The exact circumstances are unknown but the message is clear and still applies today. States should only think about their own long-term interests and focus on them.
This is exactly what the Federated Commonwealth did after managing to slow down the Clans and after the Truce of Tukayyid.
The long-term interest of the Federated Commonwealth was to go against the Clans and to do they needed to strengthen their former enemies like the Draconis Combine or some more neutral States like the Free Rasalhague Republic.

A proof Mr. Anderson? You all know about the Zeus, one of the iconic Lyran and now Federated Commonwealth Assault ‘Mech. But do you know about the ZEU-6H, with the H standing for Húskarl, a household bodyguard from old ? You don’t?

Yes, this design was made in only a few weeks by Defiance Industries following a request by the government to help the KungsArmé. How did they do it? By mixing the 6Y and the 6A into an unique product, the 6Y and by using only Defiance Industries or former subsidiary TharHes Industries weapons and systems to cut costs and time.
Now you are asking why select the Zeus? Because the KungsArmé used it a lot of them and because Defiance Industries knew they could send their upgrade kits along with their own technicians quite easily, making this a very profitable business and gibing them first access to information to build new variants of the Zeus less experimental and using as much advanced technology as possible.

I don’t care what you say about this ‘Mech, trooper, this is Thrúd, my ‘Mech and you will show the respect it deserves as it went through hell and back fighting against the Clans on Memmingen, on Satalice and on Skadia.
No one can say that it isn’t the same ‘Mech. We both suffered within our bones and bodies but we are still there, rebuild to be better, stronger and still eager to hunt the Wolves and may them pay for everything.
If the Devil were to offer me a bargain to give me my revenge, I would accept it and the Federated Commonwealth isn’t the real Devil. So obviously I volunteered for an upgrade of my good old Zeus to the new standards.
Let’s face it, it is more complicated for you to maintain but it is such a beauty with its improved Ferro-Fibrous Armour and its advanced TSM myomer system, allowing me to move more quickly and to do more damage at close ranges, where it matters.
And the firepower? A beauty. One ER Large Laser gives me the needed long-range punch and when it gets nasty and personal, 3 SRM-4 are in the right fist ready to punch a hole and fire in it. Don’t laugh, I did it more than once. Those missiles are just the top of the iceberg since I got one Binary Laser and 2 Medium Lasers (and for the coward Toads that will try to get me, there is still one in the rear) to add to this mix.
The 12 Double Heat Sinks and these different weapons give me a lot of option to fire up the TSM and keep it active when I need it.
So now before I kick your sorry ***, just do your job and take care of my ‘Mech.
