to the legs and torso of the mech.  The final improvement is the addition of a Beagle Active Probe.   As with most of the other advanced technology on the Wolverine, this had also been reverse engineered during the Reunification War.  The capabilities of the Active Probe allow the Wolverine to better spot enemy units, greatly improving its performance as a scout.

The Wolverine -7T was a common mech in the TDF and could be found in almost every scout lance, serving along side Wasps, Locusts, Stingers and Commandos. Production of the mech continued until 2812 when the Hyades Orbital Foundry was was destroyed in an industrial accident.  Efforts to rebuild the foundry were abandoned when the Concordat become involved in the foolish Taurian-Canopian War in 2813. The Wolverine remained in service with the TDF however many were soon downgraded to the WVR-6R model as advanced weapons and armor were replaced with simpler models.

The Wolverine WVR-7T is a something of a surprise, having started to appear in recon lances of the TDF.  First spotted in 3048, it was believed that the mech was a refit of existing Taurian Wolverines.  As more of these mechs began to appear in the TDF, it was speculated that the Concordat had established a new production line for the Wolverine.  The truth turned out to be in between.  For many years it was rumored that the Concordat had located a valuable SLDF storehouse on Celeano.  While this rumor has been proven true, what is less well known is that the Concordat also came across what has been called the Omega Cache on New Ganymede.  A desert world that is valued for its extensive radioactive ore deposits.  Just prior to the Uprisings, the planet became home of a secret cache of materials from Taurus WarWorks.  Hidden in an abandoned mine, this cache includes number of battlemechs, as well as components and technical data.  Figuring that the Concordat's industrial capabilities would be a prime target for the SLDF, this cache was expected to help the Concordat rebuild in the wake of the uprisings. Unfortunately the existence of the cache was highly secret and it appears that the people responsible for creating it were killed during the Uprisings.  The cache was then lost until the mid 3040s when prospectors, investigating the old mine, located the equipment.

Among the cache were over 100 Endo-Steel chassis for the Wolverine WVR-6T.  Lacking a number of the other advanced technologies needed produce the -6T, Protector Calderon ordered the development of a new version of the Wolverine using available technologies.  The Armstrong Ultra class autcannon was replaced with the Sunglow Type 2 Large Laser. While it does not have the range of the Autocannon, the laser does not have a minimum range and inflicts higher damage.  The laser also remove the ammo dependance for the main gun, but does so at the cost of higher heat output.  This was considered a minor issue as the Wolverine tends to run cool.  To ensure that heat does not become an issue, the WVR-7T retains the double heatsinks of it's predecessor while adding an additional sink to compensate for the addition of the laser.

Lacking the ability to produce the Small Pulse Laser and the Beagle Active Probe of the -6T the designers changed the secondary weapons array.  The Shannon Fore launcher has been upgraded to a Shannon Six-Shooter model, providing 2 extra tubes.  Mounted along side the Shannon Six-Shooter are a pair of experimental Pinard Reaper SRM Streak Racks. [Ed Note: The Pinard Streaks are only just starting to enter trials, the first models of the WVR-7T carries a second Shannon Six-Shooter in their place] While some have questioned the decision to mount 2 different types of SRM launchers it appears that the Streak racks are intended for use against mechs and tanks, while the Shannon Six-Shooter can carry a variety of specialty munitions such as Inferno rounds.

The head mounted Martell Medium Laser is supplement by a second laser in the Wolverine's left arm.  Mounted under the medium laser is a SperryBrowning Machine Gun, filling the anti-infantry role formerly handled by the Small Pulse Laser.  Fortunately for a mech that carries a significant amount of ammunition the mech is equipped with a CASE system.  The CASE system was installed in the chassis when they were originally constructed, to date the TDF has not managed to recover this technology. This has caused some issues for the Taurian engineers, as the CASE system was mounted in the right side of the torso, near the Autocannon.  As the WVR-7T mounts all of it ammo based weapons on the left side this has resulted in complicated feed systems.  These feed systems are potentially prone to jamming making this a concern for mechwarriors assigned to the mech.

The only other upgrade to the Wolverine is a slight improvement to the mech's armor.  The -7T retains the Ferro-Fibrous armor of the -6T and manages to add an additional half ton of plating.

The new Wolverine has proven very popular with the mechwarriors of the Taurian Concordat.  TTI has been turning out new mechs at a rate of 10-15 per year.  It remains to be seen if the Concordat's effort to build a Endo-Steel foundry will be successful, allowing the design to remain in production or if production will halt when all of the Omega Cache chassis have been used.   Assuming that the chassis can be produced, TTI is already drawing up plans for a more advanced Wolverine.  This model would upgrade the Sunglow Type 2 Laser to an extended range model. replace the Machine Gun and its troublesome feed with a small pulse laser, downgrade the Shannon Six-Shooter to a Shannon Fore Rack and add a Beagle Active Probe.

Re: Optimizing the Wolverine
« Reply #3 on: November 15, 2020, 10:39:36 PM »

The WVR-8K was developed by the Victory Industries in response to a DCMS request for an anti-air capable battlemech.  Lacking any production lines for the Rifleman, the DCMS was forced to use the Jagermech, which was produced by Independence Weaponry on Quentin.  Never a popular mech, and made even less so with its close association with the Federated Suns, the Jagermech was seen as a less then desirable mech.  It did not help that the mech was very lightly armored and had what was considered a weak weapons array.  Even after being upgraded with advanced technologies the Jagermech was considered ineffective.

Issusing a call for a new anti-air battlemech, Independence introduced a new version of the Jagermech.  meanwhile Victory Industries on Marduk also entered a design into the contest.  The Victory entry was based on the Wolverine chassis.  In the waning days of the 3rd Succession War, before the technological revival of the 3030s, Frankenstein mechs began to become common.  One of the more famous such mechs was the Wolfman. Piloted by Valdis Ullman of the Legion of Vega, the Wolfman had been hastily created on Bergman's Planet, using the legs and lower torso of Ullman's Wolverine mated to the upper torso and arms of a damaged Rifleman.  While not the most effective mech in existence, the newly named Wolfman performed well and served in the DCMS for many years. The engineers at Victory, inspired by the Wolfman set about to turn the Wolverine into an Anti-Air defense unit.

While the WVR-8K would retain the Nissan 275 XL engine that was used in the -7K model, the chassis was redesigned to incorporate Rifleman style arms for the mech's main guns. Since they were going to have to make extensive changes to the chassis, the designers decided to switch to an endo steel frame, freeing up mass for other changes.  All of the -7Ks weapons were removed and replaced with a pair of Imperator Code Red LB-10X Autocannons, one in each arm.  These weapons are considered the best anti-aircraft weapons in existence, their cluster rounds have proven high effective against fast moving aerospace fighters.  Paired with each autocannon is a Victory 23R medium laser.

The weight of the large auto cannons necessitated the removal of all of the mechs other weaponry. The designers also removed 3 heatsinks and switched to standard models.  With the low heat generated by the auto cannons this has not been an issue during field trials.  Other changes include the removal of the jump jet system and a slight reduction in the armor protection compared to the WVR-7K.

The new Wolverine performed exceptionally during field trials and was accepted for service over the new Jagermech from Independence Weaponry.  Given it's visual similarity to Ullman's mechs, the Wolverine has acquired the name the Wolfman.

There is only 1 variant of the Wolfman currently in existence, the WVR-9K.  During the development of the mech, the design team experiment with a model mounting a pair of Imperator Ultra AC/5 Autocannons in place of the Code Red models.  The weight savings from these smaller guns allowed the designers to protect the ammo bins with a CASE system.  They were also able to retain the Wolverine's Jump Jets and add an additional half ton of armor.  However during testing this model was not as effective against aerospace fighters and was prone to jamming issues with the Autocannons.  While the test pilots were impressed with the mech's mobility, that did not offset the other issues.  There has been a suggestion that should there be a LB-X autocannon in the class 5 rating it might make this variant more viable.

I was more partial to the Griffin or Shadow Hawk myself in the 55 ton weight class.

Griffin while cool looking had all weaponry on one side an Shadow Hawk was to jack of all trades and its weird 5/8/3 movement was odd. Favorite Canon variant of Wolverine was Marik one

I read up on the Mech of the Week Article which really does nice job of highlighting the Wolverine as an overlooked 55-ton classic especially when compared to the Griffin or the Shadow Hawk. I must confess that those more popular Mechs are my favorites but the Wolverine has it uses at close range. I’m thinking of some variants myself now and thinking of some modifications I can make to this tight quarter slugger.

Perhaps my impression of the Wolverine is ‘tainted’ by our use of it which I think Bradshaw will remember. Critter's embarrassing MASC failure that left his lance helpless versus those helicopters deployed infantry really colors my opinion. I only briefly mention it in the June 3057 section of Robert Takiro’s Personal Logs under this link.

Well I hope you can do better than that incident from the past. Look forward to seeing some more interesting designs!

A tale of Seven Kingdoms or the new dawn of the Wolverine

The Clan Invasion produced many surprises and among them was the revival (an aptly name if one thinks of the codename of the Clan Invasion) of technologies and production of fully upgraded ‘Mechs all around the Inner Sphere.
Among them the classical trio of 55 tons occupies a specific place and among them, the Wolverine is the classical “good boy” able to do its job but without attracting too much attention like Crayson Carlyle’s ride or the protectors of the Trone Room on Tharkad. That is until now.
Thanks mostly to Kallon Industries this is likely to change as up to 9 new variants are being produced in the Inner Sphere for the different States with 2 for the Draconis Combine, 2 for the Federated Commonwealth, 1 for ComStar, 1 for the Free Worlds League, 1 for the Magistracy, 2 for the Free Rasalhague Republic, without forgetting the mercenary market and the Periphery or the Capellan Confederation.
Obviously with 9 “new” designs being made available (of which 7 come from Kallon Industries), no one can expect really new things and a lot of them are “simple” upgrades of the WVR-7 generation but even if most companies and militaries are saying this is just marketing but the truth is that every army or unit in the Inner Sphere (and even beyond) is trying to get its hands on one of these new designs.

The 7K1 and 7K2 are simple upgrades of the WVR-7K using Ferro-Fibrous Armour, 13 Double Heat Sinks and a C3 Slave to both improve their protection and to tie them within the C3 Networks that are slowly becoming the norm in the DCMS.
The 7K1 improves on the 7K firepower by keeping the twin 2 SRM-6 (each with 1 ton of ammo shielded in a CASE) and using a PPC (leftovers from the upgrade of the Panther) with 3 Medium Lasers.
The 7K2 was designed with long lasting fights, exchanging the weaponry of the 7K for an ER PPC, 4 Streak SRM-2 (providing the overall same firepower as the twin SRM-6 but ensuring that each missile will hit) and a Guardian ECM to add to its flexibility.

The 7D1 and 7D2 are typical of the love of the Federated Suns for autocannons, bringing a LB-10X with 2 tons of ammo (to give it the capability to select its ammunition) on the Wolverine.
The 7D1 is a “simple” field upgrade of the WVR-7D with only Single Heat Sinks but thanks to the low heat generated by the autocannon, its Medium Laser and its twin Streak SRM-2 (the question there is who got the idea first the Federated Commonwealth or the Draconis Combine?) it can still jump and fire without generating too much heat.
The 7D2 is a more demanding upgrade, replacing the 11 Single Heat Sinks by 10 Double ones. The extra ton allows for the inclusion of a second Medium Laser. It is to be noted that like in the 7D1, the Streak SRM-2 comes from Coventry, in what is likely to be a political move for the Federated Commonwealth (since House Steiner always stayed loyal to its Griffin).

The 7E is a “radical” upgrade of the 7D designed for ComStar. With a Gauss Rifle and an Anti-Missile System combined with the extra speed provided by the MASC, it can select its battle and ends them quickly, provided the gunnery skill of its pilot is up to the task. This approach is something new for a military that focused up-to-now more on the team cooperation. Is it a new approach designed to trap the Clans to their own games? Or is it a design meant to hunt alone acting as pickets in front of the other units? For now, no one knows how the ComGuards will use it.

The 7M1 is one of the most interesting upgrades, not by how much it changed but more by what he tries to do: fitting in the new doctrines in use in the Free Worlds League Military with the inclusion of a Narc Launcher to tag its opponents for the other members of the Wolverine unit. To make up for this new mission, some extra protection was added with the use of Ferro-Fibrous armour and 3 Medium Lasers increase its firepower should anyone come too close (something the MASC should avoid).

The 7F and the 7F1 are “cheap” designs meant to be used by the Free Rasalhague Republic and thus packing main guns that are locally produced. Packing Standard Engines, they will also be more easily repaired.
The 7F is a downgraded version of the 7M2 with 1 LB-10X, 1 SRM-6 and 1 Medium Laser. It uses the same recipe as the 7H of the SLDF with Endo-Steel and Ferro-Fibrous armour making up for the lack of XL Engine (it is rumoured that Kallon Industries on Nanking just found the blueprints of this design of old, which would explain its three newest variants).
The 7F1 is more akin to the 6K of old with a PPC, 1 SRM-6 and 2 Medium Lasers. To give it some protection against the weapons used by the Clans, a Medium Pulse Laser and a Guardian ECM were also put on this variant together with its 10 tons of Ferro-Fibrous Armour.

The last variant, the 7MAF, is also a cheap design designed to bring as much firepower as possible as quickly as possible on the battlefield while using only weapons produced by the Magistracy. An AC/10 backed up by a One-Shot SRM-6 does the job. Once its ammo bins are emptied, this design only retains a single Medium Laser to help it get out of the fight.

These last 3 variants have met a large success with poor mercenary units, stables on Solaris VII and Periphery units while the others have been sent to almost every front-line units of the FCAF, the DCMS, the FWLM, the KungsArmé and of the ComGuards.

Only the future will tell us who will be the next Hauptmann Lisa Morgan but what remains sure is that in this new area awaiting us, the Wolverine will be there ready to do its job like it did since the first Wolverine rolled out of the factory.

Re: Optimizing the Wolverine
« Reply #12 on: November 22, 2020, 05:30:57 PM »

Kallon Industries designed the Wolverine 9D in response to an AFFC request for the ultimate reconnaissance mech.  The AFFC set a high bar for the new mech. It needed to be able maintain speeds in excess of 90 KPH, match the recon capabilities of the famed Ostscout, while still having enough firepower to pose a threat to enemy units.  The mech was also required to be able to operate away from its base for extended periods of time and have enough armor to survive a direct hit by a Gauss Rifle to any location.  Most manufacturers looked at these specs and chose not to submit a design, considering the requirements unreasonable.  Of the few who did enter only 1 managed to meet or exceed all of the AFFC requirements: Kallon Industries.

When the Kallon team began working on the new mech for the AFFC, the immediately settled on the Wolverine.  A proven design, the Wolverine already had a strong reputation as an effective heavy scout.  After looking at the requirements issued by the AFFC, it was determined that they could be meet, but only by disregarding cost.  The new Wolverine would be packed with every possible bit of advanced technology in an effort to meet the requirements.  This started with a completely new chassis built using Endo-Steel.  While bulkier then standard mech chassis, it freed up precious tonnage for other improvements.  The designers also replaced the Nissan 275XL engine with an new Edasich Motors 330XL.  This engine, a downrated version of the Edasich 340XL that was developed for the new Battlemaster, provides the mech with a top speed of over 90 kph.  In an effort to provide an additional burst of speed, the mech retains the MASC system that has been fitted to the WVR-7D.  This allows the mech to make dashes at speeds in excess of 120 kph.  For mobility in difficult terrain, the mech has 6 Northrup 12000 jump jets, allowing it to jump up to 180 meters in a single leap.

The weapons of the Wolverine were redesigned to provide heavy firepower while removing the ammo dependance that tied to the WVR-7D to its supply lines.  The ammo hungry Nova-5 Autocannon was replaced with a BlazeFire Sweetshot laser.  Providing nearly the same range, with a higher damage output, the laser did not need ammo, allowing the mech to operate away from its base for extended periods.  The Harpoon-6 launcher was replaced with a pair of Federated SuperStreak racks. While this reduced the number of tubes by 2, the streak racks are more ammo efficient, helping to ensure the Wolverine does not run out of rounds.  The head mounted laser reverted to standard laser from the pulse laser found on the -7D. The reason for this change was to free up tonnage for a Flamer mounted on the mech's left arm.  This provided the Wolverine with a weapon that could be used in the dual incendiary and anti-infantry roles.  In a weight saving measure the -9D removes 3 of the heatsinks found on the -7D variant.  But as the BlazeFire Sweetshot generates significantly more heat then the Nova-5 Autocannon, the -9 carries double heatsinks.

As impressive as the changes were to the mech's speed and mobility, the electronics have been upgraded to some of the most advanced equipment in the Inner Sphere.  The decline in technology during the Succession Wars forced Kallon to replace the famed Tek BattleCom with lesser systems.  The recovery of the Helm memory core has allowed the Tek BattleCom to resume production.  Mated to a Guardian ECM module, the Wolverine is able to maintain communications even in the worst conditions, while remaining hidden from enemy units.  To ensure the Wolverine can make the best use of its weapons array, the basic Sync Tracker targeting system has been replaced with the Tek Tru-Trak, one of the most accurate targeting systems ever developed.  The Tru-Trak is connected to a Beagle Active Probe, allowing the Wolverine to locate hidden enemy units.  Lastly the Wolverine carries a TAG system allowing it to call in accurate long range fire on any targets that it locates.

All of these bulky advanced systems prevented the use of the Kallon Unity Weave Ferro-Fibrous Armor found on the -7D.  Instead the -9d mounts 11 tons of Kallon Royalstar armor providing nearly identical protection.

During the trials, the AFFC was impressed with the performance of the WVR-9D and its ability to meet all of their specifications.  After getting over the sticker shock of the price of the new mech, they ordered it into production for their recon units.

Wait until I have access to more advanced technology  8)

Or more space cause you ran out on the post word limit it appears and got cut off!

Otherwise nice job Ice, just remember to post your remaining Wolverines in their entirety. ;)

Another excellent Irose entry as well which reminds me of a lighter Exterminator with Short Range Missiles instead of Longs.
