PB-2A Pit Bull Primitve mech
« on: September 16, 2016, 01:09:11 AM »

the Pit Bull was an early attempt by the Magistracy of Canopus to develop a home brew heavy Battlemech.  the design was ultimately cut short by the creation of both the Quasit Milita Mech as well as the Dervish and Thunderbolt, both of which fulfilled the tactical niches needed to supplement the Wasp they had already been producing

the Pitt Bull is equipped first and formost with an 88mm Autocannon as it's primary hitting power, matching the Terran Hegemony's Orion.  twin linked medium lasers in one arm and a supplementary SRM 4 pack provide seocndary armament for closer in work, particularly against armor that at the time could barely withstand such firepower.  the real secret to the Pit Bull's success however was the 18 and a half tons of armor, permitting the mech to take a beating almost unparalleled by any periphery produced, and many house produced Battlemechs.  save for the Terran Hegemony, it would be the Magistracy of Canopus that would be known for it's... endurance.

Deployment  The Development and rapid sale of the Thunderbolt cut the Pit Bulls destiny short.  for all intents and purposes the Thunderbolt could do everything the Pit Bull could do better, and was readily purchasable.  as it may, about a battalion of the machines made it to production, most being sent cast off to the male bodygaurds of minor Cappelan Noblewomen.

They didn't keep it or make an upgraded version (you know, just to keep their independence)?

that would be something a Taurian would do, but this is the Magistracy.

Even the Taurians didn't revive designs like the Toro once they had the opportunity.

That's more an artifact of introducing a design for the pre-RW era and then trying to avoid retconning why we have not seen it before.  Given typical Taurian mentality (especially how it has been presented in recent years) there is no doubt that the Taurians would have put the Toro back into production just to say I told you so to the dead remains of the Star League.

I'd agree with that.

I seem to recall Primitive Toros being built in a post Jihad objectives product.
